WHAT IS MOVIE MAKING?

Movie making is a process of capturing an event orprocess on film or through still photos and putting inthe appropriate sound, explanation, or background

music. Movie making can be done with movies thatthe user makes, video found online (copyrightfriendly -- Discovery’s United Streaming - editableclips are great), or still pictures taken by the user orfound on copyright friendly sites. Users can use pre-recorded audio or record their own narration and

Why Use MOVIE MAKING?

Making a movie in/for the classroom is a great way toengage students as both creators and learners.Whether it is a film about a specific topic, aexplanatory piece/how to video, or a reenactment of ascene or event, student and teacher created movies canenhance the educational experience for all of ourstudents. Movie making is a not a difficult endeavor,but does require vision, process, and a bit of time, butonce you’ve engaged in the process once - it is all fairlysimple from there.

How do I use Movie Making?

*Explain a concept -- scientific theory, imaginarynumbers, the cause of economic decline, theme ina story

*Recreate an event -- the Battle of Gettysburg, thediscovery of Newton’s Laws, the balcony scene from Romeoand Juliet, the invention of basketball (peach baskets on trees - Ican just see it....)

*Tell a story - using still photos from the National Archives - or anycopyright friendly source -- choose an image that “speaks” to you, write astory for that person (part of the fun is that it does not have to be completelyfactual, but the telling of the time period and context should be)

*Film a process -- baking bread (recreate Food Network demos), CPR instructions, mathproblems, science labs, conjugating verbs, writing a 5 paragraph essay or a haiku

*Edit movies already made -- use United Streaming videos and edit them to the scenesyou need and then add photos and narration to make the creation “do” what you needit to.
