Softpay is an application available for Verifone terminals on the Verix platform. It provides functionality for processing transactions where a host is involved. [In other words, it processes checks, credit cards, debit cards, (etc.)] VeriFone Confidential 7 Why Should a merchant use Softpay? Softpay can be used on any Verix platform terminal. This included most of the Omni series post Omni 490 and all of the Vx series including the Vx570 and the Vx610 Softpay can support several credit card types, debit card transactions, and check applications (provided that the terminal and application are configured for such and the required hardware is present - i.e. PinPad, Check Reader, etc.) Softpay can offer functionality for retail and restaurant locations alike with options such as server tracking, tip adjustment, and the ability to create tabs VeriFone Confidential 8 Other Softpay Features Softpay also can be configured to offer offline processing and store and forward (also called Batch Auth processing) Softpay comes with the Verix Development Kit allowing Credit Card processers to customize how Menu Items display and remove unneeded features VeriFone Confidential 9 Not all distributions of Softpay are created equal Menu item layout and naming is hardcoded into the software by the Credit Card Processor or a 3 rd party company and may not be changed manually within the application Some options such as Check or Balance Inquiry are not available in certain flavors of the application because they are not relevant to the processor who has certified the version of Softpay Passwords and configuration options vary on processor, type of business, and communication type VeriFone Confidential 10 Sales Functions Perform basic functions that deal with transactions. These functions can be accessed from the Main Menu VeriFone Confidential 11 Sales/ Transaction Functions Sales/Transaction Functions Sales/Transaction Functions Pre Authorization Sales/ Transaction Functions Pre Authorization Sales/ Transaction Functions Correction of Sales/Transactions Correction of Sales/Transactions Other Sales/Transaction Functions Other Sales/Transaction Functions VeriFone Confidential 12 Sales/Transaction Functions Sale: performs a preauthorization telling the card issuer to hold funds, and places the transaction into a batch to be settled at a later time. Phone Order: allows the merchant to manually type a credit card number into the terminal for a sale processed when card is not present. VeriFone Confidential 13 Pre Authorization Sales/ Transaction Functions Auth Only: runs a pre- authorization and requests the card issuer to hold funds. ***Does not place sale into the batch for funds to be collected*** (1 st half of a standard sale) Force / Off line Sale: allows a merchant to manually enter a sale if an authorization number for the sale has already been acquired over the phone (Voice Auth/Approval) or via other means (2 nd half of a regular sale) VeriFone Confidential 14 Correction of Sales/Transactions Void: removes a transaction from the current batch. Does not release the preauthorization. Refund / Customer Credit: allows a merchant to return funds to a customers card after the batch has already been closed or if the transaction was run through another method VeriFone Confidential 15 Other Sales/Transaction Functions Balance Inquiry: requests and displays/prints the balance remaining on a prepaid card or the balance on an EBT card Cash Advance: allows a merchant to charge a customers card for a specified amount of money in order to issue the amount back to the customer in cash Check: allows the merchant to perform a sale using a check Store & Forward / Batch Auth: allows the merchant to process transactions offline without acquiring approval numbers, to be processed later when the host is available. VeriFone Confidential 16 Settlement Functions Batch out and tell the host to collect or to pull reports These functions can be accessed from the Main Menu VeriFone Confidential 17 Settlement Functions Settlement: allows the merchant to batch out or settle with their network (begins the process of funds transfer from cardholder to merchants bank account) Batch Totals: requests a report for the total amounts of transactions currently unsettled Batch Review: allows the merchant to pull filtered reports on the current batch based on preset parameters VeriFone Confidential 18 Important! Always pull a Batch Report prior to hitting the Settlement option. You cannot pull a host report on the batch after settling. Also, any transaction needing to be Voided must be done prior to batching. VeriFone Confidential 19 Server Functions Server tracking and other Functions essential to running a restaurant. Server Functions are contained in the Server Menu VeriFone Confidential 20 Server Functions Log on Server: allows an existing server at a restaurant to logon to the terminal to use it. Log off Server: allows an existing server at a restaurant to logoff off the terminal to stop using it. Add Server: creates a new server in the terminal, allowing the restaurant to add an employee who can use the machine Modify Server: changes settings for an existing server in the terminal Delete Server: removes an existing server from the terminal Clear Servers: Removes all servers in the system VeriFone Confidential 21 Bar Tab Functions Keeps open tabs for an environment where the total sale is initially indeterminate. Tab Functions are contained in the tab menu. VeriFone Confidential 22 Tab Functions Open Tab: runs a preauthorization for a specified amount and keeps a record of it in the terminal Close Tab: runs a completion on one of the tabs opened after entering the final amount of the sale Tab Report: prints a report of all the tabs for the settlement period Force Open Tab: allows a merchant to enter an pre- authorization number into the machine instead of using Open Tab Delete Tab: removes open tabs that are no longer needed (someone walks out without paying or decides not to buy anything) VeriFone Confidential 23 Other Functions and Hotkeys Functions that perform miscellaneous tasks. These functions can be found in the Main Menu or from a Hotkey VeriFone Confidential 24 Other Functions and Hotkeys Help: displays the software assistance phone number or other useful information such as the software version, etc. Reprint Receipt reprints the last receipt or a receipt by invoice# Quick Setup - allows the merchant to modify common configuration options Other Setup allows setup of Comm, Host, and other terminal parameters VeriFone Confidential 25 More about Hotkeys and Setup Hotkeys are determined by the processor. Most of the time, however, #6 is Quick Setup and the purple keys are used for Reports and Reprinting. The manual or QRG distributed for that version of Softpay should include what the hotkeys are available for that version of software.
