NORDIC SOUNDS & STORIES

Elisa Seppanen (Finland) Get emerged into the Nordic scenery and atmosphere through an elemental music education process that includes elements of play, song, dance and active listening! Together with the musical community we will travel deep into the rhythm and groove of Nordic Folk tales!

PLAY THE DANCE, MOVE THE RHYTHM: ORFF AFRIQUE DANCE-DRUMMING Kofi Gbolonyo (Ghana)

We will explore Orff Afrique approach to teaching dance-drumming. Using indigenous Ghanaian drumming and dancing techniques blended with Orff-Schulwerk, the sessions will involve hands-on drumming and dancing/movement, instrumental arranging, dance choreography and exploration of Orff Afrique teaching process and techniques. We will also discuss traditional and contemporary performance practices. Participants can bring any flute they have and wish to play.

LESSONS for all participants

KEEPING THE BEAT Reinhold Wirsching (Austria)

Games and exercises with Body Percussion and sound objects stimulate coordinaton and support rhythmic-metrical security. Movement and voice lead to playing on Orff Instruments, Boomwhackers and other percussion instruments. Vocal, instrumental improvisation and reproduction complement each other.

MUSICAL CIRCLES Uirà Kuhlmann (Brasile)

Numerous activities will be experimented with the use of circles: circles and sculptures, musical games, circles like a chessboard: the set of activities creates a universe of musical magic. Music concepts and functions can be explored extensively with this material in a fun and playful way: beat, rhythmic divisions, melodic movements, sentences.

WORKSHOPS

MUSICAL GROWTH Comprehensive Approach to Music Education

Elisa Seppanen If we imagine that a musical community is a resonating composition, each child or individual can be visualised as a melody that contributes to its harmony. This inner melody is constantly living and evolving through experiences. It also reflects and repeats the notes and themes produced by the surrounding environment. All our comprehensive growth happens to the rhythm of this composition, both mentally and physically. It strongly influences our cognitive, motor, social, aesthetic developmental. In early music education our task is to nurture, nourish and stimulate these individual melodies to join in, play and move freely within that composition - together as a living and vibrant musical community, all the while following and supporting the comprehensive growth of the child. In this presentation and workshop we are going to explore how the musical community can support comprehensive development. We will also learn about the development and results of the Finnish early music education system.

WEST AFRICAN MUSIC AND DANCE IN MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION

Dr J.S. Kofi Gbolonyo

Children’s Games with Movement and Songs: analysis and performance of African games and songs (mostly from West Africa), including clapping games, cup or stone passing games and songs, birthday name games and songs, and other multi-linguistic movement games and songs.

Singing with Percussion and Movement: an Indigenous Approach to Singing We will explore indigenous and contemporary West African choral/vocal music teaching and performance practices. Session include learning selected traditional/contemporary West African vocal/choral music through Orff Afrique technique

Gyil The Ghananian Traditional Xylophone and Orff-Schuwerk What is the connection between the Ghanaian gyil (xylophone) and the Orff Instrumentarium (xylophone)? This session takes practical approaches to the history of the Orff xylophone. It will involve a brief talk and a full hands-on experience in traditional and contemporary gyil music for children with percussion and movement accompaniment.

Every participant will choose 2 workshops

THE JOY OF SINGING

Reinhold Wirsching

Games, exercises and activities develop vocal skills such as breath control, articulation, intonation. Practical sequences for vocal work and body awareness will be applicable with students of various ages. Speech pieces, canons and part-songs from different cultures stimulate vocal expression and improvisation.

MUSIC GAMES WITH BOOMWHACKERS®!

Uirà Kuhlmann

The colored tubes will allow us to find activities and games in movement.

Music can come from word games in rhythmic and phonic aspects, creating fun musical challenges.

A panorama of musical experiences and dynamic situations of collaboration; the creative approach will use the notes of the tubes, creating the music in the form of a game.

Repertory ranging from folklore to classic: Fra Martino, La cucaracha, In the hall of the mountain king (Grieg), Pink panther (Henri Mancini), Samba de Verão (Marcos Valle), Dance of Knights (Prokofiev), Libertango (Astor Piazzolla), Cantata 147 (Bach), Game of Thrones (Ramin Djawadi)

BEYOND THE IMAGE

Sandra Bonizzato Words and images of an illustrated book give us the chance of emotionally diving in a world rich of creativity and imagination. The images are connected to music and movement to create an integration between them. During the workshop we will be using rhymes, songs, movement activities and dances, using objects and musical instruments. The chosen book will be for children between the age of 3 to 7 years old.
