    APHL Annual Meeting 2019

  • Motto: Live Free or Die Best known for the Presidential PrimaryFirst vote in the nation – Dixville Notch

PresenterPresentation NotesDixville Notch is an unincorporated community in Dixville township, Coos County, New Hampshire, United States. The population of the township, all of whom live in Dixville Notch, was 12 at the 2010 census. Since 1960, voters in this tiny Coos County community have been casting their ballots just after the stroke of midnight to mark the official start of the New Hampshire presidential primary.

  • 1st PHL Consortium

  • NetworkingTrainingOutreach -Sentinel Lab Visits

PresenterPresentation NotesThe biosafety officers from the public health laboratories within the Northeast region of the United States and whose laboratory directors participate with the Northeast Environmental and Public Health Laboratory Directors (NEEPHLD) consortium conducted a regional laboratory safety symposium for the clinical laboratories within their respective jurisdictions. The NEEPHLD is comprised of state public health laboratories (PHL) in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont and one local public health laboratory, New York City. The need for this symposium arose from the biosafety officer (BSO) outreach visits to sentinel and clinical laboratories, where it was determined that there was a need for more biosafety and biosecurity knowledge and training for clinical laboratories and their staff. Many hospital laboratories need to comply with regulatory bodies within their own facilities, however, laboratory administration revealed the laboratory component does not include detailed laboratory biosafety and biosecurity training.

  • $10,000Use before June 2018

  • • Learned a lot of great information• Would like to see more programs like this • Gave laboratorians a great basic understanding of

safety • Helped figure out what needs to be done to improve

safety in their laboratory• Safety isn’t talked about enough in clinical laboratories

with a positive tone because it can often be seen as a hassle or barrier to efficiency
