Okay, so nobody really loves “Zooming.” We would much prefer
meeting face-to-face. We would prefer to share the same space without
masks and without six feet marked off between us. But there is good news
on the horizon; some return to our “old normal” seems to be on the
horizon. Until then, Facebook, YouTube, and Zoom remain a necessary
reality.
Actually, one of the greatest delights of my 2020 has been the Zoom
Pastor’s Bible Study. Somehow this group has not only managed to
maintain itself this past year, but it has also managed to thrive.
Conversation has been as thought-provoking and stimulating as ever. We
have just finished a study of the Psalms that challenged each of us to
search deeply into the many ways we are encouraged to approach God;
through worship, as people who lament, as those with a need to praise
and offer thanksgiving. The Psalms even encourage us to approach God
when we are angry…even angry with God.
Now this class turns to study the Gospel of John. John is the “odd
man out” gospel. The gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are very
similar; they share multiple stories, comparable timelines, and similar
purposes. John, on the other hand, is unique to itself. In John you find
scenes not found in the other gospels, including Jesus turning water into
wine at the wedding at Cana, the resurrection of Lazarus, Jesus washing
the feet of his disciples, and multiple visits to Jerusalem. In this class we
will consider the seven “signs” culminating in the raising of Lazarus and
the seven “I am” sayings that culminate in Thomas’s proclamation of the
risen Jesus as “my Lord and my God.”
Each week the class is offered twice. You can join in on Tuesday
mornings at 9:30 a.m. or on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. Several
hours before the class you will receive a “Zoom Invitation” and a copy of
class notes with material designed to help class participates dig deeper
into the revelations of the Gospel of John. Each class lasts approximately
90 minutes and each week there is a mixture of lecture, discussion,
question & answer, all combined with no small amount of meaningful
fellowship and laughter.
If you are interested in joining a Bible study group that is friendly,
engaging, and deeply thoughtful, now is the perfect time to do so. You
can join others as we start at a new beginning. There is room for the Bible
study novice, the Bible study “steady Eddie,” and the Bible study diehard.
We find everyone, no matter what their background, has something of
value to add to the class. The added benefit of joining this study is that we
should be studying those chapters of John most relevant to the seasons of
Lent and Easter as we enter into those seasons this 2021.
If you would like to join in either class or would like more information
about the planned study of The Gospel of John please contact the church
office or email me directly at [email protected]. We will need to
know of your plan to join us before this class begins so that we can add
you to the Zoom invitation list. This study will unfold over 12-14 weeks.

Canton Corona Bible Project
To stay connected while physically distancing, people across Canton are invited to copy a chapter from the Bible
in their own handwriting. The final result will be a “Canton Corona Bible,” a powerful testimony to hope and
connection in this time of crisis. Our goal is to copy the whole Christian Bible, using individuals’ handwriting or
calligraphy. For each of the 1,189 chapters of the biblical books of the Old and New Testament, we are looking for
women and men, youth or children who commit to each copy at least one chapter. Contributors are also welcome
to add a personal commentary, illustrations, or artistic interpretations to their passage. Thus, the Bible is re-
created in light of our questions and fears, but also our hope and trust as a testimony to this time of crisis.
FBC GCBDEF GHI TJGKF: HJLCJM BNLOJ
• The chapters of the books of the Hebrew Bible (or Old Testament) will be copied by
small groups, families, choirs, groups, and other associations who commit to copy a
whole biblical book.
• Team captains are asked to contact [email protected] for more details.
FBC IHINPNIDGO WCNQJCF: QRJ NJM TJFQGKJHQ
• Each individual selects a chapter (or two) from the New Testament (see
www.cantoncpc.org) You can sign up for your preferred chapter using the Signup
Genius links. If your favorite chapter is already taken, please select another option.
Make sure to write down your selection!
• If you have any questions, contact [email protected].
• If you are not able to select a chapter via Signup Genius, you can call 330-456-8113.
FBC EPJCSBHJ:
• You can write in any language you would like. Different languages are explicitly welcome!
• Choose your preferred translation (e.g. NRSV, NIV, CEB, ESV, the Message…) You can copy the text from
your personal Bible, or you can find it online.
• Write on regular (not lined) white copy & multipurpose paper, letter size (8 1/2” x 11”), 20-24 lb.
• Use both sides, writing single spaced, so that the Bible won’t become too thick.
• Choose your favorite writing utensil. Ballpoint, gel, marker and fountain pens are all good options, but
whatever you choose, make sure it doesn’t bleed through the pages.
• Write in portrait orientation, leaving a margin of at least 1″ left and right, and 1/2” on top/bottom. Pencil in
your margins (and lines) and erase them later.
• Please write the (English) name of the biblical book and your chapter large and visible at the beginning of
your text. You do not need to copy the little numbers (verses). Also, please don’t copy the titles of the
paragraphs, as they do not belong to the original text.
• You may also illustrate the written text or use calligraphy to highlight individual letters. Please avoid colors
that apply thickly on the paper.
• Please sign your finished chapter with your name and any biographical information you want to include.
Then, using a 9”x12” manila envelope, mail in your finished chapter(s) to the church by April 1, 2021. Please DO
NOT FOLD OR BEND! Finally, on the back of your envelope, note the biblical book and chapter. Send your
contribution to: Rev. Michael Wallace, 530 Tuscarawas St. W, Canton, OH 44702.
Blessings,
Pastor Michael
P.S. We are still hoping that when COVID numbers improve that we can host scriptorium (or socially distanced,
but group writing) days in the newly renovated sanctuary, but this aspect of the project is presently on hold.

Camp Wakonda
COVID-Relief UPDATE
Thank you for continuing to support Camp Wakonda through the
COVID-Relief Fund! So far, we have raised $79,735 of our $100,000 deficit.
LET’S HIT THAT GOAL!
Send a check to the church with “Wakonda COVID-Relief” in the memo
line or go to http://bit.ly/WakondaCovid to make a donation.
Thank you for giving and for your prayers in this challenging time. We are praying for you too!
THINGS AT WAKONDA ARE LOOKING EXCITING
FOR THE SUMMER OF 2021!
We had released a tentative schedule for this coming summer, but we are revising our plans due to
COVID and a potential great opportunity for camp.
For now, we are considering two possible schedules for the summer. We are taking our time with
this because we want to get this summer right! Look for the final schedule to be released in
February.
We are also taking our campers’ health and safety very seriously! So we are looking at all of our
procedures to make them as COVID-safe as possible. Some things to be prepared for in 2021:
♦ All campers, staff, and guests will be required to wear masks during indoor activities (masks
may be removed while sitting to eat at meals) and while unable to maintain social distance
outdoors.
♦ Kitchen staff will wear masks and gloves during all food preparation and service.
♦ Meals will be served cafeteria-style, possibly with a staggered meal schedule.
♦ Guests and family of campers will stay with their vehicle during check-in & pick-up procedures;
arrival times will be staggered (this will be sent to you prior to your camp event).
♦ Campers must turn in a 14-day temperature log at check-in (we will provide this).
♦ A camp staff member will be doing daily temperature checks while campers are on-site.
♦ Cabin groups will be paired, creating small explorer groups, for activities in order to limit
potential whole-camp exposure.
♦ Camp maintenance staff are cleaning and sanitizing high-touch surfaces multiple times each
day.
♦ As we learn more, additional procedures may be added (such as, but not limited to, requiring
testing and/or vaccinations prior to arrival, if available).
We are doing all of this to keep our campers, staff, and guests safe! Please hold Camp Wakonda in
prayer as we prepare for a safe and exciting 2021! Shalom!

Finished! Our beautiful new Chancel in the Sanctuary is now complete!
We have new liturgical furnishings (communion table, pulpit, baptismal font) being built by
Erich Thompson, the designer of our cross, so for now are using the table and font from
our Chapel, and the pulpit is the one from when the church was built in 1871!
Work is now underway on our new main
office making it much more accessible
and welcoming from the parking lot.
An opening was cut out for a new
interior window to increase visibility.
These are some pretty thick walls! Our new Sacristy to hold all of
our Liturgical elements now
located behind the Chancel.
The elevator opening at the parking lot
entry landing was cut out and the landing
is being expanded by pushing the stairs
to the lower level out a couple of feet.
New lighting and landscaping in our parking lot and entrance make
for a beautiful and welcoming entry to CPC!
A new entry to West Hall is being created to make
room for the elevator landing on the main level. The old
doors will be removed so guests will have a clear view
to the new Main Office.

SESSION NOTES—NOVEMBER 17, 2020
Session met via Zoom on November 17, 2020 at 6:30 pm
with a scripture reading from Psalm 137, followed by prayer
from Pastor Dave.
The minutes were approved for the October Session
meeting and the Clerk’s report was received and approved.
TJ Hon delivered the Financial Report. Giving is down,
there was discussion as to why this might be, and a motion was
made to approve the Financial Report as it was given.
Pastor Ben reported that the Camp Covid Relief Fund
continues to grow, the funds are coming in from a myriad of
camp supporters. Camp closing is going well, and Ben reported
that the camp may look the best it has in a while. Work
continues with all aspects of camp whether it be physical or
spiritual. Some staffing positions have already been filled, and
Ben is looking forward to moving into 2021 and seeing what the
new challenges the camp season will bring.
Jennie continues to meet with several of the children’s
groups virtually, and that is going very well. Several of the kids
have told her they can’t wait to watch “her show.” Hopefully,
once we are beyond the season of Covid, she will be available
for autographs. Some of the children are also participating in a
virtual choir. There will be a pre-recorded family Christmas
Eve Service, which is in the works.
Pastor Dave reported that the virtual Bible Studies continue
to thrive, and this is very encouraging to both he and Pastor
Michael. He also stated that we will continue with virtual
communion until further notice. He looks forward to when we
can gather in person again in our newly remodeled spaces.
There will be recorded services held at 6:30 and 10:00 pm on
Christmas Eve this year. There is a plan to possibly hold
Christmas Caroling in the courtyard with all participants
adhering to social distancing guidelines.
Jerry Norton and Jennie George, on behalf of Spirit and
Space, reported that giving is slightly down and there was
discussion as to why this may be. They also reported that
construction in the Sanctuary should wrap up soon and that all
the workers have been a joy to work with. The parking lot
renovation is complete and getting into the church will now be
easier than ever. The new administration area will soon be
underway and should be completed in early 2021.
We continued our meeting passing several motions
including the approval of Technology motion, a motion to
approve the Landscaping as well as paying the per capita for
2020/2021.
We concluded our meeting lifting up the prayers of the
people. The meeting adjourned at 9:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted by Shawn Campbell
Thank you for Helping
Send Love to Porcupine!
Thank you so very much for your
contribution to help make Christmas
happen for our Lakota friends! They
have had a really tough year with Rev.
Looking Elk passing away, the lack of a
minister and the lock down on the Rez
because of Covid. One of the elders
was in the hospital and moved to a
nursing home in Chadron. Both Terry
and Sheryl Looking Elk have had the
virus along with others of the Looking
Elk family. Sheryl had her foot
amputated. LaVonne’s nephew died
from Covid. But they all continue to
persevere! They are witnesses to the
faith and the presence of God in their
lives.
Because of your gracious
donations, we were able to send a
Walmart gift card to each family on our
list from Porcupine Church. Even
more than the gift cards, we sent a
message that they are not forgotten.
Hopefully they feel the Lord’s presence
through our Christmas wishes and
know He loves them!
Please continue to keep them all in
your prayers!
