Meeting called to order Secretaries Report: Membership present approved the November minutes as published in the club’s newsletter. November board minutes were read. Mail was read. Treasurers Report: Marie gave the financial report for November. Presidents Report: Wayne thanked members that stepped up when Redevelopment Authority of the City of Menasha wanted to “blight” our property on Manitowoc Rd. Susan Hayes, Christina Rappel, Jackie Kobierecki and Barb Hoffman headed up getting flyers out to the neighbors and contacting the members of this Redevelopment Authority committee and what ever else they could think of. Christine and Susan did a great job speaking at the meeting with the committee on December 3rd. Well over a 100 people attended the meeting and also State Rep Andre Jacque, so a great turnout for sure. We dodged the bullet this time but don’t believe it is over yet. Wayne thanked our three directors of training also, Kayla Baudhuin, Shannon Tischer and Gayle Kukulka for a great job with our classes this past year. You are all doing a fantastic job!!

Membership: Prospective new members introduced themselves and they were welcomed by the membership present. Thank you Louse Torkelson for the assist. 50/50 Raffle: Gayle Kukulka introduced herself and said she would be going around and selling tickets with the drawing to be held shortly after the meeting is over. Meagan Kukulka assisted. K-9 Kloset: Linda Milliren mentioned that we have new items!!! Come on back and check this out! Winter Show: Pat Erickson said that they are in need of help for the show. Parking and clean-up are two big items where we could use the helping hands. The show is January 11 & 12, 2020 at the Sunnyview Expo Center in Oshkosh. Parking people will earn double hours with a minimum of 2 hours at the gate! Members who volunteer for parking or clean-up at our Winter Show may apply their hours to either 2019 or 2020, so, if you still need hours for 2019, this will be your last chance to earn them.

Margie Hohman said she will send around sign-up sheets on a clip board for the different areas that help is needed. So please sign-up. Ring Stewarding: Margie Hohman also mentioned that on Sunday January 5 at 1 pm here at the club they will be having a short class on ring stewarding for the show. Come out and refresh your memory or learn what is needed to do this important job. Traveling Trophies: Laura Steidl said it is important to get your wins together and turn them into her in January. The information for these trophies is on our website, look for forms and you will find the information needed. Any questions please give her a call. Awards: Jackie Kobierecki said that she and co-chair Carol Lenz are looking forward to receiving the information for the awards that you have earned this past year. So, gather up the information for all the titles you have earned and turn in to either her or Carol. All the information for this is in the newsletter and on our club’s website. Also remember that those whose dogs have earned an award plaque for previous titles, this is a perpetual award plaque and they have a box in the office where the plaques can be put so they can have the new titles added. Jackie said that because of the interest in nose work we are forming a new group on Winnegamie Dog club’s Facebook page, Winnegamie Dog Club Nose Work Group. So, check it out and let’s learn more together. Parades: Penney Garbe thanked all the members that came out and walked in the Christmas parade in Appleton. It was a great turn out of members!! Thank You!! Budgets: Barb Hoffman reported that she is later than usual for our budgets but she did send a notice to all chairs and please respond so she can get the budgets approved at the board meeting and then by membership at the January membership meeting.

Membership: Marie said don’t forget to get your dues in by the end of the month!! Forms are up here on the table if you need one Wall Plaques: Amie Kading introduce herself as the new chair for our wall plaques. The form is in the newsletter, so fill it out and get to her by the end of January. WDC recognizes all AKC titles that you can earn with your dog.

Minutes Continued:

Nominations: Tom Wiesler asked if there were any nominations from the floor. Since there were none the nominations are closed. Tom introduced those running for the board to the membership President: Christina Rappel Vice President: Margie Hohman Treasurer: Marie Murphy Secretary: Linda Milliren Board: Barb Hoffman, Jackie Kobierecki Voting for the board position will be held at the January membership meeting. Agility: Nancy Zolkowski thanked all the members that came out and helped both days for the agility trials held in Oshkosh. We couldn’t do it without all your help.

Canine CPR and First Aid Class: Len Hoehne said that he and Patty will be continuing doing this class next year. They are hoping to expand and bring in more of the general public in the future. Pet Expo: Len also told us that the display board that he uses at the Pet Expo needs updating and looking for help with it. The information on it is pretty out dated and could use some up to date photos. If interested in helping please contact Len. Legislative: Deb Krsnich told members that this is a good time to think carefully before you donate. The ads are out there to pull your heart strings but many of the organizations do nothing for the pets they are depicting.

DOT: Shannon Tischer thanked all the trainers and helpers that worked in our training program this past year. We couldn’t do this without you. Our classes are expanding and we are offering more classes to try and keep up. We have two trainer/helper meetings coming up with the first being on Monday December 30th at 7 pm or you can come on Saturday January 4th at 10 am. Remember you only need to attend one of these. We want to thank Bruce Ziesemer also for all he does for our classes. It is not an easy job and he does it very well. Again, thank you Bruce!! Cry and brag was conducted Motion made and approved to adjourn Respectfully submitted Gail VanDenLangenberg Secretary

Slate of Nominees for the 2020 Executive Board

Linda Milliren, Secretary. WDC member since 2013. Chaired K-9 Closet committee. I have not had any leadership positions at the club but did a lot of committee work while working for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. I was a member of the state committee for policy for the Division of Adult Institutions. This group writes all of the non-security policy and procedures for the prisons for incarcerated adults. I was also on committees for the prison division for Disruptive Groups (Gangs) and Emergency Response Units (Riot Squads). Both of these groups wrote policy and procedures for the prisons.

Margie Hohman, Vice-President. Club member since 1979, former WDC obedience trainer, Co-chair of fun match and stewards for winter show. I am actively showing in conformation, agility, rally, obedience. I own a boarding/grooming kennel and have been involved in Irish setter rescue since 1981.

Christina Rappel, President. Club member since 2014. Has held the following offices: Appleton Downtown Inc. Marketing Board Member 2005, 2006, Great Lakes Irish Wolfhound Association Fun Match Co-Chair 2019, 2020, and chair of the WDC Seminars committee. Slate of Nominees for the 2020 Executive Board

Barbara Hoffman, Board. Club member since 2004. Board Member since 2009. Current committee chairs include Budget Committee and Committee on Committees. Served as Director of Beginner Obedience for a couple of years before joining the Board. I currently help with the evening training classes with puppy classes being my favorite class. As a Board Member I facilitated refinancing the loan on our building so the Club was able to get out of debt sooner, assisted with the review/rewrite of our Constitution and Bylaws, and most recently worked very hard with a small group of fellow members to fight the potential ‘blighting’ of our Club property. I am actively showing or competing in conformation, agility, rally and obedience, with other venues to consider with my Australian Shepherds.

Jackie Kobierecki, Board. Following a long career as a Nurse Epidemiologist and Quality Improvement at St Elizabeth Hospital, I started taking lessons at Winnegamie Dog Club. I have 2 Australian shepherds who are my partners in canine activities & competition. I have been a member for almost 8 years. Currently, I teach Rally classes and nose work classes. In addition, I am certified AKC CGC and Tricks evaluator. For the past 3 years, I have co-chaired the Recognition Awards. I also enjoy volunteering many hours at dog club events and enjoy the company of other members. My greatest accomplishment – starting Nose Work NACSW classes and completing my Certification in National Association Canine Scent Work.

The 2020 elections will be held at the membership meeting on Thursday January 2nd.

WDC Battles the City of Menasha WDC recently found itself in a legal battle to save our property. On November 14th, the club received a registered letter from the City of Menasha Redevelopment Authority (RDA) informing us that our property was one of several along Manitowoc Road that they intended to designate as “blighted,” a legal strategy that would have enabled the City of Menasha to use Eminent Domain to acquire our property. Members quickly mobilized to learn more about the statutes involved and the motives behind this unexpected move by the city. Knowing that this would affect the entire neighborhood, a group of club members canvassed the area, informing people about an upcoming meeting of the RDA that would be open to the public, at which they would vote on the areas to be “blighted.” We also invited members of the RDA, as well as the Community Development Director to visit our club and see for themselves that we have a clean, well-maintained facility that in no way meets the definition of the term “blighted.” We also pointed out the many contributions that WDC makes to the local community and beyond through our training classes, seminars, events, outreach activities, and donations. We were amazed at the amount of support that our club received, not only from our members and neighbors, but from people who had formerly taken our classes or had attended events at our facility. Even the Fox Valley Cat Club came out to support us! WFRV and WBAY both did news stories about our struggle. In the end, we were successful in convincing the committee that WDC is an asset to the City of Menasha and our property, along with the other private businesses on Manitowoc Road, was removed from the list of “blighted” properties. Thank you to everyone who showed their support during this trying time. It really made us appreciate the wonderful members that we have and the amount of dedication they have to the welfare of their dogs. WDC Board of Directors

Winter Agility Trial We experienced Mother Nature in a winter storm November 30th and December 1st. This was not what we hoped for but the competitors came and made the weekend fun. We delayed the trial start time on Sunday to 9:00 a.m. to give those who were traveling any distance a chance to get to the Agility Trial at Oshkosh Kennel Club safe and in daylight. We had some that were not able to make it, but those that did had fun and some successful runs. Thank you to our volunteers for all of your help. Some lost electricity and did not make it right away but showed up when they could. Karen Combs was our secretary for the weekend. Mike Evarts chief course builder and also came Friday to set the course up with Margie Hohman and Terri Bartz. We had many new helpers this year and many course builders. The following people helped in many different jobs: Peggy Stevens, Sue Beck, Cory Wasinger, Mike Ziegenbein, Carrie McCook, Hayley Cullen, Lori Koehler and Foreign Student, Diane Kruse, Pam Conine, Janice Swindell, Minna Nousiainen-Becker, Lisa Jacobson, Cindy Veit, Robin Zellner, Julie Hahnemann, Ann Birdsall, Sara Konecke, Jan Riehl, Laura Inman, Margie Hohman, Terri Bartz, Becky Koutnik, and Shelly Vander Wielen. Mary Jo Plamann was our ribbon person. Thanks Everyone and have a Happy New Year. Nancy Zolkowski
