Jazz Oddity is a reworking project of some pieces of David Robert Jones, best known as David Bowie, in a jazz/rock key, released in March 2011 for the label “La Frontiera” (CNI) - David Bowie’s Music holds a very special place in my heart since I was very young, and this old love brought me to conceive a radical contamination between Rock and Jazz, a borderland upon which all my souls join together. A real “Jazz Oddity” - Federica Zammarchi - Jazz players, rock players... Thinking musicwise leads to creating divisions. We divide, thus classifying styles, artists, trends, music stores departments (or their leftovers). But reality is simpler. Nowadays, we live a music "pangea": a total music that is listened to, that is played, deconstrucetd and re-built, being the synthesis of all that experienced by each musician actually living this music. Federica Zammarchi perfectly represents such reality, giving life to her own original reinterpretation of the awesome Bowie - someone we all have got under our skins, somehow. It's an incredible blend of the strongest elements of the worlds of Jazz and Rock. As side-musicians we found ourselves at game - behind any false purisms - with arrangements, rhythmic inventions, piano textures, bass and guitar lines designed by Federica with such musicality and talent, as if "Loving the Alien" - as Bowie would say - loving all that dierent. Marco Siniscalco Jazz Oddity”, consists in eleven re-arrangements of songs of David Bowie. Its concept came up a few years ago, when she needed to mix together her two main musical loves, namely jazz and 70’s rock, both so important during her forming years. It was recorded with an Italian all-star band and it showcases a uniquely innovative sound, slightly influenced by european bands like the Esbjörn Svensson Trio, coining a new genre definition called "PowerJazz".
