Landulph School Newsletter
Together in Adventure and Discovery 6th November 2020
I hope that you all managed to have a good half term break and took the opportunity for some enjoyable family time and found plenty of fun things to do. The weather wasn’t ideal, but I’m sure that you all enjoyed the rest and break from routine.
Now we have entered a second period of national lockdown, it continues to be really important that we all have a responsibility to be mindful of the Government’s wider COVID-19 advice in helping to prevent transmission of this terrible virus.
Learning this week…
Class 1 have been immersing themselves in their new winter topic. They have been busy learning a winter poem, creating penguins for our display and singing
‘on a cold and frosty morning’.
Class 2 shared their new class book about dragons in assembly this week, which they are really enjoying. Many creative activities have already come out of it.
Class 3 have been learning about the Viking tale
‘Beowulf’. They have been writing descriptions, job adverts and monologues all from the book
by Michael Morpurgo. In Maths, they have been focusing on their timestables and are all en-
joying using TT Rockstars!
Home Learning
This half term the focus for Home Learning will be three essential things:
1. Listen to your child read as often as possible.
For the younger children, we would expect this to be every day and as their ability progresses
in the older year groups, you will find they need less support from you and will love to pick up
a book for pleasure. We would still recommend hearing them read and sharing books with
them three times a week and hope you will see this as a relaxing, positive time where you
focus purely on this one task.
2. Give your child daily practice time on Times Tables Rockstars.
This will significantly improve your child’s mental recall and fluency, which translates directly
into their understanding during maths lessons.
3. Spend time supporting your child in learning their spellings or phonics.
Within school, we practise these three vital skills daily, but the advantages for those children
who are supported at home are vast. They are three fundamental skills that only take a small
amount of time within the day. Thank you for your support with this.

Harry had his first match for Plymouth School Boys! From the off he tor-mented the Gloucester full back, and eventually popped up with our winner, a spectacular right footed drive which flew over the keeper to seal the three points in the boys first appearance in their city colours, a proud moment for
all. Full write up available at:
