Through obedience to the gospel, we die to the old man

of sin, and are made alive to God in Christ Jesus (Rom. 6:1-4, 8-11).

What does it mean for one to be raised to walk in newness of life?

Introduction

Page 3: Newness of Life

When one is raised to walk in newness of life, he is a

new creature/creation (2 Cor. 5:16-17; Gal. 6:14-15). The old self must be laid aside, replaced by the

spiritually-renewed self which is made in the likeness of God (Eph. 4:17-24, 25-32).

New Creature/Creation

When one is raised to walk in newness of life, he

follows a new commandment, loving God and man (Matt. 22:36-40; John 13:34-35).

Failure in either regard is deadly serious (John 5:39-42; 1 John 3:11-18).

New Commandment

Page 5: Newness of Life

When one is raised to walk in newness of life, he is

obedient to a new covenant (Jer. 31:31-34; Heb. 8:7-13).

Instituted with the shed blood of Jesus (Luke 22:20; 1 Cor. 11:25), this covenant is written, not on tablets of stone, but upon fleshly tablets of the heart (2 Cor. 3:1-6).

New Covenant

When one is raised to walk in newness of life, he enjoys

a new connection (Acts 2:38-47; Eph. 2:11-22). In this spiritual family, God is our Heavenly Father,

Christ is our elder brother, and fellow-disciples are our brothers and sisters.

New Connection

Page 7: Newness of Life

When one is raised to walk in newness of life, he is

focused on a new goal – a new heavens and a new earth (2 Pet. 3:8-13).

Any who would legitimately hope for such must be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless (2 Pet. 3:14-18).
