Dear Sunnyslope FBLA:
This is our third year as an official FBLA chapter and have been very
busy as we have decided to take on all four chapter projects. Our mission was
to have fun with these reports and to learn from all of them. For the
Community Service Project we have teamed up with the Southwest Autism
Research and Resource Center (SARRC). Our FBLA chapter was involved in
their annual Autism Speaks Walk, volunteered at their Beneficial Beans retail
internship program, and much more. Our Partnership with Business Project
involved teaming up with American Airlines to learn more about business
travel. This partnership included a hangar tour while headed to Charlotte, NC
for NFLC as well as concierge lounge tour at both airports, Phoenix, AZ and
Charlotte, NC. That truly made for a very memorable trip. Our American
Enterprise Project focused on the rebranding of our student store Slope
Central. As a team, we decided to transform the store into a day to day
convenience store. This project has shown members how to truly run a
successful business. Included in all the projects were educational guest
speakers that came to share on various topics ranging from autism awareness,
to career options to rebranding and marketing. I am so proud of our 94 member
chapter for taking on such a large challenge this year. All members
participated in some form or fashion to every project.
This year 2018-2019 school year has been a fun one. As a group we
have come closer together, and we are excited to get ready for our state and
national competitions. As we look ahead to next year, we plan on getting more
involved in the Sunnyslope community and we again want to participate in
every chapter event that FBLA and AZ FBLA have to offer.
Sincerely,
Miranda Cain

Our Story
he concept to restart a FBLA chapter at Sunnyslope High School
was brought up March of 2016. It all began when our adviser
introduced FBLA to a group of students in our Business Operations
and Software class. Fortunately, many were interested to become
FBLA members and have worked hard ever since to keep the chapter
running. Our work ethic has inspired many students to participate and
become active members of FBLA.
Create, Lead, and Inspire
For the last three years, FBLA has offered a wonderful journey for our
chapter. Leadership is an essential element for our members and local
officers. As a chapter, we have progressed in our skills and involvement within our community. For example, the
Partnership with Business Project was able to CREATE a relationship with American Airlines to teach students
about business travel and career opportunities that the airline provides. As for the American Enterprise Project, it
was able to LEAD our fellow members by teaching them about rebranding and ways to manage a business
efficiently. Finally, the Community Service Project was able to INSPIRE members to help our community by
collaborating with the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center and different organizations around the area.

Size of School and Community
Sunnyslope High School is located in the middle of Phoenix and is known as an
extremely diverse school. Part of our population comes from assorted neighborhoods
that are at the high end of the socioeconomic scale while another part of our student
population is from low economic situations. Even though we run the gamut of economic
diversity, our campus is a place of understanding, compassion and acceptance.

Club Rush Homecoming Week Future Freshmen Night
To start off each new year, we participate
in Sunnyslope’s annual Club Rush. This
event showcases all the clubs on campus.
We used this opportunity to promote
FBLA and had many students sign up to
learn more about what we offer.
Homecoming Week (October 1–5)
included many activities allowing us to
promote FBLA. We started off with a
pre-re-grand opening of our school store
Slope Central and offered new products.
We also participated in the Homecoming
Parade and publicized our chapter.
Future Freshmen Night is an event on
campus for parents and future students to
explore what Sunnyslope has to offer.
This includes a spirit-filled assembly and
campus tour. Each year FBLA members
are involved and proudly represent our
chapter, Business Operations class, and
school store.

National Fall Leadership Conference
This year our chapter had the opportunity to travel to Charlotte,
NC for the 2018 National Fall Leadership Conference. Eight
members traveled and experienced great workshops,
amazing motivational speakers and incredible team
building. The conference took place from
November 14-18. All the chapter officers went as
well as a few other key leaders. At the conference
our chapter was also awarded the Super Sweeps
Award. Throughout the conference, we attended
a variety of workshops that really inspired us as
well as provided our leaders to participate in great
team building activities. Throughout the five days
our chapter was in Charlotte, we gained valuable
experience in different ways on how we could grow our
leadership skills and better assist our chapter.
Workshops
In Charlotte, we had the opportunity to attend many
workshops and listen to the advice of motivational
speakers. Many speakers such as Nick Zizi and Odell
Bizzell held informative workshops and actively
kept FBLA members intrigued. All the students that
attended received great insight from all the
workshops, and we came home with knowledge to
help our chapter improve and thrive.
Officer Training
During this year’s officer training, our executive
board came together and discussed what they wanted
to accomplish in the chapter throughout the year. The
officers worked on this year’s program of work and
prepared it for the upcoming year. This officer
training helped the new officers envision what the
upcoming year would hold and what they wanted to
accomplish for the 2018-2019 FBLA year.
Business Achievements Awards
This 2018-2019 year 64 students from Sunnyslope
High School earned a recognition from National
FBLA for their Business Achievement Awards at all
four levels.
Community Service Awards
From our local chapter 17 students received a level
of recognition for the Community Service Awards
(CSA). Their contribution to the community
included activities they did individually with other
clubs around campus along with activities we did as
a chapter.

Business Operations & Software
The Business Operation & Software course is
designed to teach high school students about
computer software and key business topics that will
be essential for the business industry. Students can
take the course up to 4 years and earn extra credit for
the remaining last two years by working at Slope
Central (student run store). In addition, students learn
to use programs such as Microsoft Office to enhance
their knowledge and are able to become certified in
its applications as Word, and PowerPoint, and Excel.
Not only can students earn certification, but they also
learn new skills. Students learn communication,
problem solving, and working under stress. Which
all the following skills are essential to become a
successful business individual.
Microsoft Office Certification
After much training, Business Operation and
Software students have the opportunity to take
Microsoft Certification tests twice a year. To receive
MOS certification, students must get a score of 700
or higher. This year 57 students are now referred to
as a Microsoft Specialist in PowerPoint 2016 in first
semester alone. Soon they will be testing for Word
2016.
Dual Enrollment - GCC
In partnership with Glendale
Community College, Sunnyslope
High School offers business
students the opportunity to earn
college credits by taking business courses during
their 4 years in high school. All levels of courses
offered in the Business Operations & Software
program offer dual enrollment credit. The following
courses are offered:
BPC 110: Computer Usage & Applications (3 cr)
BPC 128: Intro to Desktop Publishing (1 cr)
CIS 113DE: Microsoft Word: Word Processing (3 cr)
CIS 114DE: Excel Spreadsheet (3 cr)
CIS 118DB: Desktop Presentation: PowerPoint (3 cr)
Students taking these courses can earn up to 7 college
credits per semester ($85 per credit.) Course offerings
vary depending on the high school class enrolled.
Tallo (Stem Premier)
Tallo, formally known as Stem Premier, is an online
social media platform that enables students to keep
an online record that will showcase their skills and
experiences in a digital online resume. This digital
portfolio showcases the student’s courses, grades,
credentials, interests, experience, extra-curricular
activities, associations, and more. Universities
and/or colleges have access to these portfolios and
can show interest in the students. The partnership
that Tallo has with FBLA-PBL allows their members
to add FBLA credentials to make their profile more
interesting for universities
and/or colleges.

Slope Central
Slope Central is a student-run store operated by FBLA members that
fulfill cashier positions allowing members to gain work experience.
We offer a variety of products to students and staff around campus.
We have products such as snacks, spirit items, technology items and
much more. By operating during both lunches, our team makes
profits to benefit our chapter. Much of the profit made helps us keep
the kiosk running and helps pays for items our chapter may need.
Fundraising Committee
This is year the fundraising committee started working on getting
donations for the Sunnyslope FBLA chapter. Led by the treasurer and
composed of many other leaders within the chapter, their goal was to
collect as much money as possible to help students afford to attend
FBLA conferences. The committee contacted many local
companies, personal friends and family and shared how to donate to
help our future leaders gain skills. They also encouraged many people in
their community to use tax credits to help our members. One company we
contacted was American Traditions Realty and they will be sponsoring members at NLC.

The Sunnyslope FBLA Chapter uses various platforms to promote social events, achievements, and ideas to the
community. We believe marketing is an essential component in the business industry, especially when building
your brand because you want people to acknowledge the company or in this case, our chapter.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Sunnyslope FBLA uses platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to
showcase highlights of our journey as an FBLA chapter. We post
pictures on social media of leadership conferences we attended throughout the year as
well as community service events we participated in as a chapter. This is also a great
way to share the number of members that placed in competitive conferences at
Regionals, State, and Nationals Conferences. Furthermore, we use social media to
promote community service events and promotions we have at our student-store.
WEBSITE
The Sunnyslope FBLA website includes information about upcoming events such as competitive conferences and
community service opportunities. We also provide information about chapter projects and a list of winners that
have received awards in their competitions. We also include updates of Slope Central and share pictures of
members’ FBLA experiences. Click this link to visit our website: Sunnyslope FBLA Website
CAMPUS PROMOTION
To spark interest about our Sunnyslope FBLA chapter on campus, we use three ways of communication. Our
media committee is responsible for creating flyers that include information about our chapter and membership
benefits. Also, our Director of Media Relations is accountable for creating morning announcement commercials
promoting Slope Central (school-store) and FBLA. Lastly, this year we continued to be part of the school’s
newspaper where they highlight our achievements and awards.
FBLA APPAREL
Our school has a tradition of wearing green and our FBLA shirts every Friday to show our pride for the
organization. As a chapter, we design new shirts twice a year and we wear them regularly.
BUSINESS PARTNER BLOGS
Paradigm Technology released a blog on February 20, 2019. It summarized, their training and assistance that they
gave to our chapter’s American Enterprise Project. We began by inviting a guest speaker to our business class to
Teach students about the American Enterprise System and ways to rebrand our student run store to increase in
sales. After a few months, of hard work and planning our goal to rebrand our student store became a reality.
9
Partnership with Business Project
Our chapter partnered with American Airlines for the
Partnership with Business Project to teach students about
business travel. Our chapter learned about various programs to
expedite the security process at an airport and about loyalty
programs such as AA Advantage. Throughout the entire year, American Airlines has provided us with important
insight that will help us become better, educated fliers. They accomplished by having many guest speakers come
and present to our class and our entire campus.
Hangar Tour & Concierge Tour
Prior to flying to Charlotte, NC for the National Fall Leadership Conference,
American Airlines offered us a tour of their hangar at the Phoenix Sky Harbor
Airport. Our chapter was able to see the various career opportunities available at
the airline. We saw their different planes and learned how all the employees work
together. Throughout this tour we all had an opportunity to learn about the work
behind an important airline. During our trip to Charlotte, we also had the opportunity
to enter the Concierge lounge and experience what it feels to be a special member of the American Airlines. In
the concierge lounge we all saw the benefits that awards program members receive.
American Enterprise Project
For this year’s American Enterprise Project, our chapter worked with the
concept of rebranding. For the past three years our FBLA chapter has been
running a student store called Slope Central. Since last year, our concept
had been spirit items and t-shirts. This year we wanted to rebrand our store
and went with to go with a convenience store idea. Since then, we have
been selling different merchandise including snacks, drinks, and phone chargers. Since we started our rebranding
project, Slope Central has been making more profit than ever.
Guest Speaker
To help with our rebranding project, a guest speaker from Paradigm Technology, Nicola Minton, came and
explained to our class and chapter about branding and rebranding. With her insight, we were able to start the
process of changing Slope Central. She guided us in how we should rebrand our store.
10
Community Service Project
This year for the Community Service Project, our
chapter has collaborated with Southwest Autism
Research and Resource Center (SARRC). Our
chapter is currently helping spread awareness around
our campus on what autism is and how it affects our
school and community.
Guest Speaker
Our chapter had two guest speakers from SARRC
present to students at our campus. They have talked
about the autism spectrum and the different programs
they offer at SARRC to help people with autism live
comfortably. The guest speakers helped us improve
our knowledge of autism and how we can help our
community.
Autism Speaks Walk
Our chapter had two guest speakers from SARRC
present to students at our campus. They have talked
about the autism spectrum and the different programs
they offer at SARRC to help people with autism live
comfortably. The guest speakers helped us improve
our knowledge of autism and how we can help our
community.
Autism Awareness Day
Autism Awareness Day is on April 2nd. We
promoted Autism Awareness Day by selling special
blue products and snacks. The revenue made from
these products was donated to SARRC and autism
research on behalf of Sunnyslope FBLA.
Beneficial Beans
During FBLA-PBL week in February, our chapter
participated in cleaning up the Beneficial Beans
garden at SARRC with the help of the Sunnyslope
garden club. We all had the opportunity to tour the
Beneficial Beans headquarters and a chance to look
at the products that they offer and some of the tools
they use to package them. Soon after, we went to
work and began by cleaning out weeds from the
garden and we made the vegetables look organized
and clean. At the end, the garden was clean and ready
to plant new vegetation.

Clear the Clutter
As students of Sunnyslope High School and
members of FBLA Arizona, we wanted to help
teachers on our campus. Held twice a year, Clear the
Clutter is an event where students participate and
help teachers clean their rooms. This event had taken
place during teacher appreciation week and
continued through the end of the year. We created
flyers and contacted teachers that may need help, our
service was a success and our chapter hosted another
Clear the Clutter for the beginning of the school year.
Due to summer renovations, our mission started once
again. For both events, members were accountable to
organize teacher paperwork, clean out teacher’s
closets and many other items. Overall, it was great to
show appreciation for our teachers around campus
and help them organize their classrooms in
preparation for another great year.
Winter Party
At Sunnyslope High School there is a class that is
dedicated for teens with special needs. Since these
teens go through tough challenges on daily basis. Our
members brought up an idea to celebrate the holidays
with the Special Ed class. In December, our local
FBLA chapter hosted the winter party. In
preparation, each teen was teamed with an FBLA
member. There were three stations of activities in
where all the teens had fun and spent time celebrating
the holiday season together.
Feed My Starving Children
Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit
organization that helps children around the world
receive a meal for an entire year. In order to survive,
they need to feed on the essential nutrients to become
a healthy child. Unfortunately, parents in some
countries are unable to give them that type of
nutrients simply because of the lack of money and
resources. On February 26, 2019, our chapter
participated in their neighborhood group volunteer
night where we were responsible to complete as
many MannaPacks as we can in 2 hours.
MannaPacks are a package that contains vitamins,
soy protein, dried vegetables and rice. Our chapter
completed 45 Boxes which equals 9,936 meals.

State Leadership Conference
April 4 – 8, 2018
State is a three-day event that takes place at the
Westin Paloma Resort and Spa located in Tucson,
AZ. At this conference members participate in their
competitions, attend great workshops and participate
in team building activities. This is a great opportunity
for members because they get to communicate and
network with FBLA members from other schools.
This conference provides entertainment for FBLA
members and creates lasting memories. After an
exciting couple of days, our chapter prepares for the
closing session and is ready to win awards.
National Leadership Conference
June 26, 2018 – July 2, 2018
This year 2018-2019 NLC took place in Baltimore,
MD. Fourteen students from the local chapter
attended the conference. At the conference, we had
the opportunity to explore great places such as
Washington, DC and the city of Baltimore. We
enjoyed competing and building our leadership
skills, while networking with students from all
around the country. We met new people and learned
new ways to improve in our events by attending open
events. Our chapter was successful and took home an
award in our Community Service Project.
National Fall Leadership Conference
November 14 - 18, 2018
Our chapter had the opportunity to grow in our
leadership and develop necessary business skills by
attending the NFLC. We attended various
informative workshops in where we met great
speakers and they shared with us important
information. During the trip our chapter also got a
chance to bond and attend team-building activities.
Regional Conference
January 19, 2019
Regionals is a one-day event that takes place at the
ASU West Polytechnic Campus in Mesa, AZ. The
day starts off with opening session where we get an
overview of the day. After opening session, members
attend their competitive event, workshops, and any
other activity at the conference. After a long day full
of ecstatic competitions, our chapter attends the
