Palm Sunday(continued fro m page 20)darkness. Traditionally, theceremony embodies theextinguishing in succession of thecandles and other lights on thealtar and in the church , thuscasting the sanctuary intodarkness. At the end only onecandle remains burning. Thislight is removed for a short time ,symbolizing Christ's three daysin the tomb. The light is thenreturned and spreads its lightthrough the disciples symbolizedby the choir. Men of thecongregation will participatewith the selected readings.
United MethodistPalm Sunday will see two
major events: Com-munion Breakfast will beheld at the CongregationalChurch on Palm Sunday, March19 at 7:30 a.m . The guest speakerwill be another Dr. HenryWhyman , a former districtsuperintendent and formerexecutive of the United MethodistCity Society . Dr. Whyman willbring a brief message of somework being done by Christians inone of the greatest mission fieldsin the world - New York City.Tickets are only $1.25.
"Gloria", by Vivaldi , will beperformed by the choir at the9:30 and 11 a .m. services on PalmSunday. It is a major work ofabout 20 minutes length . Ourchoir has already begun work onit , and will present it in place ofthe sermon.
Maundy Thursday, March 23will be celebrated with a specialUpper Room Service of TheLord's Supper . Communion willbe served in the sanctuaryaround tables. All are invited tothis special commemoration ofour Lord's gift to us at 8 p .m.
Easter Sunday will be markedwith two completely identicalservices. There will be no churchschool that day, so that familiesmay all attend church together.There will be a children 's sermonat both services as well as infantcare at both hours . The choir willsing at both services. Followingthe children 's sermon, the littlestones may go out to view a specialmovie while the older childrenremain with their families for thesermon.
