OBJECTIVES
• Participant will understand the importance of a documented quality management system and the features which are essential if such a system is to meet the requirement of MS ISO 9000 assessment models.
• Participant will understand and have practical experience of planning, executing and reporting the results of an assessment.
• Participant will be exposed (and made to appreciate) the essentials of auditing techniques used by Auditors of Quality Management Systems.
• Have gained a formal qualification recognised by the Board of the International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA) as satisfying the training requirements for potential registrants as Auditors/Lead Auditors.
The course is designed to meet the above objectives and is regularly reviewed by the IRCA to ensure that it continues to meet their published requirements.
COURSE DESIGN
The course offers approximately 40 hours programmed training time excluding meal breaks and will be conducted over 5 days. Around 65% of the training time will be spent in case study and role-play work.
Three international (and national) standards feature prominently in the course design
1. The course is based on training attendees to carry out audits based on the Quality management systems requirements standard, ISO 9001:2008
2. Assessment methodology and techniques taught on the course are based on the requirements laid down in the Quality Systems Auditing Standards ISO 19011:2011
3. Quality management terms and definitions used in the course materials are based on those listed in ISO 9000:2008 fundamentals & vocabulary.
The course is designed around an optimum of 20 attendees, to provide both cost effectiveness and a good tutor / student ratio. The main case study on which the course is based upon provides attendees with the opportunity to practice their audit techniques by carrying out a simulated audit in the training environment using syndicate work and role-play. Several case studies are available and are selected to suit the needs of the group. Specialist technical knowledge on the part of attendees is not required for any of our case studies. The case studies are designed to suit both service and manufacturing sectors and are not engineering based.
COURSE STRUCTURE AND CONTENT
The course structure and content meets in every respect the stringent requirement laid down by the IRCA, United Kingdom. For the course members, learning begins before their arrival with a pre-course exercise included in joining instruction for the course. This is designed to ensure the attendees make themselves aware of the contents of the QA standards prior to their arrival on the course. Tutors feedback on the pre-course exercise is given early in the course and on an individual basis when
required.
The course has been structured so that the necessary basic information is given to the students in early sessions, principally through formal lectures, supplemented by the course notes. All of the formal lectures are supported by case studies and practical exercise designed to reinforce learning points
and help delegates consolidate their understanding.
ASSESSMENT OF COURSE MEMBERS
Achieving the formal qualification from the course is dependent on two criteria:
1. Continuous assessment by the course tutors. The basis for assessment is explained early to attendees at the course introduction.
2. Attendees must also achieve a 70% mark in a formal 2-hour written examination. The exam is taken at the end of the course and is designed to test the understanding of the assessment process and techniques.
CERTIFICATION
Attendees who successfully completed the course are awarded with a certificate, which is acceptable to the IRCA as evidence of training for potential Auditors / Lead Auditors. Attendees who do not achieve the required standard in either examination or continuous assessment receive an attendance certificate only from IRCA - certified course number IATCA /
IRCA 17059 Managing for Quality Limited (UK), our licensor.
Attendees failing the examination may re-sit, once only, on a subsequent course. Those not achieving a satisfactory standard on continuous assessment must re-sit and pass the entire course if they wish to be
awarded with a certificate.
