JAC has teamed up with the Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce, Golden Artist Colors, regional businesses and artists to create the Bainbridge Arts Trail - “Regatta Row”. This will be an outdoor exhibition of 20 Artist designed, Adirondack “Canoe Paddle Chairs”. Each unique chair will have canoe paddles for the back and arms. They will be exhibited on Main Street (Intersection of Routes 7 & 206) in historic downtown Bainbridge throughout May and then auctioned at the Regatta to benefit the JAC. The iconic Regatta draws close to 15,000 people for Memorial Day Weekend and is the longest flat-water canoe race in the world, culminating at the finish line in Bainbridge! Artists and designers must submit an application by the deadline of Friday, Feb 12 to be selected to create a unique chair, used as a canvas to decorate, carve or paint. We are looking for artists to interpret the theme: Seasons of Bainbridge. We hope you will tell stories, translate emotions, and inspire creativity & original thinking through your art. This is an opportunity for artists to get involved and bring creativity to the streets & to the public. On Opening Night, Sat. April 30, a “Meet the Artist” Reception will be held and Awards of Distinction will be given to artists for: Best in Show; Best Representation of Bainbridge. On Memorial Day Weekend a People’s Choice Award will be announced before the chair auction. Supplies and Recognition for Selected Artists: Chairs: Wood Adirondack Paddle Chair to use as a canvas for art, decoration and/or carving. Chairs may be modified structurally, but must be usable and safe. Paint: Golden Artist Colors has generously sponsored the finest paints for your use on the chair. Business Sponsors: Artists who are invited to interpret a specific business will receive $50 for their additional time and meeting with the sponsor. “Meet the Artists”: Celebrate the spirit of the iconic Regatta on Saturday, April 30 by being on hand for the “Meet the Artists” networking event where locals and tourists experience of art in the streets! Bainbridge Art Trail – Regatta Row

2016 Rules and Requirements While this is a community art fundraiser, each artist will receive a minimum of $50 in

appreciation of their donation of talent.

1. Application: Artists must submit the application including a sketch or storyboard of their proposed design for the seat back and arm of the “Paddle Chair” for review by the JAC jury. Sketches do not have to be extremely detailed, but opportunity is enhanced with detailed submissions.

2. Deadlines: a. Application Deadline: Friday, Feb 12 – Application must be postmarked or delivered b. Chair Delivery: April 16, 2016 - All chairs must be finished, dry and delivered to Bainbridge.

3. Artist Selection - Jury: Jury will be members of the JAC and invited professionals. Number of selected artists is expected to be 15 to 20, but may vary. Selection is based on originality, artistic merit and ability to convey the theme.

4. People’s Choice Award: Public voting at www.jerichoarts.com is open from April 30 to May 27. One vote per person please. You are encouraged to use your social media to spread the word to friends and family to help you by voting online. The public will select 1 additional artist to receive a special award. Artist participation is optional in the online “People’s Choice Jury”. Your design concept will be put on the JAC website for voting unless we are notified otherwise in writing. Information on how to vote will be available on JAC website www.jerichoarts.com (Gallery) by April 28, 2016. (See Artist Choices # 2)

5. Theme: “Seasons of Bainbridge” Interpret an aspect of life relating to Bainbridge in any or all seasons: history, culture, nature, art, architecture and of course, the General Clinton Canoe Regatta

6. JAC Plaques: A plaque will be on each chair with the Title, Artist or Group name and Sponsor name 7. Function: Chairs must be designed to be usable as a functional seat. The Structure of the chair

may be modified, carved or decorated. 8. A "Family Style" Show: Artwork containing nudity or deemed offensive will be rejected at the discretion of

the coordinators and judges. 9. Sponsors: Some sponsors will request custom chairs in front of their business locations. Only those

artists selected to collaborate with sponsors will be given $50 for their time to interpret the business. (All artists will receive a selection of fine Golden Artist Colors.) Designs cannot include signage or the name of the sponsor, but should capture the essence of the business through art. (See “Artist Choices # 3”)

10. Responsibility: All costs to paint or decorate the Paddle Chair, including transportation to and from downtown Bainbridge to the artist’s work place, are the responsibility of artists unless otherwise noted. Application will imply agreement with this disclaimer. The chairs, copyright and art upon them are the sole property of the JAC Gallery Committee. The Chairs and artwork are the property of the JAC and may be used for promotion of the arts and auctioned or sold to help the promotion of the Arts in Bainbridge

11. Auction: A live or silent auction to benefit the JAC and the Arts will be held at the end of the exhibition. Artist Timeline 2016:

a. Feb 12: Application and biography to be received or postmarked no later than Friday, Feb 12 b. Feb 16: Artist Selection is announced via e mail or phone if approved c. that business d. Feb 21 : Chairs available to selected artists. Blank Chairs will be available for artist pickup based on the

date application was received and if working with a Platinum Sponsor. e. March 7 : Artists assigned to specific business sponsors must submit design to interpret client f. Noon, April 16: Artists complete and deliver chair by Noon for top coating. g. April 27 to 29: Chair installation in Bainbridge h. April 30: Exhibition Premiere “Meet the Artists” 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Artists are expected to participate unless

written notice to JAC is given in advance. Regional, multimedia press and the public will be invited. i. April 30 to May 27: Public online voting opens for Award – “People’s Choice ” to be announced May 28. j. May 28: Chair Auction at General Clinton Regatta Field in the Chamber of Commerce Tent.
