TRANSCRIPT
Discipleship to Jesus Over the past several months in the newsletter, I've written about discipleship. The term is loaded. What is discipleship? What does it mean to be a disciple? In particular, what does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus in the 21st Century? For some of you, that last question sounds a little too Buck Rogers. For others, you're not sure even how to answer that question. For all of us, it is absolutely essential to un-derstand what it means to be Jesus' disciple. In simplest terms, a disciple is a learner. In the ancient world, a disciple followed a par-ticular teacher. For the Greeks, this was a philosophy. For the Jews, this was a per-son...specifically, a rabbi. To be a disciple meant one had access and proximity to the teaching either through writing or relationship. Jesus was a different kind of disciple maker. Jesus didn’t operate a formal school, but his disciples took quite a course. He didn't es-tablish a course of study, but he did leave a way of life. In that way of life was good news. For centuries, Christianity has sought to institutionalize and program the way of Jesus into a set of statements and propositions; but the way of Jesus isn't to be left on paper or stuck in precise words...the way of Jesus is meant to be lived! Over the course of the summer, I want to share four key foundations to living as a disci-ple to Jesus in the 21st Century. Before we get to those pillars or foundations, consider these questions: 1. What does it mean to me to be a disciple? 2. Do I consider myself a disciple or would I describe how I relate to Jesus with a different term or phrase? 3. Why should I be a disciple if I am not one? 4. What is keeping me from being a disciple to Jesus today? Glad to be your pastor,
Jeremy

PURLS TO THE
WORLD
Purls to the World is a ministry of Magnolia Baptist Church. We knit, crochet and sew various items for a variety of organizations. We have members who can do the work, but need yarn, specifically, Caron's Simply Soft or Bernat's Softee Baby. Also useful is Lion Brand's Pound of Love. If buying yarn seems overwhelming, we can also use gift cards from Michaels or Joann Fabrics. To see some of the things we donated, check out our Purls to the World Group on Facebook.
The next meeting will be Sunday, July 14 at 11 am in room 422, upstairs in the Sanctuary. If you have any questions you can contact Nancy Brown or Valerie Pugsley.
LADIES’ MONDAY MORNING
BIBLE STUDY
Overflow Room 9:30 am to 11:30 am
TWO NEW STUDIES BEGIN JULY 1ST
The first study is called Moving From Fear to Freedom. This 10-chapter book study will show you biblical ways to address fears. When you bring your fears to God, you will be free to connect others with the
Gospel. Move beyond fear of rejection, change, and inadequacy to the freedom found in Jesus Christ.
The second study is a 12-week study of the Book of Mark. This verse-by-verse study is a powerful look at the life of Jesus. Mark’s action-packed Gospel tells the story of One who found great value and satisfaction in serving—Jesus Christ, God’s perfect servant. Contact Mary Samp at 714 826-8671 or Mary Steenbergen at 714 996-8736 to order your books.

THANK YOU EVERYONE
Hi MBC,
I don't know that I will ever be able to get to everyone of you individually, but I wanted to say how much your love and support has meant to me and the family (as I know it did to Joni as well.) Your outpouring of card and letters were each read and the heartfelt sentiments expressed there received. Your presence was like a big giant hug, at Joni's graveside service on Saturday and Sunday nights time of worship and remembrance. (even a hug from Pastor Chuck :o) It has been a tough season of life, but going though it with friends and family like you has made the rough road a bit smoother. Your countless prayers, meals and help made the hard things doable. You have truly been the hands and feet of Jesus as you reached out to care and comfort us. And the sharing and laughter have been the greatest encouragement and testimony of God's love for Joni and me. Ten thousand reasons for my heart to sing. Gary, Shawnacy and Casey
