concrete foot-bridge of Hungary

can be found in the port of Bala

tonföldvár.

The far-famed devotionary scul p-

ture of the Virgin Mary ‘lives’ in the

Gothic chapel of the Andocs church,

dating back to the 1500s; the sculp-

ture is given a new robe by the local

people, every second Friday.

If we want to ride a bike in Sió-

fok, by the sió canal, we can turn

to the cycle path winding along

the dam before the Baross Bridge.

In the course of the tour we can

get a taste of the scenery of the

Somogy Hill-country.

work and shepherd-style carving.

The embroidery art of the village is

far-famed. This colourful world of

terliche Lebenspanoptikum unter-

gebracht. In den Kasematten mit

dem Grundriss eines griechischen

Kreuzes ist das Husarenmuseum zu

besichtigen. ›

Buzsák ist die Heimat der Sti-

ckereien und der Hirtenschnit-

zereien. Die Stickereikunst des

Dorfes ist weithin bekannt. In dem

Heimathaus und im Dorfhaus zeigt

die ständige Ausstellung die reich-

haltige Farben- und Formenwelt.

Balatonfenyves ist ein ruhiger,

familiärer Urlaubsort und bietet

sorgende Römer-Quelle wurden

im 20. Jahrhundert freigelegt. Von

nachbarten Zeugenberge.

ter as a natural bath. The sulphu-

ric, slightly radioactive water of

The Festetics Castle is deser-

vedly the most well-known build-

ing of keszthely. In the building

one can find various exhibitions:

the Coach Museum, the Hunting

Museum, as well as the model rail

ked Needle) and the Sea of Rocks,

i.e. special attractions of the Bala-

ton Highlands National Park.


The guard of the Káli Basin, the 337

high hegyestű between Zánka

and Monoszló, whose northern

part was extracted by the former

quarry. The lava curdled in the

crater of the former volcano split

up into multiangular, upright co-

lumns as a result of the cooling.

The sight is unique in Hungary, but

also represents a rare occurrence

on a European scale. ›kékkút owes its fame to the

mineral water of Kékkút. The bott-

ling of this water started back in

the 1900s. Visitors can also collect

water from the springs - let’s taste

the favourite drink of the Byzan-

tine empress without fear!

ckens ist der sich zwischen Zánka

und Monoszló erhebende 337 m

hohe hegyestű, dessen nördlicher

Teil durch den früheren Steinbruch

abgebaut wurde. Die im Krater des

einstigen Vulkans erstarrte Lava

wurde nach dem Abkühlen zu ei-

ner vieleckigen senkrechten Säule

geformt. Der Anblick ist einmalig

in Ungarn, doch auch in ganz Eu-

ropa nur selten zu finden. ›kékkút verdankt seinen Ruf

dem Mineralwasser, das seit 1900

in Flaschen abgefüllt wird. Auch

heute gibt es noch die Gelegen-

heit, Wasser zu entnehmen. Man

sollte dieses Lieblingsgetränk der

byzantinischen Kaiserin kosten!

Tihany Deed of Foundation (of the

monastery) dating back to 1055 in-

cludes the oldest written words of

Visitor Centre of the Tihany Bene-

dictine Abbey entitled porta pacis,

that is the Gate of Peace, after ha-

ving looked at the undercroft and

the magnificent Baroque church.

the Inner Lake visitors can become

sichtigung der Unterkirche und der

prächtigen Barockkirche in das Be-

sucherzentrum der Benediktinerab-

tei, die porta pacis, was Tor des Frie-

dens bedeutet, hereinzuschauen.

Inmitten von Lavendel: das la

vendelhaus. In dem am Ufer des

Inneren Sees errichteten Besucher-

zentrum kann man die einst unge-

stüme Welt der Vulkane kennenler-

nen. Im Mittelpunkt der Ausstellung

steht das jahrhundertelange Zu-

sammenleben der Menschen von

Tihany und der Natur, die prägende

Kultur sowie der Lavendelanbau.›

quented roads marked for cyclists .

Balaton-Radweg ist der See voll-

weise auf ausgebauten Radwegen,

teilweise auf ausgeschilderten

Straßen mit wenig Verkehr.

siÓFok 168 is the capital of Balaton in summer. The King of Operetta, Imre Kálmán, was born in this town. The 45 meter high Water Tower built in 1912 in the middle of downtown was completely renovated in 2011 and also the tourist information office was moved to this place.

BAlAtonkenese 190 takes pride in the tartar bread plants growing lavishly on the slopes of the Soós Hill and appearing in Europe in con-tinuous clusters only in this environment. Also the Provincial House of the Year of 2011 can be found in this village.

Unterwegs können Sie unter vielen unterschiedlichen Unterkünf-ten wählen. Wir empfehlen Ihnen, sich darüber auf der Website www.balatontourism.hu zu informieren. Und was sollte man sich auf dieser langen Tour anschauen?

Unsere vorgeschlagene Tour beginnen wir in BAlAtonAlmáDi, 0man sollte dort den Aussichtspunkt Óvári Messzelátó besuchen. Zeu-ge alter Zeiten ist der historische Stadtteil Vörösberény mit seiner auf Fundamenten aus der Römerzeit stehenden, befestigten reformierten Kirche, die im 16. bis 17. Jahrhundert errichtet wurde und gotische Stil-merkmale trägt.

In AlsÓÖRs 6 steht das älteste gotische Herrenhaus Ungarns, das im Volksmund Türkenhaus genannt wird.

In csopAk 11 findet man am Radweg nicht nur einen Rastplatz für Radfahrer, auch die „Vogelbeobachtungs-Sternwarte” erwartet die Besucher. Wenn man die Ortschaft hinter sich lässt, weiden direkt am Radweg Graurinder, es lohnt sich, eine Rast einzulegen und die Tiere anzuschauen. ›In BAlAtonFüReD 16 überqueren wir die berühmte Tagore Prome-

nade – schon hier können wir auf die Sauerwasserquelle treffen, doch auch bei dem aus der Stadt herausführenden Abschnitt kann man die Feldflaschen mit dem Wasser auffüllen. In der Nachbarschaft der Quelle wurde ein Fahrradpark angelegt.

In ÖRVényes 26 steht die älteste, aus dem 11. Jahrhundert stammen-de Wassermühle Ungarns, die Mühle ist bis heute funktionstüchtig.

Unsere nächste Station ist BAlAtonuDVARi 28 , ein kleines Dorf am Nordufer, das neben der romantischen Legende, an welche die herz-förmigen Grabsteine auf dem Friedhof des Ortes erinnern, auch wegen seines Golfplatzes bekannt ist.

In zánkA 41 sollte man sich den Rüstungstechnik-Park des Kinder- und Jugendzentrums nicht entgehen lassen bzw. sollte man, wenn man ein wenig von dem Radweg abweicht, die Felsformation des Hegyestű besichtigen. ›In RéVFülÖp 48 lohnt es sich, einen Abstecher zum Millennium-Aus-sichtsturm zu machen.

Auf unserer Tour kommen wir in eine der schönsten Gegenden am Bala-ton am Fuße des Ortes BADAcsony 62 . Eine Besonderheit von Bada-csonytomaj ist die St. Imre Kirche. Nicht nur die Kirchenwände, sondern auch ihr Gewölbe sind aus Basalt gebaut.

In BAlAtoneDeRics 74 sollte man das Afrika-Museum besuchen und damit einen anderen Kontinent betreten. ›In gyenesDiás 85 kann man im Abenteuerpark weitere spannende Abenteuer erleben und etwas auf dem Bio- und Fischmarkt kaufen.

In keszthely 89 angekommen führt der Balaton-Radweg in der Nä-he des Strandes und der Schiffsanlegestelle entlang. Von der aus der Stadt führenden Allee kann man dann in Richtung des Kleinen Balatons abzweigen.

In BAlAtoneDeRics 74 , we can stride across to another continent, by visiting the Africa Museum. ›In gyenesDiás 85 , we can look for new sources of exhilaration in the adventure park and can make shopping in the BAB bio and fish market.

When we arrive at keszthely 89 , the Balaton Bicycle Route runs along the shore-line and passes by the boat station. You can bifurcate from the outgoing road lined by trees towards kis(little)-BAlAton.

The expanding BAlAtonmáRiAFüRDő 106 and BAlAtonkeResz-túR have completely become intertwined. There are almost ten smaller and larger free beaches along this calm and tranquil leg of the shoreline.

BAlAtonFenyVes 114 is the gateway to the Nagyberek nature conser-vation area. A small-gauge railway starts from the Fenyves-alsó beach. ›When you arrive at FonyÓD 122 , have a look at the longest (464 m!) mole ever built in Lake Balaton! It is worth climbing up the Várhegy Lookout Tower that was renovated in 2011.

In BAlAtonBogláR 130 , it is worth seeing the new unique aqua-park, called “the Boglár Bubble”. Also the 140-year old paddle-steamer moored in the town’s port shall be renovated. ›In BAlAtonszemes 141 a fun-pool park built on the beach offers great fun for youngsters and their parents as well. ›In BAlAtonFÖlDVáR 151 , you can ride on a completely renewed bicy-cle track, provided with two laybys (Fesztivál Square, port).

We can put our courage to the test in the Adventure Park of zAmáRDi 158 . A boulder rock named “Szamárkő” can be found at the western side of the town, along the road leading towards the “Kőhegy” lookout tower.

Balaton BIcycle routeIf you want to pedal around Lake Balaton 1 , allow at least 3 or 4 days to complete the tour. It is worth visiting www.balatontourism.hu to gather information about the variety of accommodation available and where should you stop during the long journey.

If you start from BAlAtonAlmáDi 0 , it is worth visiting the „Óvári Observation Tower” of Óvár. The reinforced Calvinist church built during the 11th and 12th century in the old downtown of Vörösberény upon Romanesque foundations and bearing marks of the Gothic style, has witnessed many conflicts.

The oldest gothic mansion-house of Hungary, named by the local peop-le Turkish House, can be found in AlsÓÖRs 6 . ›In csopAk 11 , we can find a lay-by besides the cycle track for cyclists and also the “Bird Watching and Star Viewer”. In the outskirts of the vil-lage, grey cattle pasture; it is good to have a rest and watch them. ›In BAlAtonFüReD 16 , we shall ride along the famous Tagore Alley. We can find already here an acidulous spring but several others can be found along the roads leading out of the town. A bike-park has been built near the spring.

We can find the oldest water mill built in the 11th century and yet still capable of operation in ÖRVényes 26 .

We find our next station besides BAlAtonuDVARi 28 , a nice little vil-lage renowned for a romantic legend prompted by heart-shaped grave-stones visible in the local grave-yard. Also the golf-course is well-known and frequented.

In zánkA 41 , you should not miss visiting the Military Engineering Park of the Child and Youth Centre. In addition, a small detour will lead you to the “Spiked Needle” which is a geological site, because there was once a volcano here. ›In RéVFülÖp 48 it is worth diverging from the route to see the Millen-nium Observation Tower.

BAlAtonFenyVes 114 ist das Tor zum Naturschutzgebiet des Nagy-berek. Neben dem Strand von Fenyves-alsó fährt die Fenyveser Klein-bahn ab. ›Wenn man nach FonyÓD 122 kommt, sollte man sich die längste (464 m!) Mole des Balaton anschauen! Es lohnt sich auch, auf den im Jahr 2011 restaurierten Aussichtsturm des Burgberges - ungarisch Várhegy - hinauf zu steigen!

In BAlAtonBogláR 130 sollte man ab 2013 den außergewöhnlichen Wasserspielplatz besuchen, der den Namen "Boglári Buborék" trägt. Re-stauriert wird auch der im Hafen der Stadt liegende, fast 140 Jahre alte Schraubendampfer, der heute als Museumsschiff fungiert. ›In BAlAtonszemes 141 erwartet das Erlebnisbad am Strand alle Bade-lustigen. ›In BAlAtonFÖlDVáR 151 können wir auf dem vollständig in Stand ge-setzten Radweg radeln, an dem auch zwei Fahrrad-Rastplätze angelegt wurden (Fesztivál tér, Hafen).

Seinen Mut kann man im Abenteuerpark von zAmáRDi 158 auf die Probe stellen. Der „Eselsstein" genannte Felsblock befindet sich am westlichen Stadtrand an dem zum Aussichtsturm des Berges Kőhegy führenden Weg.

siÓFok 168 ist im Sommer die Hauptstadt des Balatons. In der Stadt wurde der „Operettenkönig“ Imre Kálmán geboren. Im Zentrum von Sió-fok erhebt sich der im Jahr 1912 gebaute, 45 m hohe Wasserturm, der im Jahr 2011 vollständig restauriert wurde. Hier wurde auch das Touristik-Informationsbüro untergebracht!

Der Stolz von BAlAtonkenese 190 ist der an den Ausläufern des Ber-ges Soós-hegy zu findende prächtige Meerkohl, der heute in einer zu-sammenhängenden Kolonie in Europa nur hier angesiedelt ist. In der Ortschaft befindet sich auch das Heimathaus des Jahres 2011.
