Dear Friends and Neighbors in Christ,

“So Ahab sent to all the Israelites, and assembled the prophets at Mount Carmel. Elijah then came near to all the people,

and said, ‘How long will you go limping with two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.’”

-I Kings 18:20-21, NRSV-

For thousands of years the people of Israel and the people of the church have been confronted with choosing the Lord God or other gods! Joshua said, “as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15) Recently, we were blessed by our school’s production “Elijah Rock”, and now Pastor Alex and I continue to present this choice as we share the preaching series, “Days of Elijah”.

Jesus himself said, “You cannot serve God and wealth.” (Matthew 6:24)!! As early 21st Century believers, we continue to struggle with the material, messy, monetary gods of our time. This mess can only be turned into a message of Good News if we realize the consistent either/or choice offered to us in Scripture.

Throughout the month of June, don’t miss our “corporate, dynamic worship”- traditional and contemporary- where this prophetic word will be heard through the stories of Elijah. Also, don’t miss our VBS/Youth Sunday (23rd) which culminates our week of “Fun Fair”. Our Holy Spirit prayer for this month is “Come on…light my fire!!!”

Yours in Christ, Pastor Bob

UNITED METHODIST MEN’S MATTERS At the May UMM fellowship supper, men who minister in various ways to our congregation and community gath-ered to hear Alice Williams, our district lay leader, share an inspiring message with them and their wives about Lydia and the church at Philippi. Afterwards, it was suggested during our business session that we need to do more to let the congregation know that we have a team of men who head up helping people in our congregation with special needs. If you want to be part of that service effort or you have a special need to be assisted with “muscle” or “fixer-upper” skills, our men are looking for opportunities to help people who cannot otherwise help themselves. So far, our men have helped elderly members with around-the-house maintenance, moved folks to Good Samaritan Vil-lage, etc. Ken Smith coordinates our church community men to address these needs. Our program for the June 4th meeting will be a work session to determine goals of our men’s ministry for the fu-ture. Our meetings offer men who seek to serve the church in varied ways and opportunity to fellowship, grow spir-itually, and to work together to serve. Whether you have missed a few meetings or are taking the plunged for the first time, you are urged to join us on the first Tuesday of each month for our 6:30 PM dinner meeting. God has giv-en you something to share with other men and with those we serve. Come find how you might serve and to be served by your United Methodist Brothers. If transportation is an issue, please let me know. Child Care is available, as well as transportation. Even if you missed the last meeting, you have worthwhile input to share, so we hope you’ll join us for our next meeting on June 4th. The Centennial Celebration of our church sanctuary is being planned and supported by many of our United Method-ist Men’s fellowship. Because we will be focusing on the event, our July fellowship dinner is cancelled. Men are needed and volunteering to help cook the meal; setup and teardown of tables, chairs, etc.; assist with decorating and undecorating; greeting / hospitality ; serve popcorn and snokone (snow cone); assist with Cakewalk, pie con-tests, and supervise 3 legged race and other games; be van drivers. Of course, we’ll be working alongside many women in our congregation to make this event a success. If you have not already volunteered, don’t wait until the July 4th event: volunteer now! Contact Dwight Oakes. It was also determined to move our August fellowship dinner meeting to the Foundation of Osceola Education meeting on Monday, August 12th, at 5:30 PM. We’ll learn about the needs and opportunities of the foundation and our community. So mark your calendar concerning all the variations to our regular schedule during these summer months. We hope each man can participate in these varied opportunities and needs. Your Brother in Christ, Mark Johnson UMM President

The PreK 3’s enjoyed a wonderful Mother’s Day Tea with their mom’s on May 9th & 10th. The children made place-mats and made their moms a hot pad with their handprint on it. They sang to their moms and enjoyed a wonder brunch. On May 10th, the children in the childcare portable shared breakfast with their moms before they headed off to work. We had a great turn out and the moms enjoyed having that time with

The Aftercare children planted a bean garden in between the Fellowship Hall and Education Building. This project was led by Mr. Fisher, Ms. Chris, & Ms. Marjean. The children grew the beans indoors first and then transplanted them in-to the garden. They will be taking care of them.

We are gearing up for summer. We have many fun things planned for the PreK and Elementary.

The elementary will be taking field trips to the movies, library, , Abracadabra Ice Cream, Holy Land Experience, Gatorland. We will have some fun and interesting in
