dle school model aims to engage students inmeaningful and stimulating learning opportu-nities and support students cognitive, socialand emotional development.

My teachers at IPA helped me to realize I am smart and can do well in school.

IPA gave me the condence I didnt have in my old school.

IPA is currently a candidate for the International Baccalaureate

(IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP; grades 6-10). At the heart

of the academic program lies an interdisciplinary, inquiry-based

curriculum that challenges students to seek and understand the

connections between traditional subjects and the real world. The

core program focuses on building a strong foundation in academ-

ic concepts and development of critical thinking, study skills, re-

    spectful communication, and collaboration.

Some private schools I visited said they only wanted excellent students.I chose IPA because they sincerely want to help studentsdiscovertheirexcellence.

IPAs Upper School is grounded in the schools

mission to graduate young men and women who

understand the power of kindness, exhibit gener-

osity of spirit, and whose curiosity and creativity

    drive them to learn.

Students develop the self-condence to navigate complex issues, applying critical thinking and

inquiry skills to solve problems. Coursework and co-curricular activities sharpen linguistic,

cultural, numeric, scientic and aesthetic literacy, stimulating in students the capacities needed

to succeed in university coursework as well as challenging socio-political contexts. The goal is to

nurture thoughtful participants in our democratic society.

The academic curriculum consists of core courses in English, science, mathematics, social science, world language, and the arts as well as exploration of learning

through specialized coursework. IPA is a candidate school in the International Baccalaureate program, an internationally respected curricular framework, atboth the Middle Years Programme (MYP; grades 6-10) and the Diploma Programme (DP; grades 11-12). Advanced Placement (AP) coursework supplements the

rigorous standards of the DP coursework to provide students with multiple opportunities for honors level work and earning advanced standing college credit.

Outstanding performance in scholarship, leadership, and service has earned IPA students election to the schools chapter of the National Honor Society, two National

World Language Honor Societies and the National Art Honor Society.

The extra-curricular program is rich in opportunities for students to pursue their passions and unique interests. There is a wide array of activities ranging from service

clubs like Interact, to art and technology clubs, student newspaper and yearbook. An active student government provides leadership opportunities at both class and

school-wide levels. Student social life centers around trips, teams, service activities, dances and similar events providing students with ample opportunities for fun

    and socializing with friends.

IPA graduates have earned admission to colleges and universities across the country and around the

globe. Graduates report being better prepared for college than many of their peers, and they exhibit

the self-condence needed to capitalize on the rich experience of college. The scores of IPA students

on highly competitive national exams, such as the PSAT, SAT and AP, are further assets presented by IPA

students as they make application for college admission.

The college counseling process is designed to address the needs of each student by offering person-

alized attention, frequent meetings with the college counselor, assistance with the process of collegeadmissions and essay writing. The goal is to match students with colleges that best suit their

individual needs, interests and aspirations. Our standard is that every student is prepared for

admission to a college or university of his or her choice. IPA hosts a College Road Trip in the summer

to provide students the chance to visit mainland colleges. In addition, college representatives from

dozens of colleges from around the US visit IPAs campus each year, and the school provides

opportunities for juniors and seniors to meet with IPA graduates home on college breaks to add to

their information base as they prepare for the next stage of their academic careers.

Im doing really well in college. Im grateful to my teachers who gave me more

than just a strong academic foundation. They also helpedme to have condence in my ability to learn, think for

myself, and rise to my full potential.

For IPA teachers, the focus is on students and the ways in which each adult can most benecially serve

the development of the students in their charge. Small class sizes allow frequent individual student-

teacher interaction, and every student has both a personal adviser and an academic adviser to serve as

advocates and to add their support to the efforts of the classroom instructors to meet the needs of each

    person.
