На початку серпня уряд Австралії проводитиме Перепис населення. Метою Перепису є збір статистичних даних про громадян країни. Зокрема про їх походження та релігійну приналежність. Союз Українських Організацій Австралії закликає австралійців українського походження скористатися можливістю в цифрах окреслити українську спільноту в державній статистиці Австралії. В анкеті перепису (Household Form) кожен власник нерухомості подає дані стосовно осіб, які на момент перепису проживають за даною адресою. У цій графі анкети можна подати дані шести осіб. Анкету перепису можна заповняти електронно - online або звернутися до відділу статистики, щоб отримати анкету поштою за вашою адресою. В анкеті є кілька запитань, які мають важливе значення для статистики про українську спільноту в Австралії: країна народження, володіння мовою, крім англійської, етнічне походження, віросповідання. Якщо ви бажаєте бути включеним до статистики про українську спільноту в Австралії, СУОА рекомендує заповнювати Анкету наступним чином: ЗАПИТАННЯ 16: Чи дана особа розмовляє вдома іншою мовою, крім англійської? IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING 2016 CENSUS - MAKE THE UKRAINIAN MARK IN THE 2016 CENSUS

Counting Ukrainian Catholics in the 2016 Australian Census The 2016 Census will be conducted in Tuesday August 9, 2016. The ensure Ukrainians in Australia are correctly represented in National data collection it is imperative that all those of Ukrainian background or having connections with Ukrainians through marriage carefully consider the responses as outlined below. The Census needs to be completed electronically or if you do have access to a computer you will need to request a Census form to be delivered to your home. The Australian Bureau of Statistics will provide the required information to each house-hold. The religion question in the Census provides tick-box response categories for the major religious groups such as Catholic, Angli-can, Buddhism, etc. However, ABS also makes provision for counting the members of religious groups with small populations. For this to happen, adherents need to write in the name of their religious group instead of ticking one of the boxes. So that the Eparchy can obtain population statistics from the Cen-sus about the Ukrainian Catholic population, Ukrainian Catholics need to be advised about how they should complete the Census form. Its recommend you complete the Census so as to bring about the best result for the Ukrainian Catholic community. Because some people may be upset at being asked not to mark the box labelled ‘Catholic’ on the Census form, it is important to point out that it is only by following the procedure described on the accompany-ing document that Ukrainian Catholics can be counted separately in the Census. People need to know that if they mark the box labelled ‘Catholic’, they will be assumed to be Latin Rite Catholics.

Praying the Gospel Lectio Divina

Here is a new set of instructions for praying the Scrip-tures using the Lectio Divina method. They have been collated by Jesuit Fr James Martin Read, Think, Pray, Act "Lectio Divina" in Four Easy Steps By: James Martin, SJ A Simple Approach. Lectio divina is a way of encoun-tering God through Scripture—normally, by taking a specific passage from the Bible as the basis for this prayer. 1. Reading: What does the text say? First, you read the text. At the most basic level, you ask: What is going on in this Bible passage? Sometimes a Bible commentary is helpful to enable you to better understand the context. 2. Meditation : What is God saying to me through the text? At this point, you ask whether there is something

that God might want to reveal to you through this pas-sage. Often, it might connect with something in your life. 3. Prayer: What do I want to say to God about the text? After meditating on this passage, you might find your-self fearful of what you feel called to do. If it means standing up for someone who has been mistreated, or even standing up for yourself, this might frighten you. You might worry about being rejected as Jesus was. You might even fear being rejected by those close to you, as Jesus was in his hometown. 4. Action: What do I want to do, based on my prayer? Finally, you act. Prayer should move us to action, even if it simply makes us want to be more compassionate and faithful. Sunday, 24th July 2016 Matthew 8:28-9:1

Reflection Matthew’s rather scaled down account of the two demon-possessed individuals highlights the authority of Jesus, whom the demoniacs acknowledge as the Son of God come to overthrow them. The destructiveness of the demons is apparent in their inducing those they possess to live in the abode of the dead (the tombs) and in driving the pigs they later infest headlong into the sea. Their protest that Jesus is “tormenting” them “before the time” reflects a sense that in his presence the rule of God is already beginning to break their destructive hold upon human lives. Sadly, the people of the locality, more comfortable, it would seem, with the ferocity of the demoniacs than with a display of divine power, beg Jesus to leave their neighbourhood.

Monday 25th July Matthew 13: 10-23

Reflection The issue of unbelief breaks into this sequence in the shape of a reflection on Jesus’ reason for speaking in para-bles. The disciples “it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven,” that is, the mysterious way, not anticipated in conventional expectation, in which God’s rule is coming to effect in the world. Disciple-ship and understanding go hand in hand. Without the commitment that responding to Jesus’ call involves, under-standing will be lacking, and hence ability to grasp “the mysteries of the kingdom.”

Tuesday 26th July Matthew 13:24-30

Reflection This parable retains its own independent meaning. Unlike religious zealots down the ages, God is not inclined to root out evil so ruthlessly that good is also supressed and much greater evil caused. God knows that good and evil in human hearts often stem from the same prior disposition; go in and root out the one and the capacity for the other may also be ruined. Better to give grace time to work its victory subtly. Then what has been wounded and hindered by evil will not be crushed, but rescued and transformed for life.

Wednesday 27th July

Matthew 13:31-36a Reflection The contrast between humble beginnings and extraordinary outcome is central to the parable of the yeast. It has

been calculated that the “three measures,” when leavened and baked, would feed a hundred people. So once again,

to capture the imagination, the parable recounts a fantastic outcome. But the point lies not simply in the contrast

between beginning and end but in the yeast’s power. Going about its work silently and unobtrusively, it produces

a result quite out of proportion to its size. The image addresses the way Jesus has been going about his messianic

ministry: not as the warrior Messiah sweeping all before him, but as “meek and humble of heart” and fulfilling the

role of the servant who does not “wrangle or cry aloud,” and does not “break a bruised reed or quench a smoulder-

ing wick.”

Matthew 13:36b-43 Reflection Each of these short parables captures the essence of Christian spirituality.

Christian life involves detachment: freedom from absorption in the attrac-

tions, pleasures and concerns of this world—not because these are bad in

themselves but because believers have been caught by a vision of God’s love

and God’s future that simply relativizes all these things and puts them in their

place. They may not yet possess the treasure, but its hope and prospect is al-

ready working transformation.

Friday 29th July

Matthew 13:44-54a Reflection The parable of the dragnet aptly holds together, within the same “present/future” tension, two further truths about

the kingdom. (1) God’s grace is a great “net” thrown over all, good and bad alike; you don’t have to be good to be

grasped by the kingdom and come within its scope. (2) Once one is within, however, conversion is required: those

who over time do not respond positively to God’s generosity will find themselves cast out, as fishermen throw

away bad fish.

Saturday 30th July Matthew 9:18-26

Reflection How many parents down the ages, grieving for lost children, have heard or read this account and felt acutely the

absence of Jesus and his power when their child died? There is no simple answer, and pastoral sensitivity requires

great sensitivity requires great caution. One may simply observe that by so echoing the language of resurrection

Matthew has made the story of this particular raising symbolic of a wider hope. Jesus’ own experience of death

has not abolished death, but his resurrection means death does not have the last word. Relationship with God—

and within that, all other relationships—transcends the barrier of physical death and lives on in eternal life.

Each person's presence and contributions are important and vital. We still need to vote for a President and Secretary and to discus dates for a future luncheon.
