Twenty nine vendors are participating this year with twenty three vendors on Thursday after- noons and twenty vendors on Satur- day mornings. Most of the vendors are returning from last year but we are super excited to be adding eight new vendors. Five are farms, each very different. One is a winery and two are bakers, one of cupcakes and the other of dog treats. Buhrmaster Family Farm is a large local grower well known in the area with fruits and vegetables. We are happy to add them to the market as they will expand the vari- ety of vegetables that are available throughout the season. Buhrmaster Family Farm is a Saturday vendor. Quincy Farm is a vegetable farm in Easton, NY that is protected by an agricultural easement held by the Agricultural Stewardship Associa- tion in nearby Greenwich, which ensures it will forever remain viable farmland. They use organic methods to grow a wide variety of vegetables and are looking forward to establish- ing a CSA in 2012. Quincy Farm will be coming on Thursdays, but maybe not every Thursday. 3 Dogs Barking Farm is a new farm in Gansevoort, NY that will be special- izing in baby and heirloom vegeta- bles, look for them a little later in the season on Saturdays. Full Quiver Farm from Fort Plain, NY grows or- ganic vegetables with a focus on greens of all types, heirloom and specialty varieties. They also have sprouted nuts, seeds and beans, eggs, pastured poultry, olive-based soaps, beeswax based lip-balm and stone ground flours made from certi- fied organic local grains. Full Quiver Farm will only be at the market on Thursdays. Adirondack Flower Farm is a family owned and operated farm in Granville, NY growing specialty cut flowers using sustainable prac- tices. They have flowers with brighter colors and more fragrance. The flower offerings change through the season. They will be selling by the stem, by the bunch and also mixed bouquets. They also produce lavender on the farm and offer dried lavender, lavender buds, ground lavender and various lavender sea- sonings and spices. The family also operates a 2500 tap Sugar Bush and produces New York Maple Syrup and maple added value products such as maple sugar, maple pepper, maple cream and various maple can- dies. Adirondack Flower Farm will only be at the market on Saturdays. Altamont Vineyard and Winery grows 12 acres of wine- producing grapes. The grapes are hand harvested, crushed and fer- mented on site. The majority of their wine varieties are produced from those grapes but they also produce a few varieties from grapes grown in the Finger Lakes region on NY. Look for the Winery on Thursdays. Every town may have a Mexican restaurant, but only Ballston Spa has a Loca Luna. “Are You

Experienced?” is the motto, hoping to offer a completely different dining destination to

Capital region residents. Restaurateurs Rebecca and Michael Kane sought to open a place

that made you feel like you were on vacation. Especially in these times people are seeking

to stay closer to home, Loca Luna is conveniently located in the heart of Saratoga County,

just off Route 50 in Ballston Spa, and provides a hub for friends to gather and the best of

the best local artists to mingle and showcase their work.

In celebration of its namesake, Loca Luna will host Full Moon Extravaganzas each month, right on the night of the full

moon. These celebrations will feature local art, music and talent along with great food and drink specials. As a friend to

local charity, Loca Luna announces ‘Doing Our Part Through Art’ and ‘Cheers To Charity’ two programs specifically de-

signed to benefit local organization floydwarriors.com ‘Helping families Cope With Cancer, One Household at a Time’.

Serving traditional Mexican cuisine ‘with a twist’, Loca Luna prides itself on serving everything fresh daily. From meats

purchased from Sanders Meat Market, to its homemade soups, salsas, and sauces, Loca Luna’s claim to fame is “The

only thing frozen here are the Margaritas!”

Please join us for The Full Moon Extravaganza on Wednesday, June 15th and come Saturday June 18th to celebrate

Loca Luna’s official Grande Opening Celebration. Festivities begin at 4pm and will feature Face Art by makeup artist

Kyle Garcia for the young and young at heart, live entertainment, local artisans & food and drink specials. Loca Luna is

located at 388 Milton Ave Ballston Spa, NY and may be visited online at www.localunamexicangrille.com If you’re inter-

ested in selling your art please contact Rebecca by calling Loca Luna at (518) 490-2073. Reservations are great idea.

Perennial Sale Canceled

The BSBPA has canceled this year’s perennial sale, tra-ditionally held on Garage Sale weekend at Brookside Museum. We look forward to this sale every year but the work involved in the sale and lack of volunteers just made it impossible to do this year. Our hopes are we may do it again in the future.

Bull Dog Farms, who has always provided the annuals and vegetables for this sale, will be at the Farmers’ Market that day with these, along with a selection of perennials.

Staying Open Late For Summer Events Staying Open Late For Summer Events Staying Open Late For Summer Events Staying Open Late For Summer Events ----Daniel DeFabio, BSBPA President

Summers are always busy in the village. The BSBPA puts on a lot of free events to draw crowds into town. Most of these happen on evenings or weekends. Some of our businesses might not normally be open at those times and would miss out on the potential customers walking past their doors. I under-stand it's difficult to set a new schedule and shift staffing around but if it is possible to be open during these events, I think you'll find it worthwhile. Here are some upcoming dates to keep in mind:

Thursdays 3-6pm: Farmers' Market followed by Concerts in the Park from 6-8pm. On June 23rd the concert will be Ra Ra Riot and promoted on the radio by WEQX so there may be an extra large crowd. First Fridays: Many businesses already stay open till 9 pm on First Fridays but from June-October, First Fridays include a free Movie in The Park starting at 9pm until about 10:30 pm. Saturdays 9am - noon: Farmer's Market including musical performers. And looking out to October, on the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend, The Way We Were Car Show brings several hundred people to the village streets. Many stay over four hours and get hungry. So if capturing some additional customer traffic outside your normal hours works for you, consider staying open dur-ing and just after these events.

Let Us Promote Your Business at Our Events and in New Member Packets

Once again, the summer season is upon us and that means the BSBPA table will be set up at our popular summer events--the out-door Farmers' Market on Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings from June 9-September 29, the free Concerts in the Park se-ries on Thursday evenings from June 23-August 25, and the Ballston Spa Film Festival, August 4,5 and 6. As a benefit of BSBPA membership, we welcome you to promote your business or organization with flyers, brochures, menus or business cards to display on the BSBPA table at these very well attended events, which draw not only local residents, but people from outside the commu-nity. There is no charge to you, all you need to do is provide us with your promotional material.

Additionally, the membership committee is looking for coupons and special offer flyers from our member businesses to include in the welcome packets that are delivered to all new BSBPA mem-bers. This is a great way to expand awareness of your business and encourage new BSBPA members to check out your shop, restaurant or service. The easiest way for you to do this is to have something we can reproduce, such as a sheet of coupons or promotional offers that the membership committee can reprint and clip when they need additional copies, rather than having to ask the businesses for new items each time they run out.

If you are interested in either or both of these opportunities, you may drop off your material with Corina Oberai at Corina Contemporary Jewelry/ Happy Hands, 89-91 Milton Avenue. Please indicate which one (BSBPA table or new member packets) you would like your items to go to.

Any questions, please feel free to contact Corina at [email protected] or 885-0930 or Ellen at the BSBPA office.

The Great Race Comes to Saratoga

The Great Race, America’s premier old car rally, is coming to Saratoga

Springs Thursday, June 16, and is expected to bring up to 100 antique

automobiles to the city. The overnight stop will be marked by a public

event at the Saratoga Automobile Museum to mark their arrival in the

Spa city, one of America’s premier vacation destinations.

The 2011 event starts in Chattanooga, TN and finishes in Ben-

nington, VT. Run from coast to coast, it is not a speed race, but a time/

speed/distance rally. The driver and navigator are given precise in-

structions each day that detail every move down to the second, then

scored at secret check points along the way and penalized one second

for each second either early or late. As in golf, the lowest score wins.

The biggest part of the challenge, other than staying on time and following the instructions, is get-

ting an old car to the finish line each day. The first car is expected to arrive at the Saratoga Automo-

bile Museum, located in the scenic Saratoga Spa State Park, around 5 p.m., with cars continuing to

arrive each minute for an hour and a half. The cars will remain parked for two hours to allow specta-

tors to visit with the participants and to look at the cars. Participating cars range in age from 1911

to 1969, with most having been manufactured before World War II. For the first time, a 100-year-old

car, a 1911 Velie owned by Howard and Doug Sharp of Fairport, N.Y, will participate in the race.

The Great Race was started in 1983 and takes its name from the 1965 movie, The Great Race, a

comedy based on the real life 1908 automobile race from New York to Paris starring Tony Curtis,

Jack Lemmon, Natalie Wood and Peter Falk.

The auto museum will not be open to the public during the event, with participants expected to

move to their downtown hotel at approximately 8:30 pm.

Summer Feeding Program

The First Baptist Church of Ballston Spa (FBC) is working to implement a Summer Feeding Program for the many children in need who currently reside in the Village of Ballston Spa. The FBC recognizes that a significant number of Village children who benefit from meals provided through the school dis-trict may experience hunger during the summer months. The FBC plans to provide two meals a week during the months of July and August to these Vil-lage children. The FBC will provide meals on-site, at 202 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa, NY.

The Summer Feeding Program will feed up to 50 Village children under the age of 18 on each Mon-day and Thursday during the months of July and August. Meals will be served between 11:00 and 12:30 a.m. at The First Baptist Church of Ballston Spa (FBC). The FBC will provide 4-5 volunteers to distribute food, maintain attendance records, and supervise children. The FBC feeding site will always staff a volunteer trained in CPR and Choking Res-cue. All volunteers will be familiar with and subject to the FBC Child Protection Policy. Appropriate per-mission forms will be signed by parents prior to children entering the program. The Summer Feed-ing Program will utilize cash contributions from FBC members and community organizations. The

Program staff will consist of volunteers from FBC.

For more information on how you can help with this important program, contact Rev. Alan Rudnick at pastor@fbcballstonspa or call first Baptist Church at 885-8361.
