Congratulations to Miranda Eyb in Year 7 who was awarded ‘Champion Parader’ at the Royal Easter Show in Sydney earlier this week. The award is testament to Miranda’s skill and expertise in the cattle arena.

We are looking forward to hearing the success of the Orange High School Show Team at the Bathurst Show early next term. Cattle parading and showing is a relatively new and growing initiative at Orange High. We are really excited by the possibilities of the hard working and dedicated cattle team.

Last week it was wonderful to watch our students in the Premier’s Sporting Challenge lead a sports development day for students in our partner primary schools. Based on the organisation and interpersonal skills displayed by our students, I am very happy to predict that a number of our students will make excellent teachers of the future. Well done to our students who ran fantastic ‘coaching camps’ and skill development exercises in a wide range of sports from soccer through catching and athletics.

Thank you also to our Indigenous parents and students who joined in our first ‘Bush Tucker Night’ last Friday. The event was a terrific opportunity to meet together in a casual atmosphere. The first edition of the ‘The Deadly Times’ was published featuring aspects of our Indigenous program at Orange High School

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for a highly productive and successful Term 1 at Orange High School. In particular this term has been an amazing time of student achievement. A quick flick back through the term’s newsletter stories reveal student and school successes at incredibly high levels. I continue to be very proud of all students in our school and I would like to acknowledge at the end of a busy term the efforts of all students right across the school who strive and learn every day in classrooms across our school. These students may never have their names up in lights but they are cooperative, motivated and talented young people with integrity who will make enormous contributions in their own special way to society in the future. Enjoy a safe and restful break and we look forward to seeing all students return on Tuesday 21 April.

SUPPORT UNIT REPORT On Monday the 30th March students from the Support unit visited the

Australian War Memorial to re-inforce the work they have been doing on the

ANZAC landing at Gallipoli on 25th April, 1915.

We had a private tour around the World War 1 exhibition and were able to

see the uniforms, weapons and ration kits of soldiers who fought at Gallipoli.

All students thoroughly enjoyed their day and were able to have a hands on

experience of many aspects of fighting in World War 1.

I would like to thank the staff at the War Memorial for their expertise and

an informative tour.

Below are some of our students thoughts on their excursion:

Oregan - Year 10 I thought that the World War II bomber simulator was very realistic. It showed what it felt like to be in a bomber carrying out an attack on the enemy.

Hunter - Year 10 On our trip to the Australian War Memorial, I didn’t realise how many Australians had died until I saw their names on the Roll of Honour Wall.

Hayden - Year 7 My favourite part of the Australian War Memorial were the guns, tanks and planes.

Jarlen - Year 9 At the Australian War Memorial, I liked the aeroplane simulator. It was great to feel what it was like to be on a bombing mission and see the bombs dropping. We saw a painting of the landing at Gallipoli.

The painting showed the hill that was called “The Sphinx”. It was named after the pyramid in Egypt where the Australians trained before battle.

20 girls from year 7-10 had the opportunity to attend a workshop up at PCYC on Tuesday. The workshop

was aimed at engaging girls in sport and encouraging them to achieve their potential. The girls met high

profile female athletes and participated in a range of sporting development activities. The athletes

talked about their sporting experiences and gave us an insight into their particular training schedules and

some difficulties they had to overcome throughout their careers.

Athletes in included : Kaitlyn Bryce – Netball

Jade Warrender – Hockey

Inge Visser – Rugby Union

Lisa Sthalekar – Cricket

Libby Saddler – AFL

FRACKMAN A film like no other Frackman is like no other Australian film. It aims to spark a broad national conversation about the risks of our headlong rush into massive coal seam gas development. Five years in the making, it not only entertains and engages, it also give audiences the tools to get involved in what is becoming the largest social movement our nation has seen in decades. This is the new Politics, bringing together old and young, city and country, conservative and progressive in a

shared effort to prevent an environmental catastrophe. Can we imagine any other issue that would bring together the likes of Alan Jones and Bob Brown? See it and find out why.

The Aussie hero you’ve never heard of extracted from -story by Anthony Sharwood There’s a movie currently taking Australian cinemas by storm, and you’ve probably never even heard of it. That’s because it’s not playing at a giant megaplex near you, but at art house cinemas

here and there and at halls and theatres in towns around the country – where locals are going absolutely nuts for it. The reason they’re going nuts? It’s about them, that’s why. It’s about ordinary Aussies protecting what belongs to them against greedy companies trying to take it all away.
