KU NEW PORT RICHEY CAMPUS NEWS WELCOME! A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT GIBBONS New and Returning Students, I am pleased to welcome you to 2021 and the Winter semester! I, and all of the faculty and staff here, believe there are great things ahead for you. As we reflect on last year there were many elements that we didn’t know we’d need to conquer. I am certain each of you experienced things in your individual lives that have made you grow, change, and adapt. There were victories and difficulties, mountain top moments and barriers and through it all you came out stronger. Through these variables you reflected a resilience in succeeding. Most importantly you made the life changing decision to prioritize your education here at Keiser University as a commitment to yourself. I want to encourage you to be diligent in that priority each day. Focus on your studies, dedicate your time, don’t let the unexpected moments of life change your course. Make the commitment and decision each day that you will complete what you have started. Believe in yourself because we certainly do! As we continue to welcome you in the modified format, we appreciate your continued diligence in maintaining social distancing and wearing your face covering. We’re glad you’re here and we’re looking forward to great things ahead, Mr. Gibbons, Campus President Winter Semester 2021 KEISER UNIVERSITY NEW PORT RICHEY NOTABLE NEWS Keiser University New Port Richey 6014 US Highway 19 North New Port Richey, FL 34652

KU NEW PORT RICHEY CAMPUS NEWS WELCOME!

A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT GIBBONS

New and Returning Students,

I am pleased to welcome you to 2021 and the Winter semester!

We’re glad you’re here and we’re looking forward to great things ahead,

Mr. Gibbons, Campus President

Registrar. We are thrilled to welcome her into her new position! Read on to learn a bit more about her-

• What is your philosophy of education? I believe that learning is a lifelongjourney, and I think it’s imperative to have an environment where studentscan grow to their full potential. It is my desire to create an atmosphere wherewe are able to communicate, understand, and show compassion.

• What helpful hints or information would you like our KU-NPR students toknow? Some helpful information is to take advantage of everything we offerhere at KU-NPR. A Note from Dean Yemi’s Desk Amazing KU-NPR Students!

First, I would like to extend congratulations to our wonderful students for your perseverance through 2020! You successfully completed your courses. Most importantly, I would like to say “Congratulations” to the students that graduated in 2020! Kudos to you for your success!

2021 is here. This is the year for success! I want to encourage each one of you to focus on your success this year. As you all know, success to us means that you graduate and start your career in your field of study!

Satya Nani states, “A little progress every day adds up to big results.” I want to encourage you to focus on working on your education daily. When you do this for an extended time, success will come your way.

Leadership was one of our 2020 themes on campus. In 2021, let’s apply the leadership lessons that we learned to make the year one of success! One of the great qualities of leadership is accountability. You can apply one of the 2020 leadership qualities by being your own manager and holding yourself accountable. Here are some tips to help you start—and end—the year strong:

• Create a personal mission statement. o Avoid losing track to what’s important, what you want, and your values.

• Set micro goals. o Part of long-term goals o Perform a single action

• Use lists wisely. o A to-do list can help you plan your day. o Try not to make it too long or poorly organized. That will defeat the purpose of the list. o An effective list is 5 items or fewer. o As you complete activities, you can add more.

• Hold yourself accountable. o Schedule time each week to reflect on what you have done so far. Ask yourself the following questions:

What did you accomplish? What didn’t you accomplish? What can you do better next week?

• Reward yourself. o Rewards can encourage us to work harder.

• Do one task at a time. o While easier said than done, focusing on one task at a time allows you to: focus more, complete tasks

faster, and be less distracted by interruptions. • Emphasize your strengths and improve your weaknesses

o Show off your strengths at every opportunity. o Look for ways to improve areas that you are weaker in.

• Value your time. o Maximize your productivity at work. o Maximize your personal time by turning off your cell phone or your laptop outside of work.

• Seek feedback. o You view yourself differently than others view you.

Don’t be afraid to ask for others’ opinions. Their suggestions might surprise and inspire you. • As Warren Buffett suggests, surround yourself with people that will push you. Here at Keiser University- New Port

Richey, our faculty members, program directors & deans are here to support you! Our doors are always open, and we truly want to see you be successful.

We closed out 2020 with the transformative experience of

the Greatness Leadership

Initiative.

Transformative Greatness truly took place through the Greatness Leadership Initiative as students, faculty, and staff took part in weekly seminars and actives to leverage 16 leadership principles and be equipped to apply them in a post pandemic world. Our on-campus initiatives were led by Champions, Dr. Newport and Dr. Abreu. Together they held pre-shows highlighting and engaging students, faculty, and staff in dialogue of transformation and change through various avenues. All stakeholders, through the Greatness Leadership Initiative, were taught to discover and challenged to use the 16 characteristics of true champions that leverage change in order to transform themselves and the world in a post-pandemic environment. We also welcomed leaders from Make-A Wish, Metropolitan Ministries, and Habitat for Humanity Pinellas and West Pasco to learn how they have led through the pandemic, ways that we can engage with their organizations and turn our leadership skills into action in our community.

Thank you Dr. Newport

and Dr. Abreu!
