By Nancy Narma “What is one to say about June, the time of perfect young summer, the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to re- mind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade.” ~Ger- trude Jekyll The Summer Reading Pro- gram is starting soon. Regis- trations will be taken starting June 13th and ending June 17th. If your children enjoyed this cure for the Summertime Blues, please stop in at your local Forest City Library Lo- cation, and speak with Diana, Joan or Andrea and they’ll be more than happy to sign up your youngsters. This year’s theme is “On Your Mark, Get Set, READ!!” , which will include exercise for the mind as well as the body. You will notice that the Library is all decorated with this theme. Many great books, games and presenters are be- ing planned as you read this. All programs will be on Wednesdays, starting at 10:30 AM. The “Kick-Off Program” on June 22nd, will be presented by Donna Horn and Mary Beth Manns from the Mon- trose Library’s Outreach Dept. The June 29th Reading Pro- gram will feature a “Play Ball” theme. Reading Program par- ticipants will be craſting their own personal pennants. On July 6th, we will explore the world of racing and we will have two exciting guests— Zach Striefsky, Browndale, who will be speaking about motocross racing and Dave Pecko who is a race car driver, will be explaining about his sport as well. On July 13th , we will go on a “Camping Trip in the Li- brary” complete with games and most of all, music and a sing-a-long with Mary Ferraro with accompaniment by Paul Ferraro and his banjo. July 20th will be a special time for all Reading Program participants as, thanks to Bob Wirts and the Browndale Sportsman’s Club, there will be a fishing derby and picnic for all Summer Reading Pro- gram members. The Brown- dale Sportsman’s Club has been sponsoring this in coor- dination with the Forest City Library for over 10 years and it is sincerely appreciated. At the picnic, games will be played, including a “Minute to Win It” competition. Medals will be awarded to the winners . Doesn’t this sound like fun?? Well, don’t delay, get in and register today! The Forest City Library’s Kindergarten Program was held last week with 48 stu- dents being bussed to the Li- brary. Mrs. Brothwell and her talented Consumer Science Class presented an amazing program on Space-related top- ics with spell-binding stories and action-packed games. Many thanks to Mrs. Brothwell and her Class for taking time from their busy schedules and donating their extraordinary talents to produce such a suc- cessful program. They have presented programs annually for several years and they nev- er cease to amaze us with their creativity and devotion in get- ting youngsters to read. It has been said that one of the best giſts you can give a youngster is a Library Card. That giſt was bestowed on the Kindergarteners last week. We hope they will use it until it is well-worn and dog-eared, as they open a treasure-trove of new adventures within pages. As I read my book and lis- ten to the Cardinal’s call, I will leave you with this thought: “Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the blue sky, is by no means waste of time.” ~ John Lubbock, “Recreation,” The Use of Life, 1894 Enjoy!! www.GoneFishingPa.com Bass Season Opener June 18 (Statewide) Multi-year, annual, senior and non-resident licenses available.
