Attention EMEs and Lectors: I
am going to attempt to run a
schedule for July. Please let me
know if you need any days off,
special requests, or any changes
to your serving status/
preferences by Tuesday June 30
and I will run the schedule on
Wednesday July1. I am planning
to manually place Lectors so that
I can continue to schedule them
in order of replies received. If
you are a Lector and have not
told me that you wish to be
scheduled, please call or email
me as soon as possible to get
your name in line to be
scheduled.
If you are commissioned as an
EME and would like to help out
with the 10:30 am masses please
let me know. I will need to
schedule about 8 EMEs to best
serve the people that attend
outdoor mass.
The Usher’s role during mass has
expanded these past weeks, we
always welcome men and women
to do help in this ministry. High
School or college students
looking for a way to help out with
mass, especially the outdoor
masses for 10:30 am, should

TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR A, JUNE 21, 2020
NEW ADAM
There is no profit in prophecy, in telling the truth about the real
bond between God and His people, except before God. God guards
and guides those who honestly follow the Messiah. With Him there
is no reason to give in to fear; we are worth more than hairs and
sparrows. Through Jesus—the Christ and the new Adam—we
receive divine grace. What more can we ask for or need? Sing to
the Lord and praise Him. Alleluia and amen! Text, Philip J. Sandstrom, STD © 2001, OCP. All rights reserved.

It is time to begin our 2021 Confirmation preparation with our upcoming 9th
graders. This week, we will be mailing information home to all 9th grade
parishioners who are eligible to be part of this year’s class. We look
forward to sharing the faith with these teens over the next year as they
prepare to be fully initiated members of the Catholic Church.
Our 2019-20 Confirmation class will tentatively be confirmed on Sunday,
October 25, at the 12:15 pm Mass by Bishop Marty Amos. The details and
any instructions will be provided at a later date. If you find that you have a
significant conflict with that date, please contact the Faith Formation Office
so that we can arrange an alternative date and location.
First Communion celebrations have been tentatively rescheduled to the
weekend of September 26 and 27. We will have one large group
celebration at 10:00 am on September 26. Families will also be able to
choose any Mass that weekend other than the 7:30 am Mass to celebrate
in a smaller group. Because the date is tentative and we do not yet know
what Mass will be like then, in terms of restrictions, we will wait until mid-
summer to ask families to choose a Mass. We plan to be very flexible with
that as much as restrictions allow. You will receive information on this at a
later date. If you feel strongly about your child celebrating sooner, you may
call Laura at 440.255.0600 or email [email protected] to request a
Mass during the summer. First Communion interviews were put on hold
during our stay at home time, and we will resume those this week for all
who still need to do so. If you are uncomfortable coming to the office, we
completely understand and will work with you. Please call Laura at
440.255.0600 or email [email protected] if this is the case.
PSR families, if you have not already done so, we ask you to register your
children as soon as possible. With so much uncertainty, it will be very
helpful to everyone if we have our students registered early to plan for the
possibilities. Our PSR program is for children in grades 1-8 who do not
attend a Catholic school, and typically meets weekly on Sunday morning.
Children who plan to receive First Communion are asked to participate in
1st and 2nd grade PSR, and 7th and 8th grade PSR is expected prior to
Confirmation in 9th grade. PSR registration form is available online at
sjvmentor.org. Please call the Faith Formation Office if you have any
questions at 440.255.0600 or email [email protected].
Thought for the week:
This weeks readings are rich with meaning, but at the heart of them is a
message we all need in these trying times: God loves us and takes care of
us no matter what. He will never leave us. This week, let’s try to remind
ourselves of that every morning when we wake and every evening before
we go to sleep! God bless!

"We need to participate for
the common good. Sometimes we hear: a good Catholic is not interested in politics. This is not true: good Catholics immerse themselves in politics by offering the best of themselves so that the leader can govern." Pope Francis
WHO AM I AND WHERE AM I? To the left are 4 pictures and on page 11 there are another 17. Each picture is that of an item on our property. See if you can list all 21 items and identify who or what it is and where it can be found on our property. Father Johns will give $100 to the person who gets them all right and is first to do so. Drop off your list at office with your name on it.

Dear Parishioners,
Above is a picture of the 2020 Ford Escape which
Classic Auto made available to us for the Summer
Raffle. You probably noticed it at the entrance to
our parking lot as you arrived for Mass today. As I
mentioned before, the winner of the raffle will be
announced on Sunday, July 12, and the grand
prize is $15,000 or a three year lease of the Ford
Escape. Second prize is $2,000 and third prize is
a 65” Samsung television. I appreciate the many
parishioners who continue to buy or sell their
share of raffle tickets. As I type this on
Wednesday, June 17, over $ 31,160.00 worth of
tickets have been sold already. Please do the
best you can to sell or buy your share of tickets or
even some additional tickets which are available in
the Parish Office. A successful raffle will help to
compensate for the anticipated financial loss due
to not having the Summer Festival this year. I am
exploring options of how to choose the winners in
our St. John Vianney Summer Raffle on July 12.
As you know, our governor has allowed most
places to gradually open up for business but has
required social distancing and a good plan for
sanitizing. I am grateful to the many people who
have been helping us over the last few weeks to
open up the church for the public celebration of
Masses. There are strict guidelines we have been
told to follow and I believe that we are doing fairly
well in following most of them carefully.
When we do live-stream Masses people do point
out where we may be falling short in following the
guidelines. We do try to address those concerns. I
know that I am one to not give the best example in
wearing the face mask consistently or keeping
social distance. Missing a lobe in my one lung
and having COPD makes it harder for me to wear
the mask for any length of time. Unfortunately my
hearing also is getting worse as I age and trying to
understand a person speaking with a mask on is
no easy thing for me. I often find myself struggling
to listen and pretending I heard each word they
said, often smiling and saying how nice to hear
that! The shocked look on their face is the
give-away that they just told me that someone
they loved has died or is having dangerous
surgery! To avoid saying something stupid or
inappropriate I tend to get closer to better figure
out what they are saying. So, with regard to
masks and social distancing, do as I say not as I
always do. Wear the mask and keep the social
distance!
Mass attendance has been fairly stable with about
200 people attending each of the two indoor
Masses and about 600 to 700 people attending
the outdoor Mass at 10:30 on Sunday. I can tell
that people enjoy the opportunity to celebrate
Mass outdoors and I think doing so helps people
to also feel more comfortable with the social
distance they are able to have. Hopefully the
weather will continue to cooperate so that we can
continue this practice throughout the summer and
fall. If and when Mass attendance increases (or
when the dispensation from the obligation to
attend Mass ceases) we will add an additional
Mass or two. As mentioned before, we will
continue to live-stream the 4:00 Saturday Mass.
The new filming system we ordered from Boxcast
did arrive this past week and I am grateful to the
families and individuals who offered to pay for it so
that we can have better quality live-streaming. I
am hoping that the system can be installed in the
coming weeks. When it does, I will let you know
how to access it in your homes.

On this Thursday, June 24, we will celebrate the
9th anniversary of the death of our founding
pastor, Father Robert Kline. Father was joined in
heaven by a good friend last week, on June 13,
when Sr. Anne McGreevy passed away at the
Mother House of the Benedictine Sisters of Erie
where she was in residence after retiring from the
field of education in 2008. Sister recently
celebrated her 70th anniversary as a vowed
monastic, and education was her forte for 58
years. Ten of those years were spent at All
Saints School where she served from 1977 to
1987 as the founding principal. Father Kline and
Sister Anne worked closely with a wonderful group
of parents to open the school on August 27, 1977.
When the school was dedicated a few weeks later
by the late Bishop James Hickey, he challenged
the students to live up to the motto of Sister
Anne’s Benedictine community: “ora et labora.”
He told them that it is through work and prayer that
challenges are met and overcome. Sister Anne
has lived a life of prayer and hard work for many
years. May she and Father Kline enjoy the
rewards of their labors.
Speaking of All Saints, remember that the
Farewell Mass for Sister Veronica and Mrs. Terri
Armelli, long-time teachers and administrators at
All Saints, will take place a week from today, on
Sunday, June 28, at the 10:30 Mass. Pray for
good weather so that we can celebrate this Mass
outdoors where we will have plenty of room for
people to spread out and keep social distance.
Feel free to decorate your cars for the parade or
drive-by for Sister and Terri which will take place
as you exit the parking lot after Mass. Sister
Veronica is also a member of the Benedictine
Community in Erie, PA. She will take up
residence at the Mother House where Sr. Anne
lived later this summer. Please keep Terri and
Sister Veronica in your prayers as they begin their
well-deserved retirement from the field of
education. Please also keep Father Morris in your
prayers on June 28 when he celebrates his 31st
birthday. Keep all the priests you know in your
prayers this weekend as we celebrate “Father’s
Day!” Pray for your own fathers, grandfathers,
godfathers, and your spiritual fathers
Weekday Masses continue to take place in the
church on Monday through Friday at 8:00 am.
The Mass is still live-streamed for those who wish
to watch Mass from their homes. Thank you
again for all the financial and prayerful support
you give to the parish and all of us on the Staff!

ALL SAINTS SCHOOL OF SAINT JOHN VIANNEY
We Will Miss You! - It is with mixed feelings that we announce that Sister Veronica and Mrs. Mary Rainey will
be retiring, and Mrs. Megan Cooper and Mr. Dan MacGregor will not be returning to All Saints. Sr. Veronica has
taught at All Saints for 36 years. Among her "duties" were: welcoming the children as they entered the building
every morning, teaching Religion to the Junior High students every day, teaching Religion to the children in
grades K-5 once a week, supervising lunch for the children in Grades 3-8, choir director, and car dismissal
supervisor. Sister also planned and prepared all of the children for the Masses and Paraliturgies. She has been
an inspiration to everyone and will be truly missed. The room in which Sister Veronica taught is being named the
Sister Veronica Room. Mary Rainey has taught at All Saints for seventeen years. Her love of children was
shown every day through the calm, patient, caring way that she treated every child. Her hands-on activities,
including making lemonade and bread, made learning fun. She was a wonderful example to our younger
teachers. Mrs. Rainey received this year’s Father Kline Excellence in Education Award. Dan MacGregor taught
Latin for four years to our children in Grades 4-8. He shared his love for Latin history and enthusiasm for the
language with his students. Mr. MacGregor also the coordinated the Junior High Robotics Club. This was the
first year Megan Cooper taught at our school. She had a wonderful rapport with her 5th grade students, and
she was a delight to work with on the faculty. Mrs. Cooper will be teaching at St. Mary’s Chardon which is closer
to her home. On a personal note I would like to thank Miss Joan Agresta. She came out of her delightful
retirement to help me this year. We worked so well together - she was a Godsend! May God bless them
and their families with good health and many happy years! Good luck on your new journey in your life!
I would like to thank everyone in the St. John Vianney community for their constant prayers and support. From
Father Johns and the priests, to the staff, and parishioners you have been a joy to work with and I appreciate all
that you have done for me and our school. I have been in Catholic Education for 36 years, 24 of which were at
All Saints School. I have been honored to be the principal for the four past years. It has been my greatest joy and
I will miss all of you. May God always bless you! ~ Terri

Happy Father’s Day – Dear God, Thank you for the gift of our dads who have be our inspiration through their
love and dedication. Just as you sent your Son to show the world your love, we pray that you will send your Spirit
upon our dads that they may be strengthened as they strive to guide and support their family. We also pray for
our dads who are no longer with us. Keep their memories close to our hearts. Amen.
