The above incident is indicative of the undesirable human attribute of over

confidence. On the same lines Maya makes us feel confident about our

interactionswithher.Astimegoesby,we becomeadequatelyconvincedabout

ourskilltodealwithMaya.Maya,interestinglyallowsus todefineourownrules

and play with her, as if teasing us repeatedly to indulge in her. Once we are

sufficiently off guard, Maya presents her real form, that of an insurmountable

ogresstous.WhenwewonderWhereisthebeautifuldamselwhomademefeel

sogoodsometimeback?TheogresswouldreplyThatwasactuallyme,Maya

andnowyouarejustreadytobedevouredbymeThatswhatisMaya,That

whichisnot!.ThusoneshouldlearnnottoindulgeinMayamorethankneelevel

elseonewouldbeinrealtrouble.

RupaandSanatanaopenedtheirheartstoLordChaitanyaMahaprabhu.Theytell

theLordthattheyhadbeencheatingtheworldandalsothemselvesallthiswhile.

AlthoughtheywouldrenderservicesoftheSrimadBhagavathambyinvitinghigh

classBrahmanasand giveawayhugedonations, theywere howeveremployed

withNawab HusseinShah who was a repository ofall the demoniac qualities.

Theirmundane dealings included causing harm to people, forcefully collecting

taxesandahostofunpardonablesins,whichtheyhadcommittedknowinglyand

unknowingly.Theyfelt thatthemagnitudeoftheirsinswassohigh thattheydid

not deserve pardon. Their spiritual life and their mundane dealings did not

reconcileandthiswastheirdilemma.BeittheoceanorbeitMaya,ifonegets

engulfed in oneof them,noamountof personal expertiseorwit can save the

individual;helpneedstoreachhimfromtheoutsidetosalvagehim.Rupaand

Sanatanabelievedthattoelevatethemfromtheirfallencondition,therewasnone

otherthanSriChaitanyaMahaprabhuwhocoulddoit.TheyrequestedtheLordto

uplift themand therebyestablishHissupremacyin thethreeworlds.Lookingat

theexampleofRupaandSanatana,onecangaugetheextentoftheirhumility.

RupaandSanatanacitetheexampleofthedwarfwhotriedtosethisfootonthe

moon.Althoughpossibilityofthisdesirebeingfulfilledisanimpossibility,itisvery

muchpossiblethatthemooncanbathethedwarfwithitsmoonlight.Thishappens

withthemercyofthemoononly.OnsimilargroundsalthoughRupaandSanatana

were analogous to that dwarf who tried to scale the moon , Lord Chaitanya

Mahaprabhuwho was analogous to themoon could stillshowerHis causeless

mercyanalogoustothemoonlightonthetwobrothersandthussavethemfrom

perennialdoom.

Hearing the extremely humble prayers of the two brothers, Sri Chaitanya

MahaprabhuproclaimedthatHewouldinitiatethetwobrothersonthatveryday.After initiating the two brothers,RupaandSanatana,ashismaiden sermon to

them,theLordaskedthetwobrotherstorelinquishtheiroverladenhumility.Itis

oftenseenthatinourownspiritualliveswehavebeenwarnedagainstfalsepride

andinspiteofourefforts,falseprideraisesitsuglyhead.Inthiscase theLord

advicesthetwobrothersonjustthereversethatistogiveuphumility.Onecan

thusestimatethelevelofhumilityofthetworoyalbrothers.TheLordexclaimed

that seeing the humble nature of Rupa and Sanatana, His heart melted and

emotionsofecstasyemergedonHisdivineform.TheLordsaidIhavecometo

Ramkeliespeciallytoseeyoubothandtosalvageyou.Youbothhavebeenmy

eternalservantsanditisonlynowthatwehavemetinthisparticulararrangement.

YouwouldbeelevatedandupliftedbyLordKrishnaandthereisnodoubtabout

this.In this way Rupa and Sanatana were blessed by the Supreme Lord Sri

ChaitanyaMahaprabhu.AftertheirdeliverancebytheLord,RupaandSanatana

wentback to the court of theNawabmuch relieved.SriChaitanyaMahaprabhu

decidedtoproceedtowardsVrindavanafromKanaeNatashala.

When theLordresumedhisonward journey fromKanaeNatashala,He realized

thathewas being copiously followed byasea ofhumanity.On theirmeeting ,

SanatanahadwarnedtheLordtogotoVrindavanaalonebecause,theholyland

ofVrindavanashouldbeenteredbypeoplewhoaredeservingandtakingmany

people to the place isnot onlygoodfor Vrindavanabut alsowas notgood for

people who were not the right candidates to enter Vrindavana. Sri Chaitanya

Mahaprabhu concluded that it would not be appropriate for him to enter

Vrindavana from Kanae Natashala because He was being followed by a real

throng.EnteringintoVrindavanawithsomanypeoplecouldspelldoom.HenceSri

ChaitanyaMahaprabhucalledoffhistourtoVrindavanaandreturnedtoPurifrom

KanaeNatashala.RupaandSanatana,afterresumingtheirpositionsinthecourt

oftheNawabwerebusierinconductingYagyasandsacrificesandwerehardly

seen in the courtattending to theirmundane duties.Theway the two brothers

conducted the sacrifice was markedly notable. They had appointed two

Brahmanastoperformthesesacrifices.TheBrahmanaswereinstructedthusthat

thesacrificesshouldbeconductedsolavishlythatalltheiraccumulatedwealthgot

consumed in the course of the whole process. Who could actually depute

somebody to bring about ones own devastation by way of squandering their

wealthinthisway?

Once Srila Prabhupada was travelling to Hyderabad by train in the 1st Class

compartment.Hewasaccompaniedby hisclosestdisciplesSriTamaalKrishna

Maharaj and Sri Giri Raj Maharaj, both who were already initiated into the

renounced order of life by Srila Prabhupada. As they were traveling, two

passengers happened to peep into the cabin of Srila Prabhupada. These

passengers immediately took the liberty to enter the cabin and prostrate SrilaPrabhupada.AstheybentovertoreceivetheblessingsofSrilaPrabhupada,they

exclaimedSwamiji, pleasebless us.As iswell known,SrilaPrabhupada was

promptinhisreply.HequippedIfI blessyou,youwouldbecomelikethesetwo

persons sittingbymy side. The two shocked passengers raised their eyes in

anticipation,onlyto findtheirgazefallingatSriGiriRajMaharajandSriTamaal

KrishnaMaharajwhoweredressedinsaffronrobes,withtheirheadsshaved,with

tilak extendingway beyond their foreheads and both of them holding the staff

usuallyadornedbysaintsoftherenouncedorder.Thetwopassengerssoongot

back to their erect positions and smiled back at Srila Prabhupada with a

thoroughly confounded countenance and with no further desires promptly

disappeared.Thisleftthethreesaintsinsplits.HoweverSrilaPrabhupadahada

greatteachingdeliveredtousthroughthiswit.TheblessingofatrueSanyaasiis

actually supposed to introduce one to Sri Krishna and thereby the blessing

transformstheMayainfectedindividualintoaGodrealizedIndividualwhosonly

businessistoserveKrishna,

SanatanaGoswamispentallhistime insacrificialoccupationsandhadstoppedattendingthecourtaltogetheralthoughhewasstillemployedastheministerintheNawabs court. Nawab Hussein Shah had no clue about the whereabouts ofSanatana Goswami. The Nawab soon found out that Sanatana Goswamiwasbusy in rendering service toSrimad Bhagavatham. One day asSanatana and

Rupa Goswami were busy with the functions at their homes, the Nawabunceremoniously barged into the house which startled the assembly of theBrahmanasandtheotherlearnedguests.TheNawabdemandedanexplanationfrom the two brothers for having so conspicuously absent from the court.SanatanaGoswamirepliedpromptlythathewasservingsick!!ThispuzzledtheNawabnoend.ThisfurtherinfuriatedtheNawab.HoweverhevaluedtheservicesofRupaandSanatanaandwaspatientlyawaitinganappropriateexplanationfromthetwobrothers.HoweverboththebrotherswerenotinamindsettorespondtotheNawabsimpliedretributions.
