In the wake of growing competitive

environment, the young students not only need

subject content knowledge and understanding,

but also a positive & creative mind.

It is always our endeavor & with this spirit

MAEER’s MIT Group of institutions has always

maintained the tradition of providing a platform

for students to exhibit & express their creativity

and literary talents. ‘JAGRUTI’ is one such Annual

Magazine, which reflects & portrays all types of

literary talents & it has proved to be a very good

opening for the young undergraduate students of

MAEER’s MITSOM College,Pune.

It is a matter of great pride and pleasure

to observe that the “JAGRUTI” annual magazine

has persistently garnered the much needed

environment in gradually improving itself and I

find that the individual contributors have shown

great talent not just by publishing informative

articles, but also have pen down various articles

& papers to reproduce lucid and expressive forms

of poetry and art etc..

I hope and feel confident that the Editorial

Committee of “JAGRUTI”, which includes faculty

members and the students, deserve a word of

appreciation and hearty congratulations for

their outstanding efforts in putting together the

wonderful Magazine for the academic year 2012-

2013.

I wish the students a great success in all

their future endeavors and literary dreams.

I have always believed that pursuit of academic

work in educational institutions must be combined

with sincere activities towards fulfillment of larger

perspectives and objectives of life. While chasing

your academic dreams, I would also like you

to seek adventure and test your limits, not just

academically but in all spheres of your personality

and character development. This assumes greater

relevance at a time when we are acutely alarmed

about the decline in sensitivity and involvement

of youth in societal and national causes.

Currently, the youth are living through a period of

excessive pessimism and negativism. Some of this

is natural as our society has been experiencing a

‘revolution of rising expectations’. Hopes are high,

but are often not realized. This breeds cynicism.

But by remaining in isolation and drawing negative

notions and perceptions towards politicians and

political parties will not lead us anywhere. We will

have to understand that success of any economic

system depends ultimately on the mindset of

people who impact the nation’s life by their crucial

decisions. Governance and democracy cannot

remain the agenda and prerogative of only few;

rather it has to be inclusive and representative

of the face of a young and resurgent India. Our

youth must be attuned to the expectations of our

democracy. Naturally, the first step towards this

goal is informed participation.

I compliment you for your creative energy and

visible efforts in bringing out another masterpiece,

in the form of annual edition of ‘Jagruti’. It is only

due to your unrelenting effortsand unflinching

support of our faculty members, the magazine

has become a much awaited publication.

I am indeed struck by the endeavor, talent and energy personified by this institution, which I am proud

to serve as the principal of MAEER’s MITSOM College, Pune

Our institute believes in inculcating the talents amongst students thus bridging the gap between literacy

and education.

Our students have showcased their literary talents and writing skills through this springboard called

‘Jagruti’ which helps them to explore their untapped talent.

The response towards the magazine has been heartwarming.

I take this opportunity to congratulate the students and other members involved in this magazine for

their fruitful efforts. With the help of all faculty members and students our MITSOM College achieved

Grade A in NAAC with an CGPA Of 3.37 out of 4 in 2014.

Wishing you success always ........

5TH BHARATIYA CHHATRA SANSAD

“The Largest Classroom in India to evolve Future Political Leaders”

Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad is an apolitical platform on which student leaders from all ideologies - political, religious, sectarian or otherwise - assemble to voice their opinions. The effort is to sensitize the youth about the ideals of democracy by exposing them to all views and opinions. The objective is also to sensitize them towards political processes with a view to bringing them into the political mainstream. The Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad also aims to provide a feedback to the government in order to help it formulate policies for the youth and other sectors, by ascertaining the pulse of the people through the medium of youth.

Thus, Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad is the perfect reflection of democracy in full function, irrespective of political, religious, sectarian or any other ideologies.

Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (Indian Student Parliament) established in 2011, is an extension of MAEER’s MIT School of Government, Pune, which has brought out classroom training to a larger canvas by transforming the outlook of thousands of youth and reaffirming their respect for politics, political leaders, democracy and its institutions.

Indian politicians cutting across the party lines have unconditionally supported the idea of MAEER’s MIT School of Government and the concept and relevance of Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad. MUSIC CLUB

Musiclub was very active and performed exceptionally well in the year 2014 – 15. Here’s a brief of the Events conducted by them.

Club Opening

Date : 12th July ‘14

Musiclub kicked off the start of the academic year with a superb performance during the Club Opening ceremony.

A wide range of songs were performed by the talented musicians!

“Breathless” was performed acapella by Nikee, Shweta and Ria. An instrumental piece on Flute and Dholak, played by Krishna and Dhanesh soothed the audience.

The chartbusters “Galiyaan” by Aditya and Shreya and “Ilahi” by Suraj got the crowd singing along!

The final heavy rock song Zinda” by Pranav got the crowd ecstatic and screaming along the lyrics of the song.

Enthusia

Date : 14th August ‘14

This time, Musiclub took to the big stage at Swami Vivekanand Hall. Remixed renditions of “Chahu Mai Ya Na” by Shweta and Aniket and “Mann Mera” by Suraj and Ria excited everyone. Tahas version of “Jee Lay Zara” touched the hearts of every person in the grand auditorium.

Manavyva Orphanage

Date : 21st September ‘14

21st of September was a very special day for every member of Musiclub. On this day, they decided

to bring a tinkle of joy into the lives of some underprivileged and orphaned kids. They visited the Manavya Orphanage and interacted with the tiny tots. Later they played along some popular songs including Nursery rhymes.

The gratefulness showed by these tots who were happy with so little in life, brought a tear of joy to every musicians eye.

It brought in us a sense of gratefulness, thankfulness and value for all that we have.

Guitar Workshops

Date started : 30th August ‘14

One of the principles of Musiclub is to share the love of music.

It’s not enough to just play an instrument, the real pleasure comes from teaching someone that instrument.

This purpose was served by conducting regular guitar training workshops. These workshops were Free and Open not just to members but, all the students as well as teaching/non-teaching faculties of the college.

These weekly sessions received tremendous popularity from eager wannabe musicians. Every Saturday, these eager students gathered around to learn to strum the guitar.

Music Video for Sprite

Date : 17th October ‘14

One of the biggest highlights this year for Musiclub was when five of its members got selected to record a Music video for Sprite. They were lucky enough to be the select few from Maharashtra. They recorded a “Cup Song - Mera Mann”, which has received almost 2,00,000 views on YouTube!

The popularity of this video fetched them the opportunity to fly to Delhi and record another music video with Salim-Sulaiman.

This achievement has made not just Musiclub but, the entire college proud of them.

Teachers Day

Date : 5th September ‘14

A ‘Retro’ theme was observed by the Musicians. The performers stepped on stage clad in Retro outfits reminiscent of the 70’s. Nostalgic classics from the 60’s and 70’s were performed.

‘Chura Liya’ by Nikee was met by cheers and whistles from the crowd. The upbeat song, ‘Tareef Karoon kya Uski’ perfomed by Aamir made the audience energetic and the faculty members nostalgic.

10th Year Celebration

Date : 21st September ‘14

Musiclub decided to do something different on this occasion. A classical arrangement on Tabla and Harmonium accompanied Shrirangs melodic voice. Next they performed songs that were both inspirational and patriotic – “Aashayein” by Aastha and Aishwarya and “Vande Mataram” by Raj. All 3 songs received wholesome praise from the audience of dignitaries.

Synergy

Date : 22nd January ‘15

Undoubtedly the biggest and most extravagant performance of the year was put up during Synergy. 40 Musicians worked hard and practiced day in and day out for one whole month to put up a stellar show for the packed pandal.

A total of 11 songs were performed back to back without a break. This feat was achieved due to the extraordinary dedication of the Musicians.

The songs varied in genres and musical styles. From soft renditions of “Samjhawan”, “Who ladki hai Kaha”, “Love is besht of time” to a “Retro Mashup”. From “Tu Jaane na” and “Aashayein” to complex and heavy songs like “Aadat”, “Madari” and the head banging hit “Pichle 7 din”. The set list was closed off by a surprise mashup of popular Arijit songs by the Musiclub Executive Committee.

These awe inspiring hits were met with widespread cheers and shouts from the energised crowd.

Contrary to what many believe, the success of Music club this year was not a one man show. It was the result of one word – “Teamwork”.

As Helen Keller once said - “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much”.

Page 35: JAGRUTI - mitsomcollege.edu.inmitsomcollege.edu.in/pdf/Jagruti - 2015.pdf · visible efforts in bringing out another masterpiece, in the form of annual edition of ‘Jagruti’. It

33

This is a philosophy followed by Musiclub. There is strength only in Teamwork. There is strength only in Unity.

The triumphs that we have achieved were only possible because of the collective efforts of Musiclub.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank the Executive Committee of Musiclub; Vice President - Cecil

John, Secretary - Rohan Ingalgaonkar & Treasurer – Pranav Pathak. And finally, the hardworking Singers, Guitarists, Drummers, Keyboardists, Tabla players and Bassists of Musiclub, it could not have been possible without your love and support. Thanks for giving me this opportunity to serve as your Club President.

Adventure and trekking Club had also joined and supported the “Temple Run” as volunteers organised by “BackPack Outdoors” Organisation. The Main aim of the event was to to promote health and fitness.

Club had also given full support to celebrate the MIT-SOM College’s 10th Year Celebration. In the months from August to December, club has also given support to Patriotic Club in their trip to Tank Museum in Aurangabad and Photography Club in their Bhimashanker trip.

In the month of January 2015, Club had taken initiative to make College Sweatshirts for the students of MIT-SOM College. From taking the orders to delivering the sweatshirts, Adventure and Trekking Club Team along with College G.Secretary had done great job.

Club’s Second Main big event was “Tikona trek”.

In the Month of February, Club had organized a trek to the tikona fort near kashig village, Pune,

Maharashtra .on the 8th of February 2015, at 7:00 a.m. we began on our journey to tikona fort with 66 students on board along with 3 faculty members of our college and 5 trekking experts.

Students had their breakfast and tea in a local hotel. We reached our destination village around 10.00am. I and Expert’s gave us some information about the fort and told us about its rich heritage. Club had given white caps to everyone. After we were instructed, we began with our trek with a hunger for adventure in us.

The route, being a long one, was filled with different sorts of experiences for different people. Walking through the hills, through fields, on slopes, on narrow roads with valleys on both sides of the road etc. was dangerous but amazing. Students trying to help each other to reach the top, sharing out their food and water, having an amazing time with their friends and even making new friends proved to be an amazing experience for everyone as a whole.

After reaching the fort at around 12.30 pm, everyone had their lunch and rest. After some time of rest, Experts gave us some information

DRAMA CLUB

All worlds a stage and all men and women are merely players.

Their exits and entrances.

The Drama club began its year with a beautiful presentation at the club opening function this year. The small skit presented by the club members raised the momentum and confidence of the club members.

Then there was a small audition conducted amongst the club members to just boost up the morale and confidence of the club members. The new members in the club were introduced to each other. This was a method to make the new club members comfortable and confident.

Then came 5th of September, Teachers day celebration at MIT-SOM COLLEGE. The Drama Club played an integral part in this celebration. On this day the Drama club left no stone unturned, we together had put up three small skits which won the heart of all and all and the audience applauded our performances.

Later down the year, the members of the club participated in one of the most eminent competition of the city, V-Fest India. The event where the members took part in “The next big thing – Acting Auditions.” Here two of our members bagged the 2nd and the 3rd prize.

Later on came a big opportunity for the Drama club members to showcase their talent. It was the annual gathering of MIT-SOM COLLEGE “SYNERGY 2015”. This was a big platform where the members of the drama club had worked hard day and night to put up a small play to make the audience aware about the need to wear a helmet while driving. This play had received applauded by the audience. This concept was appreciated by one and all.

The drama club is still working hard to make it next year more fruitful so it has already started preparing to participate in other eminent

competitions in the city , like “KARANDAK” and other eminent college fests. This year has been a fruitful year for the club but we have to make it even better.

Addiction of social media

The internet has become important part of our life. Internet is used mostly for social networking sites by youth generation, especially college going students. But the problem is most of the peoples making social sites their oxygen I mean they cannot think to live without internet or messaging apps.

Let’s know first what social media is ?Social media is a web-based technology that transforms how people communicate by enhancing interactive conversations. Andreas Kaplan and Michael Haenlein define social media as “a group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, which allows the creation and exchange of user-generated content.”Social Media is a web-based product that is optimized solely by the use of its public. The only way social media can expand depends exclusively on the user and their wants.

Mostly used by Generation Y :Generation Y is defined as those born between the mid-1970s and the early 2000s. This population has grown up with a majority of the technological advances, such as computers and the Internet. They have established relationships with technology and strongly understand its various uses. According to Jones, this generation is considerably more likely to use social networking sites and to create profiles than those of older generations. 20 Lenhart focused a study on the activities surrounding this generation and agreed with Jones by concluding that 70% of Generation Y uses social networking sites and about 65% has an online profile. To further this claim, Lenhart discovered that 63% goes online daily to send messages to friends and receive news. Based upon the analysis of Internet addiction studies and the foundation of addiction a descriptive survey was created and distributed through SurveyMonkey.com, a company that

provides web-based survey solutions. On this website, researchers create their own survey and then get organized results.

ResultsThe goal of the current study was to assess if Generation Y was psychologically addicted to social media, in particular Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and LinkedIn. Each section of the survey gathered specific information about the respondent and their relationship with those social media tools.

Demographic Information Participants were generally social media users acquired from using a snowball technique to reach various universities and age groups. A total of 313 respondents participated in this study. Of the 313 respondents 73.8% were female and 26.2% were male. In addition, 79.2% were between the ages of 17 and 21, 16.6% were between 22-25 years, 2.6% were over 31 years, followed by 1% between 26-30 years, and lastly .6% were 16 and under. This survey successfully reached the target audience of Generation Y based on the majority of the participants.

General Social Media Use When answering the question “What type of social media do you use or follow on a regular basis?” the majority of recipients (98.4%) used Facebook. Following the popularity of Facebook was the number three social media site,24 Twitter (34.2%). LinkedIn received 18.5% of the respondents, and MySpace only received 1.3% of the sample. To answer the question “How much time do you spend on social media sites daily?” the majority spent between 31-60 and 61-90 minutes: both responses received approximately 32% of the answers. Alternatively, 15% said they spent between 91-120 minutes, followed by 10.5% for more than 120 minutes, and 10.2% for under 30 minutes. These responses conclude that a vast

57

majority of the participants in this study were already spending a great deal of time focusing on social media.

Self Perception When answering the question “Do you feel that you are addicted to Social Media?” the majority, 59%, stated that they agreed, followed by the 22.4% who said they remained neutral on the topic. The answer to this question assessed the personal perception the participants had on their social media addiction. These responses help further the claim that because Generation Yers are using these sites so frequently they are aware of a possible addiction, while others feel that they could live with or without social media access. A large amount of respondents said neutral because the parameters of social media addiction are undetermined, as well as the word “addiction” has a variety of negative connotat

Conclusion This study took a critical look at Generation Y’s addiction to social media, specifically Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and LinkedIn, and how it is impacting their relationships when compared to previous generations who communicate on a more face-to-face basis. The only conclusive finding that seemed apparent from the survey responses was that research participants are suffering from three and a half of the five tested components of addiction: salience, tolerance, the intrapsychic element of conflict and relapse. This generation has made social media their top priority and continues to need more usage in order to feel satisfied. It is seen in observation that:Overall females use the Internet for social networking and reinforcing pre-existing relationships whereas males use the social networking sites to flirt and make new friends.

A human’s life is all about incidents, accidents, events and encounters. They are what which make the journey of life worthwhile.

Some incidents are good, thus make one’s life meaningful. Whereas some incidents are terrible, making one’s worst nightmare coming true. Yet people live and encounter. Likewise, I Natalie, have a life changing experience to share.

It all started with my stupidity. My insanity. I was an obnoxious girl who ill-treated everyone. People hated me, avoided me and that is why, I guess, dreaded me too. I was a 19 yrs old brat then, with no rules or regulations. My wish was everyone’s command. Being the only child, I was pampered to great extents. Though my parents didn’t want it to, the pampering turned out to be the roots of a massive explosion that was about to happen. I belonged to a very high class, elite family, though I never maintained the decorum. I squandered money worse than water, late night parties had become a must for me, drugs and alcohol were the chocolate flavours of my life. Life went on this way, each and every single day, I had my course of drugs, spicing up my life, melting me slowly and softly from inside. I could see my mom cry every night I came home drunk, forcing myself to walk. I never had any idea about time. I could see the hidden regret, fear yet thankfulness in my mother’s eye. I know thankfulness might sound little out of question. But yet she was thankful. To see me at least make my way home, once in 24 hours. My parents never knew where I was, what I did. Or even, whether I would come back within the next 24 hrs. Yet they never questioned me. Despite seeing my mother cry bitterly in front of me, begging me with those tender motherly eyes, I never stopped. It never bothered me.

It was that one day that changed my life slowly, but forever.

I can still smell the fragrance of white lilies of that day. I, as usual, was drunk and limping on the streets, making my way home. I was limping across the magnificent Eden garden, famous for

white lilies, when I saw a person sitting across the garden, in the corner most benches.

I chafed my eyes and walked over to the person. I was too far, or rather too drunk to decide who it was. I trudged, as I did so, I felt the way of the lady’s nuance,(I could guess it), very familiar. I knew I had known this lady. Don’t know how, when or why. I couldn’t see her face as she sat with her back towards me. Yet there was something that made me feel positive. Something I can’t comprehend. A feeling that can’t be disclosed. My heart started pounding faster. It didn’t make sense. What was happening to me? I walked up to her and put my hand on her shoulder.

Alas! It was my mother. She turned around and asked me to sit. I, speechlessly sat down. Something felt very peculiar. My mom had worn a white, satin gown and was holding velvet red roses and sat there alone at this odd point of time, crying.

For the first time in my life, I dreaded the moment. I could feel my nerves rise and the hangover seemed to have disappeared somewhere. I couldn’t take it anymore. I put my hand on my mother’s cold, numb hands and asked her what was wrong?

She faked me a smile through those never ending tears and I felt a sudden deep pain somewhere within. She wiped her tears, kissed me smoothly on the cheeks and whispered…

“My child… you were too occupied in your world to know what I went through. Though I tried telling you, you weren’t there for me. when you were a kid, I could make you sit and tell you what I felt, but as you grow up, I think your priorities changed.

Baby… you know you were the best gift god ever gave me. I couldn’t die without biding you goodbye. That’s why here I’m, waiting for my angel to make me rest in peace…”

The words zapped in my head like a raging fire. I didn’t know what was happening. All I could feel was my mum’s cold hands hug me and continue…

Ghost of Love

Page 61: JAGRUTI - mitsomcollege.edu.inmitsomcollege.edu.in/pdf/Jagruti - 2015.pdf · visible efforts in bringing out another masterpiece, in the form of annual edition of ‘Jagruti’. It

59

“Baby… I had cancer. From the very first stage I had known. Your dad and I hid it from you because we couldn’t see you hurt. Today was an end to all my sufferings. Now I can peacefully reunite with the stars, I used to tell you in stories about. My girl now that I am gone, I hope you’ll live your life like a wise and mamma’s lovable girl. Though god had ended all my sufferings, I couldn’t leave my soul without biding you farewell. Now that I have, I will find peace and eternity. Just remember mamma loves you…”

Her words seemed to fade away. And I despite being wide awake felt myself drifting off to a very peaceful sleep. Everything blackened and I slept on my mum’s lap on the bench. The next morning I woke up with a start. I was sleeping on the bench. I tried recollecting what happened the night before, but I couldn’t. I picked myself up and walked home.

As I was walking, I saw my dad stand outside the doors of a graveyard next to Eden garden, with a bouquet or red roses in his hands, and stare at a grave. I went up to him and shook his arm.

He turned around. As he saw me, he burst out into tears and took me to the grave he had been staring. Before looking down, I wandered my gaze around. I couldn’t see my mother. I looked at my dad and asked, “Where is mama?”

My dad kept sobbing silently. He looked at me and then pointed at the grave. I looked down and fell to the ground with a thud sound. My whole world had just come crashing down. The dream, the garden, the dress, the roses, everything made sense now.

Tears rolled down my cheeks. My mum was no longer there. No longer a sufferer. She lay sleeping before me. Forever.

I hated myself. Hated my existence. I couldn’t be there for her. Couldn’t feel her pain. And now when she’s gone so far away, to the stars, I sit here and cry. Tears of blood. But it’s too late now. It’s time to face the truth. I could never be with her or her ghost of love again…

“Dealing With Stress during College”

NewsletterSeptember 23, 2014

Whether you’re facing final exams, managing a long distance relationship or just struggling to stay on top of a pile of homework, college can be a stressful time. Don’t succumb to anxiety - follow these simple tips for dealing with stress during college.

Conquer Your Stress

College students face a host of stressors. University-level homework may be more challenging (and plentiful!) than anything you’ve ever faced before, and final exams can bring a whole new meaning to the term ‘crunch time.’

The difficulties also don’t typically end with academics. Romance and social lives can be as much a source of anxiety as they are of fun, and many students struggle to stay on top of the newfound freedoms of living away from home, from cooking to laundry to managing a budget.

In response to these challenges, some students fall behind on homework, stop attending class or worse - they turn to dangerous coping mechanisms like drugs or alcohol. Don’t let this happen to you! Here are some ideas for managing your college life and keeping your stress levels under control.

Set time for:

School Work. This will probably your biggest source of stress. School work may not be your

favorite thing to do, but is a must-do in order to graduate from college! For every hour of lecture per week (equivalent to one unit), you should set aside 2-3 hours to study outside of classroom (Calpoly.edu). While studying, eliminate distractions so that you can stay focused. Pick a place that you are comfortable being at, whether it’s in the library, a coffee shop, or the student lounge. If studying for 2-3 hours per unit is not realistic for you, try to schedule yourself with a combination of some less challenging courses with difficult ones in the same quarter/semester. This will allow you to avoid feeling overloaded. Of course, if you enjoy a particular subject, studying for it won’t feel like an obligation. So, pick classes that interest you!

Social Activities. Juggling between your social niches and school work can be a challenge, but spending all you effort only on school work could be draining. Make use of the college environment to find a work-life balance. Being in college is the best time and setting for you to build life-long relationships, as well as expand your social and professional networks. Use social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, and Tumblr. Join social groups and professional groups; attend activities and have fun at the same time. This will allow you to relax and see things in the real world. Don’t forget to network for success! Manage a professional profile on LinkedIn and collect contacts. It’s never too early to expand the horizon of unlimited possibilities. More importantly, learn work-life balance.

Sleep. Most college students make the same mistake - we sacrifice sleep for everything else. When our body is weak, it induces stress. leading to small mistakes, simply because we are too exhausted to make good decisions or function on a regular basis. Resting is part of life. 1/3 of our lifetime is meant to be sleeping. Don’t forget to restore your energy by scheduling 6-8 hours of sleep for most nights. Take care of yourself.

Page 63: JAGRUTI - mitsomcollege.edu.inmitsomcollege.edu.in/pdf/Jagruti - 2015.pdf · visible efforts in bringing out another masterpiece, in the form of annual edition of ‘Jagruti’. It

61

Yourself. You may not know how important it is to spend time for yourself just yet. There are so many distractions that you can’t reject, such as the dinner party last night, the sorority gathering tonight, and the college dance that you have been longing to go to with your roommates. Yes, you have been sick and coughing for 2 weeks but you feel like it’s getting better. Finals are not for another week so you can study for them after the weekend. Being young and energetic is awesome; you can use it to the max...until two days before finals. You can’t cram 4 subjects worth of notes from the past 10 weeks into a tired brain, and stress can take over. It is just so easy to get carried away by all that’s happening. Try to plan at least an afternoon each week for yourself to rest, work out, lounge, ride a bike, read, lay by the beach... anything for yourself. Unwind. Just so you can have space to be creative and think about bigger and better things.

Most importantly, learn to be good at time management and organization; it will make your life easier. Time to bust out the calendar on your smartphone to mark the time and dates of every plan that you have! It will be your best friend.

Set goals that are:Realistic. When you try to reach too many challenging goals at once, it can cause anxiety and even a feeling of helplessness when you encounter obstacles. Goals can vary depending on situations. How about we start with what you need to work on; set goals that are challenging yet attainable. For example, if you failed a class last quarter, you know exactly what we need to do this quarter -- pass all classes; otherwise, academic probation! So how do you do this? The goals for this quarter can be: attend classes, set XX hours to study every week, check in with professors and TAs every few weeks about our progress and ask questions. Making small steps to succeed can help reduce your fear of failing.

Your dream. You might feel lost at times because you can’t visualize your future. Your dream might be succeeding in college and getting a job, or it

might be to own your own business. At the end of the day, what you should know is what’s most important to you and prioritize it. Having a dream can help you reduce anxiety while making choices, especially when you know you’re chasing after an ultimate goal.

Develop:Good coping mechanism. Some stress will be unavoidable, so it’s important to develop healthy ways to deal with it. Popular options include athletic exercise, meditation or simple breathing exercises. Find something that works for you and incorporate it into your routines. If needed, pay a visit to the counseling office. Every school has one open to students who need the support. Sometimes, stress can be your motivation. Stay positive!

Relationship with TAs and Professors. Learn to establish connections with professional individuals, especially with your teachers. Attend office hours at least a couple of times a semester/quarter. This can help start a professional connection. Who knows if this can help you get a letter of recommendation or a referral to a job opportunity in the future. In the meanwhile, if situations come up and you feel overwhelmed by your school work, they are the right people to seek out for help! Tell them your needs. They are there for you.

Financial management skills. Your source of income can be limited during college. Besides paying tuition, you may have a few other expenses to attend to, such as social events, travel, food...etc. It’s a smart choice to live on campus the first year, just so you don’t have to spend energy and time managing such logistics. However, if financial constraints eventually becomes a source of stress, try using free assistance, such as Mint.com to help monitor your expense, and make adjustments accordingly.

SOLDIER

THE SODIER STOOD AND FACED GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS...

HE HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS!!

“ STEP FORWARD NOW YOU SOLDIER!! HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU?

HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER CHEEK..TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?”

THE SOLDIER SQUARED HIS SOLDIER AND SAID, “ NO GOD! I ISNT..BECAUSE THOSE OF US WHO CARRY GUN CANT ALWAYS BE A SAINT...

I HAVE TO WORK MOST SUNDAYS AND AT TIMES MY TALK WAS TOUGH..

AND SOMETIMES IV BEEN VIOLENT..BECAUSE THE WORLD OUT THERE IS AWFULLY ROUGH!!

BUT I NEVER TOOK A PENNY THAT WASNT MINE TO KEEP!

THOUGH I WORKED LOT OF OVERTIME... WHEN THE BILLS GOT JUST TOO STEEP!

AND I NEVER PASSED A CRY FOR HELP.. THOUGH AT TIMES I SHOOK WITH FEAR...

AND SOMETIMES GOD FORGIVE ME..I’VE WEPT UNMANLY TEARS!!!

I KNOW I DONT DESERVE A PLACE AMONG THE PEOPLE HERE..

THEY NEVER WANTED ME TO BE AROUND.. EXCEPT TO CALM THIER FEARS!!

IF YOU HAVE PLACE FOR ME HERE LORD..IT NEEDNT TO BE SO GRAND!

I NEVER EXCEPTED OR HAD TOO MUCH.. BUT IF YOU DONT I WILL UNDERSTAND!!”

THERE WAS SILENCE ALL ALONG THE THRONE WHERE SAINTS OFTEN TROD,

AS SOLDIER WAITED QUIETLY FOR JUDGEMENT OF HIS GOD!!

“ STEP FORWARD NOW YOU SOLDIER YOU HAVE BORNE YOUR BURDENS WELL!!

WALK PEACEFULLY ON HEAVENS STREET..YOU’V HAD YOUR TIME IN HELL!!”

63

THE SOLDIER

Indian Army is the third largest army in the world in terms of strength. Army has been protecting our motherland from last 67 years. Right from the Pakistan Army’s aggression in 1947 to Binderwala’s cunning plan to take over Punjab, Right from Chinese aggression to Mumbai attacks, it’s our soldiers who fought for us, laid their lives for our secure future.

Surely they deserve our respect...isn’t it? But alas! That’s not what most of us think.

After World War II, In London even pregnant women used to give up their seats in public transports to war veterans. Most of the roads in the United States and Russia are named after Brave soldiers. But what about us? Each and every city in our country has MG Road, but what about Late.Capt.Batra Road or Riflmn.Sanjay road?? Forget about in every city, we don’t have roads named after these men even in a SINGLE city.

What does this mean? Was it was Gandhiji who worked for our India? Didn’t our soldiers do anything?

Surely they did and they continue to do so even today!

When a celebrity dies, we see all the media guys go and show the LIVE TELECAST of the happenings at their residence but where do these media people go when a soldier dies while fighting terrorists in the border ? All they do is print this in some corner of a newspaper with a title ‘ANOTHER CEASEFIRE VIOLATION BY ENEMY’. Is this all a soldier deserves?

Yes, maybe he’s not as qualified as you are.. He may not be having engineering or management degree which you possess but when an enemy

threatens the national security, its not the number of degrees which you have got but the guts of a soldier which counts.

Winston Churchill once said – “A country cannot fully develop until and unless the citizens starts respecting their soldiers!!”

The best example for this is...Our own country. It’s only during war when Politicians, civilians realise the importance of soldiers. They write numerous poems about the greatness of soldiers ,write letters...but after the war...Whoosh!!!! Everyone forgets their own faujis.

Soldiers don’t want our money, our expensive gifts, fame or publicity. They only want the respect which they DESERVE. So from today, lets promise ourselves to respect and honour those men who sacrifice their today for our tomorrow.

JAI HIND!

The Mohammod Ali Jinnah and Mohandas K Gandhi were the dominant players in the episode of partition. Their independence struggle incorporated the efforts by Indians to librate the region from British rule and for the nation-state of India

Independence was the fight for being independent economy freedom from slavery and zeal for peaceful one country. But the iniquitous Britisher coined the game to mingle the feeling of hatred among Hindu and Muslim. They initiated the game of ‘No war today but the war everyday.’ They differentiated India and Pakistan but left the intuition of hatred aversion and disparity among minds.

The deeply ingrained attitudes manifested themselves in the worst forms of violence during partition. The innumerable deaths, confusion and panic (some of which remain unfold or untold) which unleashed an episode of brutal depravity that is unmatched in recent history. The untold number of deaths and unprecedented rape victims is an example of the horror. The trauma of the people rankled communities led to the harm and massive destruction. People say that british left the country and we got independence but I believe british never left. There are several traces which hint at their influence till today. The Acts of cruelty and brutality were endured by our countrymen which not only impacted that generations but its violent impact can be felt even today. When Muslims, Hindu and Sikh men wanted to take revenge for their peers being killed by the other ,they deliberately went out searching for women of other religion to rape and kidnap.

Infact India and Pakistan partition was not for independence, It was, “War for no War”.

We all start with a journey, same kind or different;

troublesome or maybe happening, caring or indifferent

We all start with a journey, with n number of dreams;

cheers and chaos we hear, we hear terrifying screams

We all start with a journey, with beautiful surround;

Some set with free feelings, others good to boundWe do

We all start with a journey, which continues whole time we spend;

UnknowinglyWe do start journey of love, journey which never

ONE MORE STEP FORWARD

- One more step forward

to the city of competition & glamour,

where it is filled with rumours…

- One more step forward

to explore the new sphere,

where there is no one to wipe your tear…

- One more step forward

to the world of high heels and short dresses,

where the praises are are actually grudges

- One more step forward

to the globe of traffic and lights,

where people enjoy at nights…

- One more step forward

leaving my loved ones behind,

where there is nothing you can hide…

- One more step forward

Of setting the future for 3 years,

where I will defeat all my fears…

- One more step forward

with a powerful force,

where I will head like a dark horse.

Three years at this college – how to sum up? I still cannot believe how fast time went by. Three years – that made me connect to this college in a way I never thought it would be possible. I would like to thank MITSOM college for providing me endless growth opportunities and pushing me towards success. Without our principal Dr. R.M. Chitnis’s guidance we wouldn’t have been the sensible students which we are today.I would like to thank our professors for making learning our passion. Ten years from now, it will not be the grade you gave us that will matter, but the lessons you taught us through your experience, knowledge and discussions and if it were not for the teachers in our lives I would not be representing all of us today. Unlike other institutions, MITSOM College allows us to initiate. These years have been a learning experience for all of us, and yet through our mistakes and achievements, you never denied us another opportunity to initiate change, initiate conversation, and initiate an idea that could make a difference. I am honoured to be a part of MITSOM family.

Being from an average guy to a topper, Best Outgoing Student and the General Secretary of such a renowned College, This transformation was possible only because of the love and guidance of my faculties. This college has proved to be the polishing and turning point of my carrier and no doubt, the best and most memorable phase of my life. Three years away from my home, but never felt far. MITSOM College was always like a home for me with a wonderful family.I love my college from the bottom of my heart and feel proud to pass out from an ‘A’ Grade College and that too with one of the highest CGPA...!I really want to thank all the faculties who helped me in gaining the real me, and Special thanks to Vinaya ma’am and Borse Sir for supporting, helping and showing me the path always.

MITSOM College has helped me broaden my thinking process and taught me to excel , all because of the very well qualified faculty. At MITSOM COLLEGE the focus shifts from just curricular learning to overall development of the students. The well structured curriculum incorporates cutting edge teaching, grounded in the fundamental ethics helped me enhance my confidence and enabled me to grow both professionally and personally. Needless to add, it has also inculcated abundance of spiritual values in the students. MITSOM COLLEGE is truly a great place to groom yourself as a LEADER for TODAY and TOMORROW.

Hello Friends, RamKumar khubchandani here, this is my short experience with MIT Colleage Pune. I had completed my BCA from Jamnagar and was planning to continue with my business. BUT as said what happens, happens for good I planned to quit my business idea and gave an entrance exam for MIT and scored 3rd in OMS(Other Maharashtra State). After a brief discussion with my friends I came to know that MIT is one of the best college in Maharashtra and the journey to my college started. I remember the first day of the college, we all gathered in the class and were trying to make new friends and we were trying to talk to each other and build a friendly relation. Then was a time to decide the CR of our class and they was a competition between me and my friend Ali Abbas Hitawala selecting the CR of the class. Luckily I got selected. As time passed everyone came to know each other and we were best buddies. In my journey to MIT college I won many awards for many events and was selected as “ joining secratory “in two years and at the last I won my 16th award as best “student of the year “Which will be a special memory to cherish in my MCA course. These were the blissful days of my life.At the end would like to thank my parents, my faculty and my friends for their support as and when needed.
