This document’s purpose is to give a brief outline of the provision available to young people in the Doncaster area in respect of education, employment and training.

NB Post 16 usually relates to 16-19 years old unless otherwise stated.

Pre 16 schools programme.

Post 16 Study Programme and Traineeship programmes.

Currently have funding up to age of 19 for study programmes but up to 24 for Traineeships Student will be put on a programme namely Traineeship, to offer Employability Skills, Interview Preparation, Functional Skills (Maths and English) and work placement (they will try to offer what people want so please ask). Programmes start each fortnight, will need to have an assessment and induction.

Study Programmes: E3 to Level 2 (Alongside qualification will do employability and Maths and English. If student has Level 1 Functional Skills or grade 3 GCSE will go straight to GCSE, if not they will do Functional Skills) Child Care (will need DBS) Health and Social Care (will need DBS)

Business Admin Customer Services Public Services Health and Fitness is available at Levels 2 & 3 but only have intakes in Sep and Oct (this Includes the gym instructors award). This course is delivered in conjunction with Nike.

* Motor Vehicle and Horticulture can be done as a placement only option

Students can do full or part time options with full-time being usually 2 mornings, 1 afternoon and 1 full day. Will need to do minimum of 2 weeks work placement.

Parenting skills can be done as part of the childcare programme for young mums

Students can apply for bursary if household income is under £30K and others may get help with bus fares. Students on traineeships will get expenses only if on Universal Credit.

Pre 16 Programme from Year 10 Post 16 Study Programmes up to 19 and Apprenticeships at Level 2 and 3 and Traineeships Work areas: Health and Beauty Hairdressing

Traineeships are unpaid and students will spend 2 days in a salon and 1 day at Oracle.

Level 3 courses are available for 19+ students that already have a Level 2. However, students will need to take out an advanced learning loan to cover the costs.

Post 16 Study Programme, Traineeship and Apprenticeship programmes.

CLA offer to young people 19+ they are willing to support any young person who is wishing to access training, with a view to progressing in to paid work or apprenticeship.

19+ Funded Employability Courses most are work area focussed including Engineering, Manufacturing, Health & Social Care, Retail, Hospitality, Administration, Childcare and Logistics.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospital offer work experience and volunteering opportunities. They have an apprenticeship scheme which they would like to offer posts in a variety of areas to young people who have been or are in care.

Volunteering can do done in the following areas:

Doncaster UTC will join the Brighter Futures Learning Partnership trust and will specialise in Engineering and Creative & Digital Technologies, providing a high-quality curriculum in co-operation with industry partners and is due to open Years 9 and 12 in September 2020. The school will work closely with a number of external bodies such as the University of Sheffield, Polypipe and VolkerRail. This is intended to ensure that students are able to Maximise their employability and relevance in the modern workplace. Doncaster UTC will still offer a strong wider curriculum with subjects such as Geography and Business Studies. Post 16 options will include a range of A levels linked to the specialisms and study Cambridge National Qualification alongside.

Students need to have an EHCP to study at the Communication College. They have a school, residential and also a college for post 16 students.

Making your UCAS application Applying Essentials is a specific service for care leavers This means that admissions officers will be aware of your circumstances, and will give your application additional consideration when they receive it, and when exam results are re-leased. Depending on the qualifications you're taking, they may also be able to make you an alternative offer of one A Level grade below the standard entry requirements for your course, or the equivalent if you're taking other qualifications. Financial support Care leavers who attend the University are entitled to a comprehensive financial support package, including a non-repayable care leavers bursary. This money is yours to keep, you don't have to repay it and it won't affect your student finance. University bursary for care leavers

We also have accommodation scholarships available for care leavers. The team can also put you in touch with one of our current students from a similar back-ground so you can talk more informally about making the transition to being a University of Sheffield student.

Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) Progress provides support for applicants whose per-sonal circumstances might mean that there are barriers to going to university. The scheme provides additional support in the year of application and throughout the application pro-cess, including your to transition to becoming a university student.

What they will provide:

A personal contact at the university who will be there to provide advice and answer your questions throughout the year

o Referrals to specialist teams within the university such as Careers and Employability, Fund-ing, Wellbeing and Inclusive Support

o Practical support throughout the year with key stages of the application process such as UCAS, Student Finance, Accommodation, Disabled Student Support and transition etc.
