THIS UNIT we will: 18 February – 10 March 2011 Read/view/listen to some texts and discuss the topics: (i) Learning English – why, what for, how; (ii) Languages and Cultures Build up vocabulary and consolidate grammar points: Focus: Modal Verbs, Word formation, Tense revision Give a short presentation about how to be a good language learner and/or Language and Culture Write a magazine article and/or a commentary As usual you will also write different Learning Journal (LJ) entries that will show understanding of the topics and will assess work done. Which are the most important ones?Why is English spoken by so many people all over the world?Are there other Englishes besides British and American varieties?What is culture? How does it connect to history, religion, language, food, lifestyle…?
