TRIBUTE TO A VISIONARY After 17 years in leadership roles at the Boca Raton Resort and Club , resort President and longtime supporter of the Palm Beach International Film Festival (PBIFF) David Feder officially retired from the resort last month after it was sold to new ownership. Feder has been a pioneer for the PBIFF, supporting the festival in several ways including providing lodging for attendees and hosting the Gala for the last several years. “It is a quality event receiving worldwide press attention. I have always felt the publicity and event were good for Palm Beach County.” At the 2004 Festival, Feder was given the Founder’s Award for outstanding service and dedication to the festival. “My family and I hope to stay in the area,” he says. “It has been a pleasure and a passion to be here.” LOCAL MUNICIPALITIES PLAY KEY ROLE IN WRAPPING FEATURE FILM Thanks to the joint effort of various municipalities and government agencies within Palm Beach County, The Boynton Beach Bereavement Club wrapped an aggressive six-week filming schedule last month in southern PBC. The feature film, directed by Susan Seidelman and starring film legends Dyan Cannon, Sally Kellerman, Brenda Vaccaro, Joseph Bologna and Michael Nouri, chose Boynton Beach and Delray Beach for most of the filming. “It is an exciting thing for our community to have the high caliber of this business. It is sure to spread the word about us,” said Diana Johnson, President of the Greater Boynton Beach Chamber of Commerce. Special thanks to Diana, Wally Majors with the City of Boynton Beach, Ivan Ladizinsky, Bob Barcinski, Mayor Jeff Perlman and Vice Mayor Jon Levinson with the City of Delray Beach, the Florida Department of Transportation, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and the Palm Beach County Road and Bridge Division for the successful coordination of many aspects of this film. The film called the G-Star School for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach home for the duration of filming, utilizing the school’s production space and students for various roles. Jamin O’Brien, the film’s producer, said, “The facility was incredible, we had no idea how much we were going to benefit from the space and talented students.” The ease of working with these individuals and county agencies creates a film friendly environment for the visiting production industry. Dyan Cannon Sally Kellerman Brenda Vaccaro CONFERENCE TO FEATURE SESSION ON U.S./CHINA FILMING PARTNERSHIP Monte Young with American Rhino Productions in Palm Beach Gardens is currently working on a co-production deal with China to produce a feature film about a man placed into the witness protection program by the FBI. The film will be shot both in Palm Beach County and Anyang, China. Young, who spent eight- years in Asia as a project finance lawyer, has partnered with Xiaodi Wu, a former colleague and member of the China World Trade Association and China World Economy Association. Young said, “The market is opening up there, so the timing is good to get started on the project.” Young and Wu have been asked to speak at the World Trade Center North American Regional Meeting, February 3-6, about the project, doing business in general in China and U.S.-Chinese business relations from a cultural standpoint. Al Zucaro, Chairman of the World Trade Center Palm Beach, says, “We are very excited about working with Mr. Young and Mr. Wu in this regard as an expanding economic base for the advancement of culture and commerce globally for our community in general.” The conference will also include a keynote address by World Trade Center Association President, Guy Tazzoli.
