Bassoe Technology - Overview • Engineering company with focus on marine

and offshore engineering – Design of semi’s and ship-shaped units – General marine and offshore engineering

services • Experienced team of engineers with

historical key-roles in a number of 6:th generation and floating production semi’s – Approx. 55 employees – Up to 50 additional consultants

• Located in Gothenburg, Sweden • Owned by CIMC (Yantai Raffles) but

independent and does also work with other clients/yards.

4

Bassoe Technology - Timeline

5

• Started late 2007 by Erland Bassoe and former management and key engineers with background from GVA-C • Bassoe group wanted to build up an engineering company to

assist in project development related to floating units • Acquired (90%) by CIMC – China International Marine Containers

• Sister company to CIMC Raffels (Yantai) and CIMC Capital • BT to remain independent and free to work with other yards but

when beneficial try to create synergies with sister companies

OEI & YCRO and BT in Yantai

• Objective & Goal (in brief)

– Initially, Strengthen relationship between OEI/YCRO and BT such as: • Over bridge culture differences and improve understanding of work methods. • Improve communications in projects and sales • Identify & Improve common areas of interest • Share Experiences & Resources, Add value to both companies

(Note, two parties with bad English, non native. Body language is 75% of communication)

– Forthcoming, Improve work and market activities • Improve concept work with the aim of a more efficient detail design and fabrication • Improve project work and act as liaison engineers, bidirectionally. • Together and as individual companies increase market window & sales • Investigate possible optimization in methods and tools

11

BT-5000 Harsh Environment Mid Water Semi

12

Basis & Reason

• Mid Water Semi - Initiated <2013 to renew existing old fleet

• Improve and develop a more effective, safe, environmental friendly solution and tools for the industry

• Concept is driven by low oil price • Competitive with other designs

13

BT-5000 – Harsh Midwater Semi • Midwater Semi for harsh

environments – UK Shelf & Worldwide

• Alternative NCS version – Moored with thruster assist

• Self-contained 8-point mooring for waterdepths up to 500/610 m (UK/mild)

• Prepared for future 12-line system • Pre-set moorings up to 1,500 m

• Developed in cooperation with YCRO OEI with funding from CIMC – Intended for construction at YCRO

• YCRO OEI = Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Engineering Institute

– Basic design phase 2 ongoing 14

BT-5000 – Drilling Capabilities • Flexibility for Owner preferences for drilling

equipment and layout • Off-critical path preparations

– Off-line stand-building – Dedicated coiled tubing area – Wire-line area

• Base case is single derrick – 1,000 tons hook-load – Drilling depth up to 30,000+ ft – Derrick height 170+ ft (Triples)

• Conventional riser tensioners • BOP and X-mas tree handling flexibility

– Optional storage of second BOP stack – X-mas tree and subsea equipment handling

• Triple segregated mud-system • ROV areas integrated in deck-box

– Guidewires for launching/recovery 15

BT-5000 - Payload • The BT-5000 will have the

following payloads: Operation/Survival Norway Deck and Column Payload 5,000 tonnes Total Payload 12,000+ tonnes Transit Total Payload 4,000 tonnes (Based on 2,350 tonnes chain onboard, not included in the 4,000 tonnes).

19

BT-5000 Motions and Workability

20

Motions and Workability • BT has performed hull-form optimization for the BT-

5000 to provide excellent motion performance – Long term workability in harsh environments – Sufficient natural period for operations in areas with

presence of long swells • Workability analysis has been performed:

– Åsgard (Haltenbanken) wave scatter – Statoil motion limits for various critical operations – Water depth, 500 m – Reference units included for comparison

BT-5000 Resistance/Drag

23

Transit Speed/Resistance • Majority of semi-submersible

pontoon designs are without basic consideration of transit speed – Gusto DSS/Ocean series & F&G EXD –

Rectangular ends w/rounded corners – BT, GVA & Moss – Elliptical ends (w/wo

flat part) • BT has over the last year performed

external and in-house CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) studies to optimize pontoon geometry, which has resulted in significant resistance reduction.

24

CFD of pontoon with elliptical ends

CFD of pontoon with optimized end

Transit Speed – CFD study • By selecting a correct pontoon

shape, a significant reduction in power and improvement in transit speed can be achieved

• A new pontoon end has been developed that has resulted in significant reduction in propulsion power over comparable semi’s: – 50% of original BT hull – 20% of GM-4000 – 60% of Ocean 500

• Further, with a trim by stern the resistance is additionally reduced.

Ocean 500

Current Load • The BT-5000 has been arranged

with rounded pontoon corners with large radius around the pontoons

• Although the drag reduction due to rounded corners is well-known, many modern semi are with sharp corners at the pontoon deck and small column corners – Gusto, Moss, GVA

• Due to the rounded corners at pontoon and column the BT-5000 will have similar current load as much smaller competing designs
