Introduction

Practice teaching is the highlight and most exciting parts of a

teaching course. It is a part of the experiential learning course of the new

teacher education curriculum which guide us prospective teachers the

chance to experience the life of actual teaching environment. The

opportunities and experiences embedded in this course enable us to meet

the challenges of the real learning situation. The valid requirement made

me prepare to cope with the demands of the profession.

A teacher`s portfolio is a compilation of work created by student

teacher. It is designed to show teacher’s talents and constructed to

emphasize their knowledge and skills in teaching.

Portfolio is a document created by student teacher which reveals,

relates and describes the teacher`s duties, knowledge, proficiency and

growth in teaching.

It also offers opportunity for judging one’s work and evaluating the

effectiveness of lessons.

Each contention was documented as reference and plays a vital rule

in the over-all assessment of a teacher. In fact, some school uses portfolios

to make personal decisions and used it to improve more the traditional

assessment measures, such as standardized tests and observation

checklist.

However, the use of this teacher`s portfolios is not universally

endorsed due to its subjectivity in evaluating works and outputs of the

pupil.

Teacher’s Creed

I believe in God the spring of all wisdom and acumen that has

fashioned every human in his portrait and reflection.

I believe in the aptitude of every Filipino to discern with firm resolve

his deep sense of patriotism or conviction in himself and his ability to

face up to the test of the future composure.

I believe in the potentiality of every entity to develop to his fullest

given the right opportunity and guidance and encouragement in an

atmosphere of freedom, peace and love.

I believe in the genuineness and righteousness which I should always

elevate and affection for other which I should always infuse in every

pupil and student given in my concern.

I believe that as educator, I can fulfil all my allegiance and

accountability in my occupation, and all my actuations are marked by

uprightness, a deep affiliation, spirituality and a deep sense of

commitment to teaching as my profession.

Student Teacher’s

Prayer

Lord Jesus, when you lived, worked and talked among the

people, they called you Teacher. Help me to remember the greatness

of the work which has been given to me to do. Help me always to

remember that I work with the most precious material in the in the mind

of a child. Help me always to remember that I am making marks upon

that time will never rub out.

Give me patience with those who are slow to learn and even with

those who refuse to learn. When I have to exercise discipline, help me

to do so with sternness and yet with love. Keep me from the sarcastic

and the biting tongue and help me always to encourage and never to

discourage those who are doing their best, even if that best is not very

good.

Help me to help these children, not only to store things in their

memories, but to be able to use their minds, and to think for

themselves. And amidst the worries and the irritations and the

frustrations of my profession, help me to remember that the future of

the church, the nation and of the world is in my hands. This I ask for

your love`s sake.

Teaching Beliefs

I believe that as a teacher, we must: • Believe all children can learn

• Display enthusiasm and passion for what we teach

• Work together as a professional learning community intent on

improving student’s achievements

• Set achievable but challenging tasks

• Provide differentiated learning activities

• Provide a quality classroom environment in which all students

feel valued and respected by the teacher and by fellow students

• Work hard to develop positive relationship with all students

• Know our subject matter well

• Maintain high expectations of our students

• Plan explicit teaching activities that stimulate student’s interest

I believe that students learn best:

• When they believe they can learn

• In different ways at different rates

• When the classroom and school environment support their

emotional, social, cultural, and educational needs

• When the learning is authentic

• When they feel respected

• When there is a positive relationship between teacher and

student

• When the teachers provide explicit feedback designed to

reduce the gap between a students’ current and a higher level of

understanding.

Reflection

Student teaching gives me unforgettable experiences that I

can`t really forget. I considered this as diamond that no one can steal

due to its magnificent and value. It gives me also a lifelong experience

that even how many decades or whatever phenomenon occur, all the

moments and experienced I`ve encountered in the field of my student

teaching will stay fresh in my thoughts and perception.

Some challenges that I`ve encountered with were making of

lesson plans, socializing and coping up different attitudes of students

and the many task or requirements given to us by our principal and

subject teachers.

I remember all the feelings during the time of difficulties and

hardships came to meat that time that I almost gave up and quit

because, tiredness, weariness, and hopelessness. It really tested

myself whether this was really my fashion or career to be fulfi lled with

or not.

Providentially, I was able to surpass all those challenges due to

my fortitude and with the help, guidance, and assistance given to me

by my very supportive parent and kind cooperating teachers.

My Personal Teaching

Philosophy

Teaching is a form of distinctiveness as student of College of

Education. It is the process of imparting knowledge and sharing

teacher`s expertise to their pupils. Thus, I believe that effective

teaching involves synergistic relationship between the students and

teacher.

Teaching is the most rewarding aspect as a profession and

forms of the identity as a student of College of Education.

Teaching energizes me and I strive to love teaching and discipline my

students.

I believe that effective teaching involves collaborative and

synergistic relationship between the students and teacher.

I believe also that pupil’s best learn in a friendly environment.

That`s why, I must see to it that I will provide them conducive

environment that they can relax and fell they are welcome and belongs

to the group.

Most of all, I believe that teaching profession is not an easy

task because we should set ourselves not only a teacher who would

impart knowledge to them but also a person that would understand,

treasure and love them the way their parents love them too.

Career Plan

Now that our graduation is fast approaching, I am really glad

and light- hearted because after all the hardship, difficulties and

challenges I`ve encountered with, I would be able to march conceitedly

and joyfully because finally, I made it.

Now, I came to the point asking “what will be the next?” What will

happen to me after graduation? I am really inquisitive to what will be

the next step or what should I do next? Perchance, I do believe

whenever I foresee something I dreamt, I hold on it.

First, in this summer I take NCII in TESDA, while enrolled in

Master’s Degree. By the month of August or September, I will be

facing the great opportunity of my field by taking the LET and the

next school year, I will be a licensed teacher already and working in the

public school as a government employee.

To my friends, classmates or simply the readers who will read

this bear with me, this is just how I predict or foresee myself as would

be teacher in the near future, believe it or not. Thank you!

Community Outreach Extension Program

The student teachers of University of Eastern Philippines

Laboratory Elementary School conducted an extension at UEP

Zone 1 Day Care Center last January 12, 2015. There were

almost twenty student teachers assigned to observe the said school.

At exactly 8:30, the class started with a routinely activity like

singing a song before praying. After the song, it was followed by a

prayer. The teacher assigned one pupil to lead the prayer.

To start with their lesson, the teacher asked the pupils to name

different animals which they knew. After this part, the teacher let the

pupils to sing a song again to catch the attention of those inattentive

pupils. After the song, the teacher showed a picture of different

animals and let the pupils identify each. She also asked them what we

can get from each animal.

When the teacher observed that her pupils were not listening,

she let them stand up and sing a song titled “I’m a Little Tea Pot”.

At exactly nine o’clock the pupils took their snacks. After thirty

minutes the discussion resumed. The teacher let the pupils wrote the

first letter of the names of each animal on the board. And she gave a

star for those who participate and wrote the letter correctly.

At ten o’clock the teacher dismissed the class. Before the

dismissal they pray first.

January 13, 2015 was the second day of extension of the

student teachers. At exactly 8:30 the class were complete. The

teacher let the pupils pray first. After the prayer, she let them sing a

song.

To begin with the discussion, the teacher posted pictures of

animals living on land, on water, and, on air. She let the pupil’s name

the animals in the picture before letting them identify as to where they

live: if they live on land, water, or in the air.

Page 16: Jetron portfolio in Practice teaching

16

At nine o’clock the teacher let the pupils took their snack. After

a minute, the teacher engaged immediately the pupils in a game where

they are going to post each picture of animals in the columns on the

board. Column 1 is for the animals living on land, column 2 is for the

animals living in the water, and column 3 is for the animals living in the

air. Since it’s a game, she gave star for those who finished correctly

the game.

There was an active participation in the class. The teacher was

able to catch their attention during the game.

At ten o’clock the teacher dismissed the pupils.

IN-Campus Teaching

After the 7 semesters and taking all the subjects I’ve finally

enrolled my Student Teaching subject. In order for these knowledge

to be realized and to be applied with in the field, Dr. Cabili, dean of

College Education deploy us at UEP Laboratory Elementary

School under Dr. Galvez for our In- Campus Teaching.

My cooperating teacher at UEPLES is Mr. Fernando

Valencia, whom I considered as second parent during my stay there.

He and gave me advises in my day to day teaching and activities in

school. Then, the pupil whom I learned to love and treasure was multi

grade. They were very smart, talented, and kind. Their smile were the

one who inspired me in all the difficulties I`ve encountered there.

For almost two months of staying there, I`ve learned and

experienced many things because madam principal engaged us into

different activities in school. She practiced us also to manage all the

programs held in school.

The first program that we held at UEPLES was the English

Month Celebration. As usual, all of us were excited to attend to it

due to the intermission number and other preparations that we`ve

made. However, I was not able to attend the program because I was

brought to hospital at that time due to accident happened to me.

After English Month Celebration, the next program we`ve held

there was the Christmas Party together with Induction Party. Here,

lots of preparations were made. Aside from the stage preparation,

we`ve also prepared an intermission number together with our pupils.

Then after the program, we`ve organized a party inside our room.

Page 18: Jetron portfolio in Practice teaching

18

Immediately after the day of our Christmas and Induction party,

we attended the BTC or the Basic Training Course for Scouting.

Here, we acquired knowledge and skills on the different things we

must know on how to handle scouts. We also have a great experience

here because trainers from different schools engaged us in meaningful

activities. They also inculcated us lessons to us.

After the Christmas vacation and New Year, we returned back

there and started our Straight Teaching. Happily, because of the

ample time that madam principal given to us, all of us successfully done

to it.

Subsequent to the straight teaching, the next activity that

we`ve had was our Grand Demonstration Teaching. Next to the

Grand Demonstration teaching was our Orientation Seminar in

Catarman Central 2 Elementary School. There, sir Eco and Maam

Esteria orient us in the different things that we must learn and we

must do during the time that we will be deploy in the Department of

Education.

Finally, after all the activities and task that principal assigned to

us, she required us to have the clearance and posted our grades in the

bulletin board. Providentially, I am very grateful and very blessed

because all the efforts, difficulties and challenges I encountered with

on that time, bears with a good grade.

OFF-Campus Teaching

As early as 6:30 in the morning of 22nd day of January year

2015, I, together with my 8 co- student teachers went to Cawayan

Integrated School to have our off- campus teaching. As usual, the

first place that we visit was the office of the principal because we

know that he was the person who will accommodate us.

Unfortunately, he was not able to accommodate us on that time Mrs.

Ofelia Ejon accommodated us and orient us in all the important

matter that we must learn inside the school premise including the do`s

and don’ts. She’s also the one who designated us in our respective

cooperating teacher.

My first cooperating teacher whom I thought very strict was

Mrs. Lyneth R. Besarino. One of the very intelligent and active

teacher in school. But for almost two weeks of staying there, I

realized that he was exactly opposite to the one I thought because

aside from the characteristics that I`ve enumerated above, she was

also kind, understanding and very patient. Then, the pupils whom I

learned to love and value were the grades VI –Mabini and other

sections. They were jolly, kind, and cooperative.

After one week my pupils in grade VI was very busy practicing

their Parade of Dances. After two weeks of staying in school, we’ve

prepare for our Grand Demonstration Teaching. Instead of shifting

that week we make our Im’s for the Grade Demo. After the grand

demo, on the following day the teachers assign us student teachers to

make a sash for the Search of King and Queen of Hearts. On that

week for our second shift I only teach twice only Wednesday and

Thursday. On Friday February 13, the search is successfully done.

Page 22: Jetron portfolio in Practice teaching

22

Instantaneously after the search, my next shift is on Kinder my

cooperating teacher is Mrs. Analyn C. Calaque, on my first day of

teaching I was so nervous because I don’t know if the pupils will like

me, but after the many teachings I was able to cope up their attitudes

and I learn to love them as I love to teach to my first shift.

Teaching in the Kinder is a very hard job. You must hold your

temper in order to not to hurt them even if you are very angry.

I teach in the Kinder for almost three weeks, my local

demonstration was in the Kinder. In the first place I cannot expect

that I will done it but because of the help of ma’am Calaque, it was

successfully done.

The last activity is our office woks, Mr. Gomba instructed us to

make Form 1, 2, 3, 5, form 137, DepEd form 138-E and the DTR.

Ma’am Gayon help us to do it in the Microsoft excel. And she teach

us how enrol a pupil online.

Finally, after all the activities and task that assigned to us, our

cooperating teachers as well as our subject teachers gave our final

rating. And I am very grateful and very blessed because all the

efforts, difficulties and challenges I encountered on that time was pay

off because I`ve got best reward.
