The King City Council meets the first and third Wednesdays

of every month at 7p.m. at City Hall. This is a great time to learn about all of the current

and upcoming events and happenings throughout

King City.

Just a Reminder from KCCA Management

Please keep dogs off the golf course at all times. Dogs are not allowed to roam free from yards or

use the golf course to relieve themselves. This is a

health issue and also degrades the community and the golf course. As in

any community, pet owners are required to clean up af-ter their pets and not leave the small bags on walkways

or the golf course. Also, residents are responsible for keeping the sidewalks and drains in front of and on the side of their homes clear of debris and weeds.

Thank you for helping keep our community

beautiful.

Bows, bells, balls, and bal-loons will adorn many golf carts expected to compete in the Firecracker Golf Cart Parade on July 3 beginning at 4:00p.m. Sponsored in part by McCann’s, decorated carts are encouraged to be entered for a chance to be declared the winner.

The golf carts will assemble in the KCCA Clubhouse parking lot in plenty of time to make their way to the King City Senior Village (for-merly Pacific Pointe Retirement Inn), where residents will judge the winners. A sign-up sheet is posted in the KCCA Pro Shop for those interested in competing in this fun event. If you have a golf cart, decorate it and join the fun!

The Annual Fourth of July Picnic/Potluck will be held from Noon to 2:00p.m. at the KCCA Clubhouse. Bring your favorite dish to share plus your own plate and utensils, cups, and extra drinks if desired.

FOURTH OF JULY KCCA POTLUCK Tuesday, July 4, 2017

The parade starts and ends at the KCCA Clubhouse. The route will form an oval going down Royalty Parkway onto Queen Elizabeth Street, continuing down Royalty Parkway to King Charles Avenue and then along King George Avenue back to the club-house.

Although the Fourth of July is a fun and festive event, it also serves as a sobering reminder of the sacrifices by so many who have secured our independence so we can celebrate it. For ad-ditional information, contact Jan Hall at 503-443-7666 or [email protected], or Roy Armour at 503-330-6594.

Coffee and teas will be provided. Volunteers are always needed. Come at 11:00a.m. to help set up or stay until 2:00p.m. to help with clean-up. We hope to see you there!

Tualatin Valley Quilt Guild (TVQG) would like to invite both experienced and novice quilters to join their guild. TVQG, an established guild, is moving from Sherwood to King City. Monthly meetings are held at 7:00p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month (except December) at the KCCA Clubhouse. Meetings include a speaker or program, Show & Tell, Block of the Month, Fat Quarter drawing, and door prizes. TVQG makes quilts, assists mul-tiple charities, and sponsors two yearly retreats. For more information about the guild, email [email protected] or visit their website at https://tvqg.wordpress.com/

Tualatin Valley Quilt Guild Moves to King City

PRESIDENT, continued from front page:

The pool construction should be flying by now after what seemed to be forever, waiting for build-ing designs and permits to be issued. This building will be a great asset to KCCA and will help property values increase even higher than they have been.

Looking to the future and not dwelling on what used to be or what has been done in the past is the goal of this administration and I believe we all can embrace this. Change is very hard and even harder the older we get (and none of us are getting any younger). A “wait and see” attitude will help everyone cope with any changes that are necessary.

The KCCA CC&R’s need to be edited and rewrit-ten to meet the changing times. New accounting procedures are in the works for bill paying, etc., that requires new technology and skills we must learn. New people with new and better ideas are moving into this community and we need to

embrace the new knowledge and figure out how it can best fit into our lives.

Along with other changes, I have instituted how you and I can communicate effectively. I only have a cell phone and I am on the “do not call” list for sales calls, so I only answer my phone if I know who it is. Please, if you want to talk with me and I don’t answer the phone, leave a message, number and name and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I want KCCA to work for and with you to have the best outcome for this year. Thank you.

On June 5, the King City Chorus met in the clubhouse for the monthly show  and, once again, was very entertaining. With Muriel Dresser on piano and Dennis Pollmann as MC, the show opened with “If I Loved You” and “Paper Moon.”

Solos started off with Rich Haller warbling “You Made Me Love You.” Elsa Malcom came next with a sultry rendition of “Basin Street Blues.” Everyone was happy to have Bill Lowe back again and he sang a lovely “Young at Heart.”

Pool Fundraising NewsSubmitted by Val Schuyler

The news is all good – dollar by dollar we are getting closer to our goal of raising $25,000 to purchase the items that will make our new Aquatic Center world famous (well, at least we will love it!). The Pool Construction Committee has selected a com-pany to provide our fob-based security system with video system included. The committee is also working to design signage for the entire building, select hand held showers, and research both multi-level benches and the most effective and reliable steam clean-ing system. All of these significant components and others will be purchased with the money raised.

So far, a total of more than $4,500 in contributions to the Pool Fund has come from the following sources: individuals ($1,519), KCCA Aquatic Club ($700), businesses ($1,250), the Spring Fling Dance put on by Dee Burkey ($222), the LuLaRoe Fashion Show put on by Megan and Regina Muter ($356), mug sales ($400) to date, other ($125), and a yet unknown amount from the Small Treasures Sale that

”Phyllis Vertrees sang “You Are My Sunshine” and I’ll bet no one ever heard it sung without a hillbilly twang, but she did it. Lynn Turner delighted us with “When I Fall In Love” and was followed by Jerry Larsen of the deeply thrilling voice singing “Old Man River.” Joyce Strassberg, with her lovely warm voice, offered “What A Difference A Day Makes.”

So many of these performers make everyone feel as  if they must have had a professional background in music. So much talent we are lucky to have near-by.

was held on June 24-25 at the Clubhouse.

This month we will initiate our campaign to encourage resi-dents to make contributions to the Aquatic Center. Watch for the poster that shows pro-gress toward our $25,000 goal. Make a contribution yourself that moves the swimmer up the ladder toward that goal. If you are ready to contribute now – now that you see actual construction going on at the Aquatic Center site!– leave a check made out to “KCCA” with “for pool fundraising” in the memo line at the KCCA office. Contributions are not tax-deductible, but your contribu-tion will be an investment in the increased value of your property, a benefit to your health, and a source of community pride.

Hello Neighbors

Social Committee

Submitted by Nancy Hayes

On July 13, the Lawn Bowling Club will host our July BYOB. This is an opportunity for you to learn about and try out the sport of Lawn Bowling. And, on September 14, the Lion’s Club will be hosting the September BYOB. Are you following a con-cept here? Mentioned in previ-ous newsletter articles, Hello Neighbors has asked clubs to host BYOB’s as a way to introduce themselves to the residents, many of whom have not had an opportunity to learn what their

clubs are about. The first one, Shuffleboard Club, was really successful. The Hello Neighbors Social Committee guides the club in organizing the evening. The date is already on the calendar as the second Thursday of eachA month. Our 50/50 filled Dan Day’s pocket with some extra cash to the tune of $38.00! This and other prizes are more of the fun features of the evening.

On Tuesday, June 27, 6-8:00p.m. Hello Neighbors held their first Creative Workshop at the clubhouse. King City is lucky to have many creative and inspiring individuals with various talents willing to share them with us all. At the time this article is being written, these are some of the people signed up to share with their fel-low King City res idents –

popcorn cakes, holiday center-pieces, woodworking, shadow boxes, hypertufa ”leaves,” and watercolors. We really are for-tunate to have such talent in and around our community.

All Hello Neighbors Social Committee meetings are held

Mary Jeffery was great with “Golden Earrings” and was followed by Barbara Parks with a moving “Memories.” Vernon Coats did it again--thrilled one and all with his lovely, mellow voice--this time singing “I’m in the Mood For Love.” Ooooh! Fran Walston, who is one of the directors of the chorus, belted out “Feelin’ Like Someone in Love.” Wow!

Muriel Dresser closed solos with “They All Laughed.” The performance was closed by the chorus singing “Shenandoah” and “Rock-A-Bye Baby.” It was a most delightful show of talent.

Everyone hopes to see more of the community at our upcoming shows, always on the first Monday of each month. If anyone is interested in becoming a member of the chorus, please phone Muriel at 503-684-3978 or Sharon Baker at 503-352-5958 for information. The next show will be on July 4 and we hope everyone will be there!

KING CITY WOMEN’S

GOLF CLUBSubmitted by Janet Craig

Summer is here! Yay! After our long Winter weather, the Women’s Golf Club is in full swing (pun intended). The trees we gave to the maintenance shop are being planted. We still need more trees to replace the ones lost during our windstorm this Spring. If you would like to do-nate to the replacement of the trees, you can donate at the KCCA Administration Office in the Clubhouse. There is a special fund set up for this.

The Men’s and Women’s Golf Clubs have been helping to im-

KING CITY MEN’S GOLF CLUBSubmitted by Will Craig, KCMGC President

Here comes July and there are many fun events for us to enjoy this month! First, there are a couple mixed Chapmans on the third and the 18th. Get your decorations out for the Golf Cart Parade on July 3rd at 4:00p.m. or if you’d rather, it’s a good time for a sidewalk party.

Home & Home Tournament with Salemtowne is coming up on July 10th here at KCCA and on July 24th there at Salemtowne, and both will be a great time. Get signed up as soon as you

LANDSCAPE & ARCHITECT REVIEW COMMITTEE FORMSAs most KCCA residents know, when residents in single-family

homes within the KCCA HOA perimeter decide to update or make changes to the exterior of their homes and/or yards, they need to fill out and sub-

mit a LARC change form to the KCCA office in the clubhouse. Please make sure that these completed forms are handed only to a KCCA staff person

or the LARC committee head. We are trying to process these forms and requests efficiently and help people get their pro-

jects moving on schedule.

Thank you! (Continued on Page 11)(Continued on Page 12)

East Washington County Democratic Caucus (EWCDC)Submitted by Diane Tyhurst

On July 6, the EWCDS will present a program on the environment and the negative effects caused by President Trump’s withdrawal from the climate accord.  Find out how Oregon and the rest of the West Coast are finding ways to preserve nature and fight the effects of climate change.  Come and learn what some local organizations are doing and how you can help. The EWCDs meet on the first Thursday of each month at the King City Club-house. Social hour is at 6:30pm and the program begins at 7:00pm. Everyone is welcome!

Senator Kim Thatcher Gets the Oregon Issues Straight on July 14

Oregonians are about to face a poorly disguised sales tax that will cost everyone a lot of extra money and several other very negative pieces of restrictive bills. Senator Kim Thatcher from Marion County works across the aisle and has been able to help get positive legislation passed.

Senator Thatcher has agreed to speak and answer our questions on July 14 at the King City

The golf course continues to look better and better with all the new trees and the Men’s and Women’s Golf Clubs are contrib-uting small projects to help with the appearance of the grounds.

We have all enjoyed the Men’s Golf Club-hosted donuts and cof-fee at our month-end scramble, and I want to thank the Women’s Golf Club ladies for running the 50/50 raffle that has been raising funds for the Backpack Program.

We have a great club and we’re always looking for new members, so if you have any questions, inquire at the KCCA Pro Shop. Thanks.

DOCUMENTARY FILM SHOWING: “Voices of Grief, Honoring the Sacred Journey”

HELLO NEIGHBORS, continued from page 7:

“Transforming.” That’s how Kathy Sparnins, a former Portland resident, long-time grief educator, and first-time filmmaker, describes the documen-tary film that has consumed her life for several years. Sparnins is the Co-Producer of “Voices of Grief, Honoring the Sacred Journey.” The 42-min-ute documentary film will be making its Oregon premiere on Monday, July 24, at 6:30pm at Christ the King Lutheran Church located at 11305 SW Bull Mountain Road in Tigard.

Through her experience as a grief educator, Sparnins became aware of how death- and grief-phobic our culture has become. “Over the years,

I learned how often our culture struggles to sup-port people in pain, and especially when they are grieving,” she says. “We want people to be okay, but we give them messages to hurry this process and get over it. It’s not that we are bad people; we just don’t know what to do.” The documentary weaves together interviews, insights from con-temporary authors, poets and spiritual teachers, and the stories of people who talk about their own very personal experiences with grief. More information about “Voices of Grief” can be found at www.voicesofgrief.org.
