INTRODUCTION

Dear Readers,

Sapphire International School is proud to share its school events

and activities with you and hope you enjoy our journey with our

newsletter. We are delighted to showcase our events and activities and

we feel that our newsletter reflects the exciting developments that are

taking place in our school.

The past months have been very eventful with various events and

students representing our school in different educational programmes.

A multitude of opportunities to mould the plethora of talent – this

is what this educational institute attempts to strive for and has

successfully been doing in the recent past. Co-curricular activities are

considered the most important component of an efficient and effective

educational system and we at SIS do realize the significance of putting

before our students ample space in the curriculum to grow academically

and also to exploit their latent talents and learn from one another.

Working on the same principle, SIS Ranchi organized RENDEZVOUS –

an Inter School Meet for the fourth consecutive year. The most awaited

date in the calendar of Sapphire International School, Ranchi – 12th

August 2016, was the day when the prestigious interschool competition,

‘Rendezvous’, for schools across Ranchi, Jharkhand was declared open.

The day began with a grand opening ceremony. It commenced with a

welcome speech and a mesmerizing dance performance. To grace this

occasion we had amongst us, Dr. Harish Sankrityayan, Chairman of The

World Buddha Foundation & t Co-operative Society of Ranchi, Dr. Hari

Narayan Chaturvadi, better known as Dr. Harish Sankrityayan, is the

founder of the The World Buddha Foundation.

Page 2: INTRODUCTION - Sapphire International School RANCHI...To grace the occasion we had with us our Chief Guest, Shrimati Sushma Sinha, Head of Public Relations at Cyber Peace Foundation

Many distinguished schools from all over Ranchi, Jharkhand

participated in the event. These competitions were organized to identify

the talents of the participants in various fields including fine art, oratory

skills, performing arts, quiz, webpage designing, sports, the list is

endless. The event culminated with the Grandparents’ Day Celebration

on 15th

August. It was a special day for all those who attended the

programme, as the children of SIS & HAPPY FEET entertained their

grandparents with songs, skits, dances and poems. It also gave us a

chance to interact with an age group that is most often overlooked.

To grace the occasion we had with us our Chief Guest, Shrimati Sushma

Sinha, Head of Public Relations at Cyber Peace Foundation which works

on Cyber Safety. She also gave away the prizes to the winners of

‘Rendezvous’. Then it was time for Sapphire International School to

declare the much awaited results. SAPPHIRE INTERNATIONAl

SCHOOL won the Rendezvous Trophy; Surendranath Centenary School

was the 1st Runner Up, while the 2nd Runner Up trophy went to

KAIRALI SCHOOL. It was a very successful event, indeed, and we

look forward to many more.

Finally, we take this opportunity to wish each and every student of

our school, all the best for their forthcoming Final Exams.

Our school newsletter is a great way to build a learning community

and keep parents informed about all the happenings organized inside the

campus as well upcoming events.

We would appreciate your suggestions and feedback on the same

to make our Newsletter better and further enriched.

IIMUN (Sapphire Triumph at the Model

Having established supremacy in the IIMUN East Zone, 8 students of Sapphire

International School (Surangama Tirkey, Mohini Dewalla, Chitrolekha Ghosh,

made their institution proud at the United Nations Headquarters in New York as

well. Over 250 students participated from the USA, Bahrain and India in the Model

United Nations Conference. The rare accolade of the “Best Delegate for

International Press” awarded to Ms. Surangama Tirkey was the highlight of the

Sapphire representation. Held between August 15 and 17, 2016, this session

provided the extraordinary opportunity for Sapphire students to participate in a

debate akin to the actual UN General Assembly deliberations. Besides this rare

exposure to global diplomacy, the students listened to the speeches of Mr. Kaushik

Basu, Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist, World Bank, and that of Mr.

Syed Akhbaruddin, India‟s permanent representative to the UN.

affairs to instill in them the importance of global citizenry.

Teacher’s Day Celebration

India has been celebrating “Teachers' Day” on 5th of September as a symbol of

tribute and honour to the contribution made by teachers to the society. Accorded

due respect in the society, teachers have played an important role in the overall

development of a person. They are capable of influencing and moulding a student's

life positively.

On the occasion of Teacher's Day„, a special celebration was conducted by

Sapphire International School to honour Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and to

Page 5: INTRODUCTION - Sapphire International School RANCHI...To grace the occasion we had with us our Chief Guest, Shrimati Sushma Sinha, Head of Public Relations at Cyber Peace Foundation

encourage the contribution of teachers to the society. Various cultural programmes

Book Fair 2016

The motive of this book fair was to inculcate „reading‟ as a habit among students

books easily available within Sapphire Premises.

Parragon Publishing in collaboration with Crosswords (A renowned Book Shop of

Ranchi City).

We can genuinely claim that the book fair was eminently successful at SIS Ranchi:

we hope to repeat this kind of event to generate love of books among students.

Halloween Party

Straddling the line between fall and winter, plenty and paucity, life and death,

Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition. It is thought to have originated

with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and

wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts.

On 27.11.2016 our school organized a Halloween Party with a huge Bonfire to

boot. Students, Teachers and Staff enjoyed themselves a lot. All the students

participated in the event with full enthusiasm; they were looking great in their

makeup; they danced and had their types of snacks while the music went on. The

Principal was also present during the event and participated in the Halloween

bonfire party. These types of events make students happy and also bring them

closer to their teachers. The event was wonderful and quite a success.

mess there on the football ground. Our Principal Mr. Dhruba Das , Vice Principal

Academic Competition 2016 – 2017

Education acquired through rote memory is of little use if children are not

competent to apply the knowledge gained by them. However it is difficult to apply

the knowledge in the empirical world until it has been tested and validated.

Sapphire International School, has always striven to create opportunities for its

students, so that the children can get hands-on experience and can learn by

performing various activities. With this end in view, the school has initiated

Academic Competitions, where children can put their knowledge to test and gain

meaningful insights. Different topics for different subjects & for different
