Be in School Every DayGood attendance is closely linked with doing well in school. Children simply can’t achieve to their full potential if

they are not in school learning. We are working really hard to improve attendance here at Kestrels’ Field.

Attendance percentages compared with last year:Spring 1 last year – 90.62% Spring 1 this year – 93.74%

Thank you for all your excellent efforts! Mr Hansen.

KS1 sports festival10 KS1 Children from Year 1&2 took part at Aylestone

Leisure Centre. The afternoon was run by Knighton

Fields Primary. The stations included a variety of

sports such as Basketball, Hockey, New Age Kurling,

an Obstacle Course, Tag-Rugby and Kabaddi.

Children thoroughly enjoyed the day and are very

excited for the next one!

Year 6 Trip to Beaumanor HallAs part of our WW2 topic, year 6 took a trip to

Beaumanor Hall, where we experienced being

code-breakers as well as life as evacuees. Our day

started by being split into groups of boys and girls,

before learning how to decode Morse code

messages. The children were given the roles of

message-takers, dispatchers and also code-

breakers. In the afternoon, we went into a real-life

air-raid shelter. We were given gas masks and were

able to experience noises of aeroplanes and bombs

being dropped. To keep our spirits up, we also sang

popular songs at the time.

Governor Opening Morning

We welcomed our school governors into school last week. It was their opportunity to see the school in action and

speak to senior leaders about all that we have done as a school so far this year. Governors went on learning

walks through school. Looked at children’s learning in books and spoke to children in class. They were

impressed by the standards of behaviour and how well the children demonstrated our character behaviours as

well as the learning in books and classrooms.

YR 6 Author VisitAn amazing morning had by all

of Year 6 at the Leicester Tigers

where we got to meet the

famous author Ross

Montgomery. We had an

inspirational talk followed by the

opportunity to do some creative

writing with his amazing

guidance!

EYFS, Reception, Year 1 & 2

A huge well done to the children who received a

homework award this half-term. We are incredibly

proud of the effort and curiosity that has been

shown outside of school.

There were some fabulous projects made across

each year group. Year 1 have been busy making

toys, Year 2 researched Florence Nightingale and

Reception made their very own bags for life to

save our planet. There were many other creative

additions too!

At Kestrels’ we really appreciate the time spent

supporting your children’s learning at home and

we are already looking forward to the next

homework assembly on the 1st of March.

Year 3, 4, 5 & 6

A huge well done to our Junior Homework Award

winners! We had models, posters, descriptions in

books...every winner had done a fabulous job!

Keep it up!

SEND Review

In January 2019, Kestrels’ Field Primary School took part in a SEND Review. This review was over

2 days and looked at SEND practice within the school. The report has been finalised and here are

some of its highlights.

‘Relationships are of a

high quality and

characterised by a

warm and purposeful

atmosphere and an

‘open door’ approach.’

‘School leaders strive

to nurture pupils who

are well prepared to

move on to the next

stages in their

education.

‘Skilled and experienced

Teaching Assistants provided

engaging intervention sessions

which were well matched to

pupils’ needs. Pupils showed

pride in their achievements

and progress.’

‘Pupils’ books showed

evidence of progress

since the beginning of

the school year and in

most books, tasks for

pupils with SEND had

been differentiated with

the use of writing frames

and prompts.’

‘Pupils talked with

enthusiasm about different

intervention sessions and

particularly enjoyed the

Social Club and the

opportunities to engage in

outdoor learning.’
