On Monday morning I woke up. After that I woke up and went to have breakfast then went to brush my teeth. Later my Mum drove me to school. Arriving at school it was kind of a struggle carrying my luggage, but I managed carrying my luggage up and down the stairs. Then the coach driver put my luggage into the luggage compartment and boarded the coach.

On the bus it took a while until we left school. Year 7 left school at 9.50am on the coach I got really bored. Later on we arrived at the camp. When we arrived everybody collected their luggage. After that we moved into our tents, straight after that we went to lunch. After lunch we went to the campsite and got organised into our groups for camp. Later on my group was 1. Our first activity was the giant swing. My next activity was Lost Island. At Lost Island it was a bit frustrating because our group was talking too much. I had fun at this camp even though it was my second time going there. Nathan Yim 7B On Monday the 19th of May I woke up with an excited feeling. Finally I’m going to the ‘Great Aussie Bush Camp’. When I arrived school, all Year 7 were talking about the camp. We marked our rolls and we

got on the bus. When we got on the bus we had to wait ages to leave the school. On the way we had lot of junk foods like lollies and chocolates. I slept because I felt tired. When we finally arrived, we got off the buses and the first thing was finding our own bag. Second thing was we went to our camp sites, the third thing was having lunch! Our lunch was a hamburger with cordial.

The kitchen was called the rock, because it looks like a rock. Then we went to activities. I was in Group 6. Our first activity was survivor. Olivia Kang 7B The exciting day started when we arrived at school. Everyone was in the vibe we could not wait. The bus trip was long, but it was worth it. The first activity

when we arrived at the Great Aussie Bush Camp was the Lost Islands. This was a mud a activity and we were all freezing by the end of it. The food wasn’t’ great but we weren’t

there to eat – we were there to have fun, and fun we had. Other activities that we my favourites were high-ropes, the giant swing and

abseiling. Not only did we go outside our comfort zones and try new things we also made new friends and became closer to old friends. I was sad to go home but I knew my family were missing me. The camp experience was loads of fun and I enjoyed every minute of it. Lara Apollonov 7B On the 19th of May to the 22nd of May Year 7 went to the Great Aussie Bush Camp. The activities were brilliant with helpful leaders. You could go out of your comfort zone on the Giant Swing and go through obstacles in the mud challenge. Their

YEAR 7 REPORT Year 7 appear to be well and truly settled into the Carlo way of life and certainly all seemed to enjoy the recent Camp to Tea Gardens. Staff on the camp voted unanimously that the behaviour of those attending was outstanding and the staff were very impressed with the willingness of students to get their hands dirty and step outside their comfort zones. Of course these camps cannot go ahead without the support of staff attending and the support of the teachers who stay behind to cover their classes. Many thanks to Mr Erwin, Ms Leigh, Mr Morcomb, Ms Davidson, Ms Reynolds, Mr Cooper, Mr Waugh and Ms Zalawski for their willingness to assist on camp. An extra special thank you goes to Ms Reynolds who was pivotal in the organization of the camp whilst I was on leave at the end of last term. Below are a few photos from the camp courtesy of Winnie in 7P, and the words of the students themselves about the camp from a number of classes. Other students with photos may bring them to Ms Mullen in the Music Staffroom and I will put some on the Yr 7 intranet page for all to see !! Parents and students are reminded to regularly check the school intranet for information and notes concerning students, and their requirements in terms of notes, and information. Parents are also asked to remind their children about not sharing drink bottles as it encourages the spread of cold, glandular fever and other nasty diseases. Carlingford High has a no tolerance policy on the subject of bullying and we seek parents help in encouraging their children to develop tolerance and understanding of the differences we all have. food is never satisfactory. The camp is a great way to make friends and improving our team work. We’ve had the best disco ever. You will regret if you didn’t go. Leo Lee 7R On the first three days of week 3, most of the Year 7s attended the Aussie Bush Camp at Tea Gardens. Some of the activities we did were high ropes, kayaking, mud challenge, survivor, the giant swing and the craziest disco I’ve ever been to. The best activity in my opinion was the giant swing, we were harnessed and pulled up 15m from ground level at

180o . When we reached the top, we had to pull a string which made us fly down and swing above the creek. The pressure from the wind while being swung down was preventing me from screaming as I cannot open my mouth from the wind. Jiamei Liu Year 7 went to camp at Tea Gardens, Great Aussie Bush Camp on the 19th to the 21st of May. We left school at around 9.30 and arrived at about 12.00. The food at the camp was quite nice and we got fed a lot. The first day our lunch was hamburgers and cordial and the afternoon tea was snowcones. We slept in tents and had six bunk beds. During the night the top bunks got wet. The tents were a bit cold because the concrete floors were cold. The activities that we did were great.

I enjoyed the giant swing but it was very high. My group did the 15 metre swing and it was near the water. The Lost Island activity was cold but it was heaps of fun. I got so dirty and muddy. Ashlee Mcdonald 7R On the 20th of May, 2008 Year 7 went to the Great Aussie Bush Camp. Most of Year 7 had a ball. We did all sorts of fun activities including survivor, abseiling, giant swing, alpine rescue, kayaking, high ropes and the

activity that wasn’t so fun, the mud challenge. My favourite activity was alpine rescue because it was all about teamwork and everyone had a fair go at doing everything. No one could

really take over because if they did they ‘broke their arms’ or ‘lost their voice’. My least favourite activity was the mud challenge because the water was so cold, and so dirty as well as smelly, but after doing it I thought it was quite fun because I hadn’t done anything like it. The weather wasn’t so good but no one can do anything about it, anyway, the weather wasn’t so good at night, because it was freezing. The weather was great during the day though. Annika Linder 7R The Year 7 camp was a great camp as we visited the Great Aussie Bush Camp. We did a variety of activities which includes giant swing, abseiling, high ropes and more. The activities I like the best were

lost island, high ropes, giant swing and kayaking. I experienced lots of things that I’ve never thought about and I thought it was great fun. Zihao Xue 7R On the 19th of May Year 7 went to the Great Aussie Bush camp at Tea Gardens just a few minutes from Newcastle. The bus ride was pretty long but it was a new experience on the double decker bus. I was put into group 5 where I didn’t have many friends. We started off with abseiling which was pretty scary. It took a long time so we missed out on survivor. In the night we did commando which was really cool wandering in the bush. Nikhil Thirumani Year 7 travelled for three hours on a coach to Tea Gardens, near Newcastle. We stayed at the Great Aussie Bush Camp for three days and two nights. The activities were challenging, exciting and they got our adrenaline pumping. Every morning, we would wake up at 6.30am then travel to the Rock to eat. The night activities were all very fun,

we played

commando on the first night and a disco on the last night. But all of us would agree that we would all miss the leaders most. Zoe, Rachel, Harrison, Elena 7Y On Monday the 19th the Year 7s went on camp to the Great Aussie Bush Camp at Tea Gardens. We were all very excited when we got there and

everyone came home having an awesome time. The thing that I really enjoyed doing was the Giant Swing. When I first saw the swing it was HUGE! I was really nervous going on but thought I would give ait a try. Afterwards when I came off it was AWESOME! I was really proud of myself and would do it again any day. Rachel Tomc 7Y This year camp was heaps of FUN. There were so many activities such as: Giant Swing (my favourite) Abseiling, High ropes course and many team based activities. But at night you really needed to rug up. Ht was freezing!!! In the end, it was all worth it! Kaitlin Spensieri 7Y The disco was AWESOME!!!! I discovered I could actually dance. All my shyness just went away that night. I also saw some people dancing who I didn’t even realise that they could dance. Vivienne Dang 7Y The Great Aussie Bush Camp was awesome. Abseiling, Kayaking, Survivor, Lost Island, High Ropes, Commando. The food was yummy. Commando was cool, crawling through the mud. The disco was awesome, we danced and did breakdancing/freestyle. It was funny when Nick kept forgetting his mess kit. Mrs Reynolds got really muddy and stinky. LOL Everyone was awesome on the activities. Andrew Lingley 7V For all the meals. I enjoyed them all. It includes the burger, garlic bread, hot dog, cordial drink, cereal, eggs and many other things. I never got hungry, as I am sufficient all the times. The most brilliant facility was the GIANT Swing!!! I went all the way up to the top, and it was SEVENTEEN METRES HIGH!!!

Amy Kang 7V

Camp was fun but is bit cold at night. I like camp especially the giant swing. The dinners were yummy and the bush walk fun, but I always stepped into the mud.—Amy Ho 7V

DRAMA—MORE THAN JUST A PLAY Semester one has been a flurry of activity this year with classes studying Improvisation, Comedy, Commedia and film making, and for Yr 12 – Australian and American Texts. Those interested in some of the work we do in Drama might like to visit the school intranet and check out some of the activities we do – it is more than playing games and “acting” and the Drama intranet site was one of the first in the school to be up and running way back in 2003.

Year 10 Geography “clean up” at home! During terms 1 and 2, Year 10 Geogra- phy students have been investigating “Issues in Australian Environments”. To undertake this investigation, Year 10 visited Fairfield City Farm to find out about Land and Water Management. Prior to visiting the farm, students were given a model of a Research Action Plan which they used as an example for their own re-search on waste. During the Fairfield visit students

carried out a number of activities including field sketches, water testing and plant identification.

Following this modelling, Year 10 was then asked to complete their own Research Action Plan by investigating how much waste their household accumulates in one week. Most students attempted the task with enthusiasm, and the resultant fieldwork logs speak volumes about their dedication to this task. Students were then required to write an extended response

in relation to this field-work. Most students had a clear understanding of the task and having un-

dertaken the fieldwork them-

selves, they were able to write a clear and informative response. Well done Year 10. Australian environments will be better for your efforts! Lauraine Hill Social Science

Year 7 Technology Students Track Time! Year 7 Technology students have been producing aquarium themed clocks during Term 1 and 2. The production of the clocks has introduced the design process to these students. The design process includes: identify/analyse the design brief, research the brief, generate ideas to solve the brief, produce the solution to the brief and evaluate the solution to the brief. These students have also learnt a range of practical skills and processes. These have included shaping and manipulating acrylic sheet to their designed shapes. The tools these students have learned to use include the scroll saw, bobbin sander, disc sander, strip heater, coping saw, rule, tri square and pencil!

Konnichi Wa (hello) Japan I think is a really amazing country and I would love to go there, though I was able to have the greatest experience looking after a Japanese student and showing them around Sydney. Hi my name is Pia and I’m in Year 8. I got to look after a Japanese student for two and a half days. The student’s name was Runa she was really nice. I got to learn a few new words in Japanese like how to say brother, “ototo”, sister “ane” and mum “tsuma” and origami, a special Japanese paper folding technique. While Runa was over we took her to Luna park where we bumped the bumper cars, walked across the harbour Bridge seeing the amazing view and took her to Cumberland State Forest where we had a barbecue. She got to taste kangaroo sausages the first one in her life, which she did like. She was amazed getting to feel a few friendly kookaburras. We played games like checkers at home which RUna did like and especially enjoying feeding the rainbow lorikeets at home. Runa had great fun making bread and also eating it. Looking after a Japanese student for me was at time difficult though I did have a great time learning a different culture and language. In Japanese Sayonara (Good bye).
