NEW TEACHING SERIES Our lives are like lumps of clay on a potter’s wheel. Form, function, and beauty appear as God, the Potter, shapes us with his hands. He is in the business of molding our common lives—even the ugly parts—into something wonderful!

Over the first ten weeks of the New Year we will be studying through the book of Colossians, and discovering how to place our lives in the secure hands of God. If you long to experience newness of life—this study will point the way. If you desire to see God mold and shape your spiritual life, home, workplace, church, and relationships—Colossians will teach you the pathway to a whole new you.

Messy Grace is a video study that combines biblical teaching from Caleb Kaltenbach, a pastor with gay parents, with stirring testimonies from an author with a transgender sister, a college student who lived a double life, a former lesbian hip-hop artist; now married to a man, and a celibate pastor who's same-sex attracted. This 4-episode series will in-spire & empower Christ followers to completely love their LGBT neighbors (and any other neighbor) while remaining committed to Scripture.

Family Movie Night Sunday, January 15th

Doors open at 5:00pm Movie starts at 5:30pm $1 per person to cover cost of snack foods. (pay at the door) Bring your comfortable lawn chair to sit in Wear your comfy pajamas and funny footie slippers.

Time magazine had an article discussing the importance of snug-gling/cuddling with babies and toddlers. One area of their research showed that Oxytocin (the feel-good, bonding hormone) increased in the baby and the one cuddling the baby. The Oxytocin also low-ered stress hormones in the adult cuddling the child too.

WHO LOVES TO BE STRESSED AND ANGRY???!!!!??? Yeah, that is a pretty silly question. Jesus gets to the point in Mark 12:31 by stating “Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”

I believe that this commandment was given because Jesus knew the benefits of loving others. Over Thanksgiving many of the PCC fami-lies loved on people by preparing and delivering meals. I did not see one person irritated or unloving after that experience of love. Dur-ing the Perry Helping Perry Christmas I did not see one volunteer complaining or being disrespectful while they loved on families as they assisted them during their shopping time. This love thing works.

Well this may be a crazy transition to a point that I want to make. We have children, teens, babies and toddlers that need to be loved on in this church. Each of the following areas needs people to serve and be with children: Toddler/Nursery (cuddling babies), ELEVATE, Sunday school (children & teens), and Club 56. Each area needs people to talk about love, share love and show love. These areas are ready for you to come and get a dose of Oxytocin.

Parenting Tip - Do We Teach Honor or Respect? When families think about honor, they often restrict their thinking to respectful

behavior, being polite, courteous, and having good manners. This is a rather

narrow understanding and is only a small portion of what honor actually is.

Respectful behavior, although a subset of honor, is incomplete in and of itself.

Susie learned manners at an early age. "What a nice girl," people would say.

Susie learned acceptable behavior but as she grew older she rebelled against the

rules, finding them empty and overly restrictive. Teaching respect is not enough.

Honor comes when you recognize a person's worth or value. Respect focuses on

behavior, doing the appropriate thing, whereas honor comes from the heart.

Respect acknowledges a person's position, while honor attaches worth to that

person. Respect teaches manners and proper behavior in the presence of others.

Honor teaches something deeper, an appreciation of that person.

Respect can become an outward technique to make a family look good to

others, but honor builds the hidden bonds that provide great strength and

long-lasting unity. It's one thing to obey the crossing guard out of respect for his

position. It's yet another to show honor to him because you know him as a friend.

Although we're making a contrast between respect and honor, don't assume

that honor is good and respect is bad. Both have their place. When children are

young, they learn respectful behavior, but as they grow older, they can develop a

heart response of honor as well. It's good to teach respectful behavior but it's important that you not stop there. Honor adds a deeper dimension to

relationships.

Honor deals with meanness in relationships. Honor does a job thoroughly and

with a good attitude. Honor looks for what needs to be done before being asked.

All children (and adults) need to learn honor. Teaching it makes a big difference in

family life. This parenting tip comes from the book, Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining, and Bad Atti-tudes in You and Your Kids, by Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller, RN, BSN. If you'd like to receive tips yourself, you can sign up at www.biblicalparenting.org.

Mid-Year Parent-Teacher Conferences for preschool families will be offered January 23-26. This will be a great opportunity to review mid-year assessments and goals for your child. Sign-up sheets will be posted on the bulletin board across from the Noah’s Ark classroom the week of January 9.

Family Ministry

WOW, what a crazy past few months. We have come together as a church and partnered with the community to help tons of people in need these past few months. Between the Thanksgiving Outreach that prepared and delivered over 1,600 meals as a part of almost 10,000 meals county wide, the Perry Helping Perry Christmas give away that saw 100+ Perry families given a hand up, and to the many who have partnered with our other ministry partners recently. I’m truly amazed with all that has been accomplished and look forward to see what God is going to do in the coming year. I can’t / don’t thank you all enough for stepping up repeatedly when God calls us as a church to step up to reach out. You encourage me daily and I am thankful you all.

In Him Alone,

Max

Foster Parent Training Classes

Right now in the state of the Ohio, there are 12,500 children in need of a foster home. In the words of nationally known foster care advocate Katie Overstreet, “It’s important to recognize foster kids need help just as much as orphans anywhere else in the world.”

For those interested in becoming a foster family, Encompass Foster Care and Adoption will be providing a series of free training classes that are required to become a licensed foster parent. These classes will begin January 7 and will take place at Christian Children’s Home of Ohio’s Retreat Center located at 2685 Armstrong Rd., Wooster. Classes will be held each Satur-day from 9 AM-4 PM for six consecutive weeks, wrapping up on February 11. Those interested in registering for the classes or learning more information, may contact Angel Sigler at (330) 345-7949 ext. 2543 or [email protected].

Additional information about foster care and adoption can be found at www.encompasscenters.org.
