Thursday, January 13 – Arrive in Tel Aviv OVERNIGHT: Intercontinental Hotel, Tel Aviv

Friday, January 14 – Go North West AKKO

Walk through and shop in this market, steeped in medieval history. The former crusader city of Akko is now home to a brilliantly coexistent population of Jews, Christians and Muslims.

ATLIT DETENTION CAMPVisit the site where thousands of Jewish immigrants were imprisioned during the British Mandate upon arriving in Israel.

Visit the mountain fortress built by King Herod where religious zealots made their final stand against the Romans. Once we reach the top of Masada, enjoy celebratory dancing and a Torah dedication. Learn about JNF-USA’s new Torah Scroll Initiative, Be Inscribed. Have your own honorary letter written into a Torah by a Jewish sofer (scribe), who spends his days in the ancient, glass-enclosed synagogue atop Masada

YERUCHAM Yerucham is known for its Lake Park, one of the most popular birding locales in Israel, and the Machtesh Yerucham, a geological feature with roads descending 1,000 meters to the crater floor. Visit this unique town and see the beautiful park being built for recreation, hiking, and play. Meet with Tal Ohana, Mayor of Yerucham, to learn how Jewish National Fund-USA’s initiatives have enhanced the community, and visit the recently completed fire station.

Meet with Noa Zer at the Faran Overlook to take in the natural wonder of the Arava region, and to hear updates on Jewish National Fund-USA’S work in the community, including the opening of the new Aquatic Center.

ZUKIMExplore the first non-agricultural community established in the Arava which has become a blossoming village located two hours south of the Negev capital city of Be’er Sheva.

Built in memory of the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the 9/11 Living Memorial is the only site outside of the United States that recognizes the names of those lost on that tragic day.
