Managers Message —by Anthony Chelena

Many thanks to all

the Members who

completed the Food

& Beverage survey

in December. We’ve

conducted these

surveys many times

over the years and the scores are very

important to us. The general feedback

portions are also an important part of

the survey and every comment is taken

seriously. The survey is completely

anonymous, unless you are the one

Member who always talks to me about

hushpuppies and you again wrote

about hushpuppies in your survey. (I’m

joking about this because I know Mr.

Hushpuppies will find it funny.) As I

am writing today we have a very large

response rate for the survey and I expect

more responses. Members responding

to the survey were overwhelmingly “A”

Members and mostly 71-80 years old. Since

I focus most on the negatives- 7% of our

respondents reported they were dissatisfied

with the Grill and 10% of respondents

reported they were dissatisfied with the

Clubhouse. “A” Members tend to rate

the Grill better than the Clubhouse and

“C” Members tend to rate the Clubhouse

better than the Grill. This has been a

consistent finding every time we have

conducted the survey. Regardless, we know

we can improve everywhere and we look

forward to it. The data and comments

will be instrumental. Thanks to all for

participating.

HUGE congratulations are in order for

Golf Professional Jay King for winning

a prestigious honor in December. The

Carolinas Section of the PGA (covers all

of North and South Carolinas and part

of Virginia) awarded Jay their Player

Development Award for the many

activities he has orchestrated to attract new

golfers. Examples include his beginner golf

clinics, his SNAG Golf activities, Junior

PGA program, and teaching at the Boys &

Girls Club. Think of how important player

development is to the game of golf, then

think of how many PGA professionals

there are in the Carolinas. It’s a great honor

for Jay and for Hendersonville Country

Club. Way to go Jay!

Golf Tips —by Jay King

New Years Resolution: A promise you make yourself to start doing something

good or to stop doing something bad.

It’s that time of the year again. Time to

take a step back to re-evaluate your life

goals over the past year and plan new

goals/resolutions for this New Year.

Below are some golf related resolutions

you may consider.

1. Have FUN! I believe it is safe to

say that we all take this game a little

too seriously. Sure golf requires

concentration, but the main reason

we play is for fun. We are outside,

amongst friends, and away from

the office. Your attitude can have an

impact on how you play, so enjoy

and respect the game!

2. Take a lesson early in the year. Instructional changes take time,

so get out early and see where you

need improvement most. This will

allow for a longer year of good golf.

3. Practice with a purpose. Concentrate on each shot on the

range. Practice your pre-shot

routine that you will use on the

course. Aim at different targets and

switch clubs after every few shots.

4. Finish with the clubhead low on your chips and short pitches. Having a low finish on your short

shots will allow more solid impact.

This will allow you to never scoop

your shots from around the greens.

5. Kiss your left shoulder at the top of your driver swing. Doing this

on the range and with practice will

insure a full shoulder turn and an

increase in clubhead speed through

the ball.

6. Stretch more. Flexibility is excellent

for golf. It is important to stretch

before and after golf.

7. Play from the correct set of tees. Enjoy golf this year by playing from

a distance that you can enjoy. The

handicap system is set up where you

can compete from different tees.

Try a round of golf from a shorter

tee box (that you haven’t tried) this

year.

Happy New Year! Looking forward to

having fun on the course this year!

Golf News—by Ben Balentine

Now that the holiday season is

over and we are counting the

pounds we put on over the past

five or six weeks, it’s time to turn

our attention to getting into

shape for golf in the spring! The best way to do this

is not to randomly exercise, but rather to employ the

best specific exercises. Stretching has been proven to

produce great results for golf fitness. As we get older

we lose the ability to make a full shoulder turning

motion, which in turn causes a loss in distance and a

creeping up of the handicap. If you would like more

information on some effective stretching exercises

please give me a call or come by the golf shop.

The golf staff would like to thank the members for

your support over the past year. We had a good

year in merchandise sales and with your continued

support we can make 2015 even better. Please

remember that the club gives you a 20% discount

on all merchandise. This allows us to sell quality

merchandise at a fair and reasonable price. We

encourage you to compare our prices on clubs and

golf balls before shopping elsewhere. Don’t forget

your gift certificates must be used by April 30, 2015.

We also would like to thank our members for their

generous gifts to the employee Christmas fund. You

have enabled us to give our families a much bigger

and better Christmas. Happy New Year to all!

Please check out the 2015 Tournament Schedule and

mark your calendar for the upcoming events you
