It always has been, always will be. Were the true Afghans, the pure Afghans, not this Flat Nose here.

Daniel Romero

The native Pashtuns want to kill all Hazaras still in Afghanistan.I had read about the Hazara massacre in Mazari-i-Sharif in the papers.Door-to-door we only rested for food and prayer, the Talib said. He said fondly, like a man telling of a great party hed attended We left the bodies in the streets, and if their families tried to sneak out to drag them back into their homes, wed shoot them too.

Daniel Romero

Social ClassYoure looked down upon if you socialize with a Hazara. In fact you bother me more than this Hazara here. How can you talk to him, play with him, let him touch you?Hazaras are forced to be the Pashtuns slaves. You had servants probably HazarasLucky Hazara having such a concerned master. His father should dust the floor with his eye lashes.

Daniel Romero

Pashtuns are not supposed to marry and have a family with a Hazara.Since Ali was infertile Baba had a child with Sanauber for Ali. But Baba could never tell anyone that the child was his own. Change from wealthy upper class to a lower class immigrant When Baba and Amir moved to America they were just another immigrant. Baba worked at a gas station and they lived in a ratty apartment.

Daniel Romero

SettingLife in Afghanistan The beginning takes place in the beautiful and peaceful capital city of Kabul in Eastern Afghanistan.Amir lives in a three story house in the Wazir Akbar Khan district. Their house is surrounded by a fence and they have beautiful gardens and a big back yard. They have all the latest things because Baba is a very successful business owner.Amir is the son of the richest man in Kabul and gets exempted from certain aspects of life like bullying and school punishment because of it.

Daniel Romero

Life in AmericaThey live in a small old apartment in San Francisco.Baba has to work at a gas station pumping gas. They have to sell used junk at the flea market to make ends meet.Theyre just another immigrant from Afghanistan.

Daniel Romero

ThemesRedemption:Throughout the book Baba is trying to redeem himself for not telling Hassan that he is his child. He fixes his cleft lip, takes Hassan on trips to other towns. I think that everything he did, feeding the poor, giving money to friends in need, it was all a way of redeeming himself. And that, I believe, is what true redemption is, Amir jan, when guilt leads to good.

Daniel Romero

Towards the end of the book Amir is trying to redeem himself for not helping Hassan.Amir goes back to Afghanistan to rescue his half brothers son, his nephew. He risks his life to bring him back to America and raise him.Amir makes the final step of redemption by over coming his fear by rescuing Hassans son Sohrab. This act of honor and courage finally makes Amir his fathers son.

Daniel Romero

Class StructureAmir disagrees with the classification of Hazara and PashtunAnd one more thing, General SahibYou will never again refer to him as Hazara boy in my presence. He has a name and its Sohrab. His time with Farid and his family helps him get a better feel for what its truly like to be an Afghan. There is a division of Hazara and Pashtuns through jobs, way of life, and living conditions

Daniel Romero

Mans Cruelty The Taliban would kill anyone who was a Hazara whether man, woman, or child Taliban shoot Hassan and his wife in front of their son Sohrab for no reasonAssef beat a kid up with brass knuckles just because he stood up to himAssef stoned the two people at the Soccer stadium to death.

Daniel Romero

Loyalty to OthersHassan still wanted to be friends with Amir even though he didnt help him in the alleyEven though Amir lied, taunted, and teased Hassan he still wanted to be his friendAmir would not give up on Hassan even after months of silence Soraya didnt think about leaving Amir after all the time he had been gone in Afghanistan

Daniel Romero

Characterization Amir Start out as the son of a successful entrepreneurReceives everything he wants, but not the thing he wants the mostOthers, mostly Baba, fight his battles for him When his father and him live in America theyre just another immigrant

Daniel Romero

He still gets what he wants from his father: a car, college, and approval to marry SorayaAmir has to fight his own battles now and go find Sohrab He has to go it alone and fight Assef, his old bully, for Sohrab without any helpHe ends up making the last big step towards becoming the man his father was raising him to be by deciding to raise Sohrab by himself

Daniel Romero

RoundHe expresses all feelings; sorrow, joy, disappointment, love, contempt, and rejection. In the beginning he is a coward, but by the end he changes into a loving and courageous father. DynamicIn the beginning Amir is very self centered and self conscious. He is a coward and others have to fight his battles In the end Hassan becomes the father figure that Sohrab needs and that his father wanted him to become. He no longer believes in the whole Hazara verses Pashtuns and has started to stick up for himself

Daniel Romero

HassanBegins as a loyal, and naive friendBelieves everything Amir tells him because he doesnt know any betterHe would do anything for HassanOnce he leaves he becomes more educated and realizes what Amir was doing to himHe still loves Amir and Baba enough to take care of their house until he died

Daniel Romero

Flat Only shows his love, and respect for Amir and his father. He never shows signs of hate even when Amir betrayed him or when others made fun of him.StaticHassans loyalty to Amir never wavers even after the incident in the alley Until his death he is still Amirs servant

Daniel Romero

BabaLoving and caring of his son Amir and his servants son HassanVery social, he throws parties every weekRichest man in Kabul, this makes him well known to othersDisappointed in his son, Amir isnt much like him. He is a coward and not athletic but he loves him all the same

Daniel Romero

On the way to America we see his bad side when he tries to strangle their driverHe shows his courage when he defends the woman from the Russian soldierWhen they move to America Baba isnt the same; hes not as happy and he has lost some of his enthusiasmHe starts to accept his son and begins to look upon him with more pride

Daniel Romero

RoundAt first Baba shows us that he is hard working, caring, and thoughtful of others. When they have to leave Kabul we see his courage and his vengefulnessIn America Baba becomes very humble and somber StaticHis habits never change, he still drinks and likes to socialize with fellow AfghansHis values never change, he still believes lying is the worst thing you can doHis attitude never changes, he still doesn't believe in God and he still doesnt like the fact that Amir wants to become a writer

Daniel Romero

Assef In the beginning he is a radical Pashtun with bad intentionsHe is unmerciful to any who go against him He despises the Hazara and wants them all deadWhen we see him later on in the book he is still the same he hates Amir and all Hazaras but now he is doing something about it

Daniel Romero

FlatHe only shows his malice, prejudice, and disgust of all Hazaras throughout the entire book. He doesnt do anything other than torture and later on kill Hazaras. StaticAssef never gets over his hate of Hazaras and he is still a sociopath

Daniel Romero

Afghanistan TodayHome to the TalibanMost dangerous place in the world for a child to be bornThe US and Afghan militias are combating the Taliban

Has recently become a republicLead by President Hamid Karzai

Daniel Romero

Bibliography Kite Runner By: Khald Hosseini

Daniel Romero

The End

Daniel Romero
