Despite the outdoor attraction* the week has been a pleasant ono in social circles in Missoula and the number of entertaiments h.-uo been larger than for some time past. Thero is, how - ever, a marked tendency on the part of society people to desert the house parties and spend as much tune a* possible o il of doors, whero green trees and blossoms are truly inviting. Noilntig could be more is* ligbtful than a a 1. 1 no . h tno snootsol tlieGarden City this week. 'X !i shade trees are at last in full leaf ami fruit orchards present a wealth of fragrant blossoms to bo enjoyed and admired by evening stroll- ers. Flow er gardens, loo, aro beginum.' to bo attractive and the many lieautiful lawns about theeltj are admired by hun- dreds n ho sco them. Messrs. It is no wonder that social ditties are tiecoming onerous and that tho cloae of the socinl season is being hailed with pleasure by the hdlos and beaux of lliiscity. 1 titt this fact has not interfered with the success of tho pleasing entertainments given during the week, as all have been well attended and thoroughly enjoyed. In fact, it is doubtful if a moro pleasurable party has boon held this season than that given by Miss Beckwith on Monday even- ing in honor of the Bioda club. The even- ing was a merry ono and was enjoy ml to the utmost by every ono present. The first amusement of the evening was a lit- erary game, the object of w hich was to inako as many words ns possible out of tho letters contained in the name, "llenr> Wadsworth Longfellow." Fifteen min- utes wero allowed for the game and Charles Blair w as pronounced the w inner, with 147 w o r d s to his credit. Miss (,or- trude Hutheway won the serontl prize, be- ing but a few words behind Mr. Blair. But the most amusing feature of the en- tertaiumonl was to follow. At the conclu- sion of the word game u collection of old bat* was brought in, ono having hcuii con- tributed by each inemlier of tho lliodu club, together w i t h a basket of ribbon and trimmings. Each gentleman selected a hat and a basket ami proceeded to irim the head gear. Meanw hile, each lady had selcctod a piece of riblMiii and was fash- ioning from it a gentleman's necktie. When the millinery work was comploicd, each gentleman gave his hat to n lady, she in turn presenting him with a lie. Then tho ladies, wearing the hat*, marched past tho Judges, Mrs. Hammond and M r . n n d M r s . Beckwith. After the line had passed in review, the l.idie* wearing the lints trim me I by Messrs. Bonner, Walker ar.d Itw. C. II. Linley were called buck and half an hour was spent in the consideration of the relative merits of each from an artistic point of view. Finally the judges decided that the hm worn b> M.s-. I.ebeau ati'l n mimed by Mr. \V.,ik.>r »»» the best and the handsome man milliner received the prize. No collection of millinery was ever moro learful to behold, although the young men produced somo beadwear that i would bo exceedingly popular with the reservation people. If tho hats were had. I tho neckties were horrible, ami nl.i n the gentli'ineii lined up before tho judges tho display of neckwoar wa* astounding. Messrs. I.von an I Moser wero requested to leavo the room at once. ** le.u'ful were their cravats, which had been constructed by Misses Know hoi anil llailiewa).
