Upcoming Events Dean’s Seminars:

April 11 – Migrant/Transnational Studies Across the Curriculum - Presentation by NEH chair Dr. Jeffrey Herlihy-Mera.

Albright College and the surrounding communities are in a transnational moment. In recent decades the accelerated movement of peoples, languages, and communities from around the globe has brought together new ideas, philosophies, and cultures. The critical locus of this lecture explores the fundamental circumstance of transnational/migrant studies—cultural displacement—in order to explore the new challenges and opportunities for teaching and living in a transnational community. Through examining the outcomes of cultural movement, the phases of cultural immersion, and the futures of transnational communities, this lecture will offer some insights and conceptual ideas on how to integrate these themes into a classroom setting.

Experience Event:

April 18 – Dr. Katy Masuga, Professor at The American University of Paris and at l‘Université de Paris (III): La Sorbonne Nouvelle. By the invitation of Dr. Jeffrey Herlihy-Mera, supported by the NEH Chair in Humanities.

―Paris‖ could be the first word of an epic poem. This lecture brings together diverse perspectives on the novels, memoirs, poetry, and journalism concerning Paris written by Americans. By examining the implications of American life in the French capital, this experience event will offer an interesting take on distance, writing, and identity that would be compelling for the literary scholar and the avid reader.
