is imperative that Jamaat members bring the card that is sent out to them. With larger than usual number of people expected at the Jalsa, if we receive a major influx of members around critical time who either did not register or forgot to bring their card, it can cause severe strain on the system hence longer lines and processing time. “It is essential that those who are able to afford to travel should attend the Jalsa which is in so many ways a source of blessings. They should not mind minor losses in the way. God gives ample rewards to sincere believers at every step and no hardship or trouble goes to waste (it is definitely rewarded by God). I should like to make it clear that this Jalsa must not be taken like other gatherings. This is a special event that has been based on the succor of God.” (Ishtihar, 7 December 1891)

K e e p i n g S i l e n c e f o r J a l s a Two effective ways of keeping silence during proceedings at Jalsa are: ♦ Out of respect for those in prayer, if our prayer is completed we should wait with those who are praying in prayerful silence. ♦ Out of respect for those giving a speech we should listen quietly and not engage in our own conversations. In order to increase in our capacity for this important discipline, it will be helpful to practice keeping silence in groups. During such time e n g a g e y o u r s e l f i n remembrance of Allah. A large group of people keeping s i lence whi le gathered together is an extraordinary

experience. Each of us in that group connects deeply within ourselves to be in quiet conversation with Allah, and it fills each heart with intense satisfaction. The silence becomes a powerful presence that no one wishes to break. As we achieve this kind of c o n t e n t m e n t w i t h i n ourselves we will want to use it during prayer times when others are praying or when there is a need for silence. We will also increase our capacity to be listeners. We will realize that distractions of any kind during the proceedings harm our Jalsa experience, and in fact may deprive us

of it altogether. Let us all work together in our practice of keeping silence so that we may: ♦ Derive much benefit for ourselves ♦ Keep the privilege of attending Jalsa ♦ Continue to enjoy our beloved Huzoor’saba address to the Lajna When you arrive at Jalsa and you hear the Adhan for Jummah, come quietly in to the Jalsa Gah, making your rows straight and leaving no gaps. Engage in prayer and remembrance of Allah. Save your greetings for later. Remember the silence you found in your heart!

By the Grace of Allah and according to Huzoor’s (aba) instructions, children and mothers with young children will have their own Jalsa Gah this year. For the past few years, we have been offering a special program for children ages 5—10 in the children’s tent at Jalsa. However, with growing interest and increasing number of children registered comes challenges. Children’s Jalsa Gah will be a full size, air conditioned hall with it’s own stage set up as well as other amenities available in the Ladies Hall. (i.e. Large screen audio/video setup, carpeted and chair-seating areas etc.) Convenient stroller parking will be provided and the hall is in close proximity with Ziafat (dining) hall for mothers and children’s convenience. An enclosed private area will also be set up in this hall for nursing mothers.

Again, we plan to have a well structured program for three age groups (5—6, 7—8, and 9—10). The objective is to gradually train our children to listen and appreciate the Jalsa while a l lowing for a fun , educational, and Islamic environment. The following are just some of the activities planned for this year: ☺ Listening to & discussing

select Jalsa topics ☺ Islamic etiquettes ☺ Islamic songs and poems ☺ Islamic stories/Creative

writing ☺ Islamic projects ☺ Arts & Crafts ☺ Prayers and Ahadith ☺ Sports & Games ☺ Snacks & Lunch The children will be in a supervised environment at all times with at least one leader and one assistant for each group in activities area. Turning up late and leaving early without permission affects the whole organization. If for a genuine reason you are unable to attend, please give enough notice so alternative arrangements can be made.

◊ Please work only in the areas assigned to you. Do not change duties on your own accord, as it causes confusion.

◊ It cannot be emphasized enough that we should be patient and polite at all times. Our guests have spent time, money and effort to attend this Jalsa. If a guest complains about inappropriate behavior from a volunteer, her duty badge will be taken

◊ You are fortunate to have the privilege to serve the guests of the Promised Messiahas. The examples of the Holy Prophetsaw and the Promised Messiahas are guidelines for us. We expect all duty holders to abide by these guidelines.

◊ Seek Allah's help through prayer so that He enables you to perform your duty in the best possible manner.

◊ A duty list has been prepared by Nazima Hazri Nigrani. Members will be informed of their duties individually. If for any reason you cannot do the duty allocated to you, please inform her immediately.

◊ Punctuality is important. Your presence during the time of duty is a must.

away. ◊ All volunteers have only

one purpose, and that is to make the Jalsa a success. Please do not interfere with each other's duty.

◊ Any complaints or feedback should go through the proper channels. If you have suggestions, inform your Nazima.

◊ While on duty, keep the dignity of the office in mind. Consider yourself as a role model and a representative of the USA Jamaat. Unnecessary talking sets a bad example, please refrain from it.

◊ No jobs should be considered below one’s dignity. Surely all reward is with Allah and He does not like arrogance.
