Rollgliss™RescueMate™HaulKitsareavailableinfourconfigurationsandmultipleworkinglengths.Theyareclassifiedaseitherautomaticormanualintheirlockingandunlockingfunction.Automaticunitscanbeengagedanddisengagedbytheoperationoftheroperunningthroughtheheadunitwhilemanuallockingunitswillalwayshavethelockingcamengagedunlesstheuseroperatesastringattachedtothelockingcam.AutoLockingunitsincorporateanoverspeedfunctionwhichwillautomaticallylockofftheunitinthecaseofanuncontrolleddescent.

Theprogresscapturecamsaredesignedwithatoothpatternthatmaximisesgripwithminimaleffecttotheropeandallowsuphaulofaloadwhilerestrictingloweringwhenengaged.MinimumbreakingstrengthatCamisdeterminedatthepointwheretheropesheathisdamagedwithnodistortiontothecamorhead.Loadsarestillsupportedatthispointasthedamageislimitedtothesheathandnottheropecorewherethemajorityofstrengthremains.

Individualcomponents(head,travellingpulleyandrope)carrytheirowncertificationsandaretestedasseparatecomponentsoutsideofthesekits.TheRollgliss™RescueMate™HaulKitsarecertifiedasacompletesystemandassuchcarryseparatemarkingsforthekitaslabelledonthetailendoftheropeitself.Sewnterminationsmaximisestrengthandensurethatfactoryterminationsandcertificationsaremaintained.

EquipmentcoveredbythisinstructionmanualconformswiththerequirementsofANSIZ359.4.Aspertherequirementsofthisstandardthisinstructionshallbeprovidedtotherescuer.

Anchorsshouldbepositionedasdirectlyaspossibleabovetheworkertoreducerisksassociatedwithswingfallwheretheworkermaypendulumintoanobstruction.Usersmustconsultlocallegislation/standards.

TheuseofasecondaryfallarrestsystemisrecommendedwhenusingRollgliss™TechnicalRescue,RescueMate™HaulKits.

PersonsengagedinrescueoperationsthatareexposedtoafallhazardmustbeprovidedananchoragesuitableforfallarrestinaccordancewithANSI/ASSEZ359.1.

Anchorageconnectorsshallnotbeattachedtoanchorageswheresuchattachmentwouldreducetheanchoragesystemstrengthbelowtheapplicablelevelorreducetheanchoragestrengthbelowtheallowablelevelsetbyapplicablestructuralcodes.

Anchorageconnectionsshallbestabilizedtopreventunwantedmovementordisengagementoftherescuesystemfromtheanchorage.Verifysystemconnectionsbypre-tensioningthesystembeforeapplyingtheintendedload.

5.0 CONNECTING THE HAUL KITS

Rollgliss™TechnicalRescue,RescueMate™HaulKitsaresuppliedroped,withconnectorsoneitherendofthemechanicaladvantagesystem.Normallyusedforraisingorlowering,theheadofthekitwouldbeanchoredtoasecureanchorageaspertheprevioussection,andthetravellingendwouldbeconnectedtotheworker'sharnessorsuspensionplatform/seat.Careandattentionmustbetakenwhenmakingtheconnectionbothattheheadoftheunitandthetravellingendthatallconnectorsareproperlyclosedandlocked.

Connectingtherunningendtoyourharnessorworkplatformshouldensurethattheconnectionpointisratedforsuspensionandprovidesacomfortablesuspensionoftheworkerintheirharness.

CapitalSafetyrecommendstheuseofasecondaryfallarrestsystemanytimeworkers/rescuersorcasualtiesaresuspended.

6.0 OPERATING THE MANUAL LOCK HAUL KIT

(Image6.0.1).TheHaulKitsoperateeitherwithamanualunlockingsystemorautomaticunlockingsystem.Themanualkits,partnumberseries8701XXXand8702XXXutiliseacamwhichisalwaysincontactwiththeropeunlesstheusermanuallyoperatesthecam,holdingitofftherope.Thedesignofthecamandangleoftheteethallowtheropetorunthroughpastthecamwithoutrestrictionwhenthehaulingendoftheropeispulledthroughtheheadoftheunit.Thisallowsforunhinderedraisingandimmediateprogresscapture.

6.1 RAISING WITH THE MANUAL LOCK HAUL KIT

ToraiseusingtheRescueMate™ManualHaulKitssimplypullontheloadlineoftheunit.Theworkerwillberaisedproportionally(dependinguponthemechanicaladvantageoftheHaulKit)andthelockingmechanismwillensurethattheworkerdoesnotdescendwhenthepressureistakenoffthehaulrope.Raisingcancontinueuntiltherunningendoftheunitisjustbelowthehead.

CareshouldbetakennottocollapsetheHaulKitbypullingtootight.Thiscandamagetheropeandmakeitverydifficulttounlockthecam(Image6.1.1).

6.2 LOWERING WITH THE MANUAL LOCK HAUL KIT

TolowerusingtheRescueMate™ManualHaulKitstheusermustusethesmallcamcordthatexitsthesideoftheunit'sheadinconjunctionwiththeloadline(Image6.2.1). Giventhedesignandorientationontheteethofthelockingcam,whenthereisdownwardpressureonthesystemtheteethdigintotheropeandholdtheloadinplace(Image6.2.2).Beforethecamcanbereleasedthispressuremustberemoved.

LoweringwiththeManualHaulKitsrequirestheworkertoremovethepressureonthecambyraisingtheloadslightly.Thiswillpulltheropethroughthelockingcamreleasingthepressureontheteeth(Image6.2.3).Theuserwillthenlightlygripthecamreleasecordandpullitawayfromtheunit,holdingthecamawayfromtherope.Thisslightpressuremustbemaintainedonthecamreleasecordtokeepthecam'steethawayfromtheropeduringtheloweringexercise.Withthecamopen,theuserwillstarttoloosentheirgripontheloadlineandallowtheropetoslidethroughtheirhand,loweringtheload.Atanypointtheworkercanstopthelowerbyeitherlettinggoofthecamreleasecordorbytighteningtheirgripontheloadline.

7.0 OPERATING THE AUTOMATIC LOCK HAUL KIT

AswiththeManualLockHaulKits,Rollgliss™TechnicalRescue,RescueMate™AutomaticHaulKitsareprovidedwithanintegralcamwhichprovidesaprogresscapturesystemwhenraisingaworkerorcasualty.TheAutomatickits,partnumberseries 8704XXX and 8705XXX utilise a engagementplatewhichwillholdthelockingcamoffoftheropeallowingforunhinderedoperation(Image7.0.1).

Whenraising,thedesignofthecamandangleoftheteethallowtheropetorunpastthecamwithoutrestrictionasthehaulingendoftheropeispulledthroughtheheadoftheunit.Thisdesignfeatureinconjunctionwiththeengagementplateallowsforeaseofoperationandefficientprogresscapture.

7.1 RAISING WITH THE AUTOMATIC LOCK HAUL KIT

ToraiseusingtheRescueMate™AutomaticHaulKitssimplypullontheloadlineoftheunit.Theworkerwillberaisedproportionally(dependinguponthemechanicaladvantageoftheHaulKit).Whenhauling,theengagementplatewillrotatewiththedrumoftheunit.Dependinguponwheretheplateisinthisrotationwhenpressureistakenoff

thehaulline,thecammaybeheldintheopenposition.Simplycontinuetoraisetheloadaveryshortdistancetounlockthecamandprovidetheprogresscapture.Userswillimmediatelyfeeltheropeeitherholdormovewithintheunittoknowwhetherthecamisengagedornot.AswiththeManualKit,raisingcancontinueuntiltherunningendoftheunitisjustbelowthehead.

CareshouldbetakennottocollapsetheHaulKitbypullingtootight.Thiscandamagetheropeandmakeitverydifficulttounlockthecam.

7.2 LOWERING WITH THE AUTOMATIC LOCK HAUL KIT

TolowerusingtheRescueMate™AutomaticHaulKitstheuserwillraisetheloaduntiltheyfeeltheengagementplateholdthecamopen(Image7.2.1).

Withtheengagementplateinthecorrectpositionandthecamopen,theuserwillstarttoloosentheirgriponthe

loadlineandallowtheropetoslidethroughtheirhand,loweringtheload.Atanypointtheusercanstopthelowerbytighteningtheirgripontheloadline.

Careshouldbetakentocontroltheloweringspeedatalltimeswiththebrakehand(ontheloadline)whenthecamisopen.However,theAutomaticLockHaulkitissuppliedwithanoverspeedbrakethatwillengagewhenthesystemlowerstoofast.Onceactivated,theengagementplatewillreleasethecamandtheloadwillbestopped.Tocontinuelowering,theworkerwillraisetheloadsothattheengagementplatewillopenthecamandcontinuetolowerasbefore.

WARNING: AlwaysinspectyourHaulKitaspersection8.0Inspection.A)NeveruseaHaulKitwhichisdamaged,warpedorshowssignofexcessiveloading.

B)Wherecamsandlatchesaredamaged,stickingorfunctioningimproperlytheHaulKitshouldbetakenoutofservice.

C)Neverexceedtheratedloadlimitasperthismanual(section3.0)andunitmarkings.

G)WherethereisconcernregardingtheconditionoftheHaulKit,itmustbewithdrawnfromservice.Contactthemanufactureroritsserviceagencyforassistance.

H)TheuseoftheHaulKitinarescueorpositioningsystemreliesonthecompatibilityofthevariouscomponentsofthesystem.Usersmustbeawareofhoweachcomponentofthesystemworkswithothercomponentstoensuresafeoperations.TheHaulKitiscertifiedasacompleteunitincludingrope,headandrunningpulleys.Onlythemanufacturerortheiragentisauthorisedtoservice,reeve(roping)orrepairtheunit.

ItisrecommendedthatpropertrainingisundertakenbytheusertoensurethattheHaulKitisusedcorrectly.Alwaysensurethattheuseofadevicewillnotpotentiallyoverloadthesystem.

8.0 INSPECTION

Rollgliss™TechnicalRescue,RescueMate™HaulKitsmustbevisuallyandmanuallyinspectedbeforeandaftereachusetoverifythatthedeviceisoperatingcorrectly.Anyproductwhichhasbeenwithdrawnfromservicemustbeinspectedbyacompetentpersonandmayonlybereturnedtoserviceifsaidcompetentpersonauthorisesinwritingtheuseofthatproduct.

Whereanyproductfailsaninspection,hasbeenusedinarescueorhasseentheforceofafall,itistobeimmediatelytakenoutofserviceandtaggedunusable.Suchproductsmustbecertifiedbythemanufacturerand/ortheirrepresentativepriortore-instatementtoservice.Wheretheproductisdeemedunserviceable,theproductshallbedestroyedormadeinoperableandsecurelydisposedof.

Duringtheuserinspectionyoumust:Inspecttheunitandallattachedcomponentsforproperoperationandanydamagethatmayimpairtheproperoperationoftheunit.

Rollgliss™TechnicalRescue,RescueMate™HaulKitsaresuppliedasatotalsystemincludingropeandconnectors.Ifanycomponentofthesystemismissingorreplacedwithanon-factorysuppliedcomponent,theHaulKitistoberemovedfromserviceandreturnedtothemanufacturerortheirauthorisedagentforservice.

Alllabelsandmarkingsmustbepresentandlegible.Inspectmarkingsandlabelsonallcomponentsofthedeviceincludingtheunithead,pulleysandthetailendoftheloadline.

Oncethepropermarkingandlabelsarevalidated,continueinspectionwiththeconnectingmeans:

Karabiner: • Ensure hookisnotbent,rusted/corrodedor

misshapen • Ensure gateopensandautomaticallycloses. • Ensure hookisnotgougedornickedsuchthatit

mayaffectthestrengthoftheattachment.

Rope: • Ensure nocuts,burnsordamagetotherope

material. • Alwaysensurethatnosectionofthecoreisvisible

throughtherope'ssheath.

HeadUnit: • Inspecttheoutersurfaceoftheheadtoensure

thatthereisnoexternaldamage,dents,rustorcorrosion.

• Operatethedevicebypullingatleastametre(3.3ft.)ofropethroughthedevice,ensuringthatrunseasilythroughthedevicewithoutrestriction.Reversetheoperationbyopeningthecamandpullingtherunningpulleysextendingtheropebetweentheheadandrunningpulley.

• Inspecttheheadunitsheavesforanynicks,corrosionordamagethatmayaffecttheroperunningoverthem.

• Inspectthelockingcamtoensureitoperatesas

requiredandthatthereisnodamagetotheteethorspringswhichholditinplace.

• Withtheautolockdevices,ensurethattheengagementplaterotateswhileraisingtheunitandthatitre-engagesthecamasitrotates.

RunningPulley: •Ensurethatthesheaverotatesfreelyinthe

assembly; •Ensurethereisnodirtbuildupintheareaofthe

sheaveandpulleycheeks; •Ensurethereisnodeformationofthepulleycheeks; •Ensurethereisnocorrosionofthemetal

components; •Inspectthattherearenocracksorbreaksinthe

bodyofthepulley.

Anyequipmentfailingtomeettherequirementsoftheinspectioncriteriashallbeappropriatelytaggedorlabelledandremovedfromservice.Equipmentshouldthendestroyedorreturnedtothemanufacturer.

9.0 INSPECTION PERIOD

Inspectionfrequencyisdictatedbylocallegislation/standardsandmanufacturerrecommendations.

ItisrecommendedthatRollgliss™TechnicalRescue,RescueMate™HaulKitsbeinspectedbytheuserbeforeandafteruseandbyacompetentperson(inspector)every6monthstohelpmaintainproductserviceability.

10.0 MAINTENANCE

Rollgliss™TechnicalRescue,RescueMate™HaulKitsarePersonalProtectiveEquipment(PPE)andneedtobemaintainedtoensureasafeworkinglife.Itisrecommendedthattheuserofthisequipmentfollowthefollowingmaintenanceprocedures.A)WashHaulKitsincleanwateronly.Attentionshouldbegiventothecamandcamassisttoensureanygritisremovedandtheyaremovingsmoothly.Ifyouneedtoremovegritormorestubborndirtandgrimethatoftencausesstiffnessintheoperationofthecam,alightcleaningagentsuchasWD40orequivalentmaybeused.Whenacleaningagentisused,ensurethatallremnantsarewashedoffandthatthecleaningagentdoesnotcomeintocontactwiththerope.

B)Afterwashing,drytheunitwithasoftclothandhangtheropeinawellventilatedareaoutofdirectsunlight,toallowforproperdrying.

C)InspectRollgliss™RescueMate™HaulKitsaspertheinspectionsectionwithinthismanual.Iftheunitfailsinspectionorthereisconcernaboutitscondition,returntheunittoCapitalSafetyandortheirauthorisedserviceagentforservice.

11.0 PRODUCT LIFE

Rollgliss™RescueMate™HaulKitsareconstructedofhighqualitymaterialsthatifproperlymaintainedwillcontinuetooperateoveranextendedperiodandundeterminedlifetime.Ropelifespanisdirectlydependentuponuseandapplicationbutwillnormallyhaveamaximum10yearoperatinglifeafteritisfirstplacedintoservice.Lifespanofthekitisconditionalonpropermaintenanceandinspectionandprovidedthatitisinspectedonatleasta6monthlybasisbyacompetentpersonandismaintainedinaccordancewiththerequirementsoutlinedinthismanual.Underregionalstandardscertainweband/orropeproductsmayhaveashorterlifespan.Alwaysrefertolocalstandardsandlegislationtoconfirmproductlifeandinspectionrequirements.

12.0 USE CONDITIONS

designedforuseinthenormalworkingconditionsfoundintheindustrialmarket.Thisincludesambienttemperaturessuchashot,drywetandcoldworkingconditions.Thetemperaturerangerecommendedforthedeviceis-40°-+50°Celsius,-40°-+122°Fahrenheit.

Wheretemperaturestobeexperiencedintheareaofusefailoutsidethistemperaturerange,theusershouldcontactthemanufacturertoverifysuitabilityofuse.Theinfluenceofextremewetandcoldconditionsmaychangetheworkingcharacteristics,i.e.easeofuseoftheHaulKit.Howeversuchconditionsshouldnotaffecttheworkingstrengthoftheunit.CareshouldbetakenwhenusingHaulKitsinextremeweather.Iceandsnowmustbeclearedfromthedevicetoensuresmoothoperation.WhereaHaulKit(metalcomponents)comesintocontactwithchemicals,theunitneedstobecleanedassoonaspracticableandinspectedforanysurfacedamagetothefinishandmetals.Anycontactoftheropewithchemicalsshouldbeconsideredahazardandtheunitshouldberemovedfromserviceimmediatelyandsentbacktothemanufacturerortheirauthorisedserviceagentforservice.AllchemicalsandsolventsshouldbeconsideredharmfulandcareshouldbetakentomaintainandinspecttheseHaulKitsbeforeeachusewherechemicalsarepresent.

AnyuserofRollgliss™TechnicalRescue,RescueMate™HaulKitsthatworkinanareaofpossiblechemicalcontaminationneedstocarryoutariskassessmentandprepareasafeworkmethodstatement.Theseshouldincludethecleaningandinspectioncriteriafortheequipmentbasedonthepotentialdamagefromchemicalsintheworkarea.AlwayschecktheMSDSofanychemicalsthatcouldcomeintocontactwiththeunit,ropeoranyCapitalSafetyproduct.

13.0 LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY (AUSTRALIA)

Warranty to End User: Capital Safety Group (Australia) PtyLtd (“Capital Safety”) warrants to the original end user (“EndUser”) that its products are free fromdefects inmaterials andworkmanship under normal use and service. This warrantyextendsforthelifetimeoftheproductfromthedatetheproductispurchasedbytheEndUser,innewandunusedcondition,fromaCapitalSafetyauthoriseddistributor.ThiswarrantyisprovidedinadditiontootherrightsandremediesavailabletotheEndUserunderlaw.
