KEY PERSONNEL PROFILE

SYLVIA PHUA

Chief Executive Officer, MP INTERNATIONAL PTE LTD

Sylvia joined the MP group of companies in 1999 and is currently its Chief Executive Officer. A journalist by training, she also holds a Master of Arts degree in communications Management. A veteran in the MICE industry, Sylvia has a flair for business development, marketing and management and has over 20 years of experience in these areas. She is adept in all aspects of the exhibition and conference business, from conceptualisation of events to project planning, implementation and budgetary management.

Under her leadership, the company completed several milestone projects. Besides handling the 117th International Olympics Council Session in 2005, MP was tasked to organise ITMA Asia, a mega textile machinery exhibition in Singapore and Shanghai.

The excellent partnership with the European show owner, CEMATEX for ITMA Asia, has resulted in MP International being appointed as the organiser of the main show in Europe. It was held in September 2011 in Barcelona, Spain. It is a feat for an Asian organiser to be appointed to handle a European mother show. The show occupied 200,000sqm exhibit space

Her strong client, government, partner and vendor relations and leadership enabled her to build an excellent network of contacts, supporters and associates that help ensure the success of the major events under her management. One of her key strengths was her industry knowledge in the region.



JASON NG

Executive Director, MP ASIA PTE LTD

Jason graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Science degree. He also

holds a Masters degree in Management from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management,

Australia. With over 15 years of MICE industry experience, Jason is well versed in all aspects of

exhibitions and meetings management. He is currently the Executive Director for MP Asia and serves

on the Board of the Singapore Association of Conference and Exhibition Organisers (SACEOS).

He has handled many major events as Project Director, including the prestigious Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders Week 2009 meetings at Suntec Singapore and the Istana. The meetings were attended by heads of state from 21 APEC economies, such as US President Barrack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao. He was also the project lead for two other APEC meetings: Transport Working Group Meeting and Women Leaders’ Network Meeting.

Jason also spearheaded negotiations with the ASEAN Business & Advisory Council, a grouping of prominent ASEAN business leaders, to manage the ASEAN Business & Investment Summit. The Summit was held in conjunction with the ASEAN Heads-of-States Summit. It featured ASEAN Heads-of-States as keynote speakers and attracted over 1000 C-level delegates.


KEY PERSONNEL PROFILEDAPHNE POON

Regional Marketing Communications Director, MP INTERNATIONAL PTE LTD

A trained teacher, Daphne taught for three years in a secondary school after graduating from the

Institute of Education. She is also a Bachelor of Arts degree holder in communication and media.

Following her stint as a secondary school teacher, her first private sector job was working in a PR

consultancy where she handled numerous projects, ranging from retainer consultancy to launches,

exhibitions, sponsorships, conferences, seminars, production of newsletters and other printed

materials.

At MP International, she heads the marketing communications team and is responsible for the

communications requirements of the exhibitions and conferences under the group. Since joining the

group in 2001, she has handled trade shows in Singapore and China (InfoComm China, Integrated

Systems China, IT&CM China and China EPower), and the mega textile machinery show - ITMA ASIA

2001 and 2005.

Besides handling the communications requirements of trade shows, in 2003 she was roped in to

project direct ClickArt – World Photojournalist Meet. The event in December 2003 attracted about 200

photojournalists and photo enthusiasts from all over the world. It was organised by the National Arts

Council, Singapore Tourism Board, Economic Development Board and Contact Singapore.

In March 2006, she also handled a thematic exhibition to showcase Singapore’s intellectual property

and branding journey for the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore during the Diplomatic

Conference 2006.


KEY PERSONNEL PROFILEYAP LAI CHENG

Senior Manager, MP ASIA PTE LTD

Lai Cheng graduated from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University with a Bachelor Degree in

Business Administration (Marketing) with Distinction and started her career in the exhibition and

conference business with MP International in 1995.

At MP, she iS actively involved in the project management and organisation of high level government

meetings including ASEAN and other regional meetings. She has managed meetings for clients across

many government organisations and is highly valued for her strong organisational skills and high

standard of customer service.

She was part of the core team that managed the APEC Leaders’ Week 2009 in Singapore. She managed all the Bilateral meetings at APEC 2009 and coordinated onsite requirement for support facilities including the Ops Hub, Transport Hub, Common Delegates Area, International Media Centre, Economy Spaces, Sponsor Booths, Ministers’ Holding Rooms and Bilateral Rooms, Secretariat rooms and other office suites at Suntec.

In her current position, Lai Cheng oversees MP’s government related projects and meetings and has acted as Project Director for several ASEAN meetings.



KORICE CHUA

Manager, MP ASIA PTE LTD

Korice graduated from the Singapore Management University in 2005 with a Bachelor Degree in

Business Management, majoring in Marketing. She started her career in the MICE industry at Suntec

Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre as a Meeting Specialist.

In late 2008, the opportunity to manage the APEC Singapore 2009 meetings arose, and Korice took up the challenge to handle the once-in-a-lifetime event with IE Singapore. Together with the event management company, Korice led the Conference Facilities sub-committee in putting together all requirements by the Organising Committee and other sub-committees, and ensuring that the meetings went on smoothly. Korice was awarded the Special Recognition Award by PM Lee for her outstanding performance during the APEC Singapore 2009 meetings.

Korice joined MP Asia in 2011 and was the Deputy Project Director For the World Orchid Conference which saw over 1,000 conference delegates and some 300,000 visitors to the exhibition.


KEY PERSONNEL PROFILEJENESTA LEONG

Manager, MP ASIA PTE LTD

Jenesta graduated from the University of London, London School of Economics in 2002 with a

Bachelors of Science in Management. She joined MP international in 2011 and completed the

inaugural South Asian Diaspora Convention 2011 in July.

Prior to joining MP International, Jenesta was part of the conference team with Singapore Exhibition

Services, managing conferences for tradeshows namely, BroadcastAsia (BCA), RadioAsia (Singapore

and India), CIA, EnviroAsia, MetalAsia (MTA) and Food&HotelAsia (FHA). She has worked with

industry leaders in the broadcasting, engineering, manufacturing and the club sector. Planning for

conferences and social events for tradeshows include budgeting, marketing, speakers and delegates

management, sponsorship, and other logistical requirements.

With more than 7 years’ experience in events and meetings management, Jenesta has proven to be

analytical, resourceful and an important team member. Jenesta was the Deputy Project Director of the

recently concluded World Chinese Entrepreneurs Conference which attracted 4,000 delegates.
