Rollgliss™RescueMate™HaulKitsareavailableinfourconfigurationsandmultipleworkinglengths.Theyareclassifiedaseitherautomaticormanualintheirlockingandunlockingfunction.Automaticunitscanbeengagedanddisengagedbytheoperationoftheroperunningthroughtheheadunitwhilemanuallockingunitswillalwayshavethelockingcamengagedunlesstheuseroperatesastringattachedtothelockingcam.AutoLockingunitsincorporateanoverspeedfunctionwhichwillautomaticallylockofftheunitinthecaseofanuncontrolleddescent.

Theprogresscapturecamsaredesignedwithatoothpatternthatmaximisesgripwithminimaleffecttotheropeandallowsuphaulofaloadwhilerestrictingloweringwhenengaged.MinimumbreakingstrengthatCamisdeterminedatthepointwheretheropesheathisdamagedwithnodistortiontothecamorhead.Loadsarestillsupportedatthispointasthedamageislimitedtothesheathandnottheropecorewherethemajorityofstrengthremains.

Individualcomponents(head,travellingpulleyandrope)carrytheirowncertificationsandaretestedasseparatecomponentsoutsideofthesekits.TheRollgliss™RescueMate™HaulKitsarecertifiedasacompletesystemandassuchcarryseparatemarkingsforthekitaslabelledonthetailendoftheropeitself.Sewnterminationsmaximisestrengthandensurethatfactoryterminationsandcertificationsaremaintained.

CertifiedNFPA1983(2012edition)auxiliaryequipment,MinimumBreakingStrength(MBS)andMaximumLoadLimit(MLL)ratingsarespecifiedasperindividualmodels.Seemarkingsonthedeviceitselffordetails.AllRollgliss™TechnicalRescueHaulKitscoveredbythisdocumentareratedG(GeneralUse)asacompleteunit,withtheoriginalropesuppliedbythemanufactureandterminatedwiththeoriginalconnectionswhethersewnorotherwiseattached.

EquipmentcoveredbythisinstructionmanualconformswiththerequirementsofANSIZ359.4.Aspertherequirementsofthisstandardthisinstructionshallbeprovidedtotherescuer.

Classificationunderrelevantstandardsisuniqueforeachdevicecertifiedandwillbemarkeduponthedeviceitself.

5.0 CONNECTING THE HAUL KITS

Rollgliss™TechnicalRescue,RescueMate™HaulKitsaresuppliedroped,withconnectorsoneitherendofthemechanicaladvantagesystem.Normallyusedforraisingorlowering,theheadofthekitwouldbeanchoredtoasecureanchorageaspertheprevioussection,andthetravellingendwouldbeconnectedtotheworker'sharnessorsuspensionplatform/seat.Careandattentionmustbetakenwhenmakingtheconnectionbothattheheadoftheunitandthetravellingendthatallconnectorsareproperlyclosedandlocked.

Connectingtherunningendtoyourharnessorworkplatformshouldensurethattheconnectionpointisratedforsuspensionandprovidesacomfortablesuspensionoftheworkerintheirharness.

CapitalSafetyrecommendstheuseofasecondaryfallarrestsystemanytimeworkers/rescuersorcasualtiesaresuspended.

ToraiseusingtheRescueMate™ManualHaulKitssimplypullontheloadlineoftheunit.Theworkerwillberaisedproportionally(dependinguponthemechanicaladvantageoftheHaulKit)andthelockingmechanismwillensurethattheworkerdoesnotdescendwhenthepressureistakenoffthehaulrope.Raisingcancontinueuntiltherunningendoftheunitisjustbelowthehead.

CareshouldbetakennottocollapsetheHaulKitbypullingtootight.Thiscandamagetheropeandmakeitverydifficulttounlockthecam(Image6.1.1).

6.2 LOWERING WITH THE MANUAL LOCK HAUL KIT

TolowerusingtheRescueMate™ManualHaulKitstheusermustusethesmallcamcordthatexitsthesideoftheunit'sheadinconjunctionwiththeloadline(Image6.2.1). Giventhedesignandorientationontheteethofthelockingcam,whenthereisdownwardpressureonthesystemtheteethdigintotheropeandholdtheloadinplace(Image6.2.2).Beforethecamcanbereleasedthispressuremustberemoved.

LoweringwiththeManualHaulKitsrequirestheworkertoremovethepressureonthecambyraisingtheloadslightly.Thiswillpulltheropethroughthelockingcamreleasingthepressureontheteeth(Image6.2.3).Theuserwillthenlightlygripthecamreleasecordandpullitawayfromtheunit,holdingthecamawayfromtherope.Thisslightpressuremustbemaintainedonthecamreleasecordtokeepthecam'steethawayfromtheropeduringtheloweringexercise.Withthecamopen,theuserwillstarttoloosentheirgripontheloadlineandallowtheropetoslidethroughtheirhand,loweringtheload.Atanypointtheworkercanstopthelowerbyeitherlettinggoofthecamreleasecordorbytighteningtheirgripontheloadline.

Whenraising,thedesignofthecamandangleoftheteethallowtheropetorunpastthecamwithoutrestrictionasthehaulingendoftheropeispulledthroughtheheadoftheunit.Thisdesignfeatureinconjunctionwiththeengagementplateallowsforeaseofoperationandefficientprogresscapture.

7.1 RAISING WITH THE AUTOMATIC LOCK HAUL KIT

CareshouldbetakennottocollapsetheHaulKitbypullingtootight.Thiscandamagetheropeandmakeitverydifficulttounlockthecam.

7.2 LOWERING WITH THE AUTOMATIC LOCK HAUL KIT

TolowerusingtheRescueMate™AutomaticHaulKitstheuserwillraisetheloaduntiltheyfeeltheengagementplateholdthecamopen(Image7.2.1).

Careshouldbetakentocontroltheloweringspeedatalltimeswiththebrakehand(ontheloadline)whenthecamisopen.However,theAutomaticLockHaulkitissuppliedwithanoverspeedbrakethatwillengagewhenthesystemlowerstoofast.Onceactivated,theengagementplatewillreleasethecamandtheloadwillbestopped.Tocontinuelowering,theworkerwillraisetheloadsothattheengagementplatewillopenthecamandcontinuetolowerasbefore.

8.0 INSPECTION

Rollgliss™TechnicalRescue,RescueMate™HaulKitsmustbevisuallyandmanuallyinspectedbeforeandaftereachusetoverifythatthedeviceisoperatingcorrectly.Anyproductwhichhasbeenwithdrawnfromservicemustbeinspectedbyacompetentpersonandmayonlybereturnedtoserviceifsaidcompetentpersonauthorisesinwritingtheuseofthatproduct.

Whereanyproductfailsaninspection,hasbeenusedinarescueorhasseentheforceofafall,itistobeimmediatelytakenoutofserviceandtaggedunusable.Suchproductsmustbecertifiedbythemanufacturerand/ortheirrepresentativepriortore-instatementtoservice.Wheretheproductisdeemedunserviceable,theproductshallbedestroyedormadeinoperableandsecurelydisposedof.

Duringtheuserinspectionyoumust:Inspecttheunitandallattachedcomponentsforproperoperationandanydamagethatmayimpairtheproperoperationoftheunit.

Rollgliss™TechnicalRescue,RescueMate™HaulKitsaresuppliedasatotalsystemincludingropeandconnectors.Ifanycomponentofthesystemismissingorreplacedwithanon-factorysuppliedcomponent,theHaulKitistoberemovedfromserviceandreturnedtothemanufacturerortheirauthorisedagentforservice.

Alllabelsandmarkingsmustbepresentandlegible.Inspectmarkingsandlabelsonallcomponentsofthedeviceincludingtheunithead,pulleysandthetailendoftheloadline.

Oncethepropermarkingandlabelsarevalidated,continueinspectionwiththeconnectingmeans:

• Inspecttheheadunitsheavesforanynicks,corrosionordamagethatmayaffecttheroperunningoverthem.

• Inspectthelockingcamtoensureitoperatesas

requiredandthatthereisnodamagetotheteethorspringswhichholditinplace.

• Withtheautolockdevices,ensurethattheengagementplaterotateswhileraisingtheunitandthatitre-engagesthecamasitrotates.

RunningPulley: •Ensurethatthesheaverotatesfreelyinthe

assembly; •Ensurethereisnodirtbuildupintheareaofthe

sheaveandpulleycheeks; •Ensurethereisnodeformationofthepulleycheeks; •Ensurethereisnocorrosionofthemetal

Rollgliss™TechnicalRescue,RescueMate™HaulKitsarePersonalProtectiveEquipment(PPE)andneedtobemaintainedtoensureasafeworkinglife.Itisrecommendedthattheuserofthisequipmentfollowthefollowingmaintenanceprocedures.A)WashHaulKitsincleanwateronly.Attentionshouldbegiventothecamandcamassisttoensureanygritisremovedandtheyaremovingsmoothly.Ifyouneedtoremovegritormorestubborndirtandgrimethatoftencausesstiffnessintheoperationofthecam,alightcleaningagentsuchasWD40orequivalentmaybeused.Whenacleaningagentisused,ensurethatallremnantsarewashedoffandthatthecleaningagentdoesnotcomeintocontactwiththerope.

designedforuseinthenormalworkingconditionsfoundintheindustrialmarket.Thisincludesambienttemperaturessuchashot,drywetandcoldworkingconditions.Thetemperaturerangerecommendedforthedeviceis-40°-+50°Celsius,-40°-+122°Fahrenheit.

Wheretemperaturestobeexperiencedintheareaofusefailoutsidethistemperaturerange,theusershouldcontactthemanufacturertoverifysuitabilityofuse.Theinfluenceofextremewetandcoldconditionsmaychangetheworkingcharacteristics,i.e.easeofuseoftheHaulKit.Howeversuchconditionsshouldnotaffecttheworkingstrengthoftheunit.CareshouldbetakenwhenusingHaulKitsinextremeweather.Iceandsnowmustbeclearedfromthedevicetoensuresmoothoperation.WhereaHaulKit(metalcomponents)comesintocontactwithchemicals,theunitneedstobecleanedassoonaspracticableandinspectedforanysurfacedamagetothefinishandmetals.Anycontactoftheropewithchemicalsshouldbeconsideredahazardandtheunitshouldberemovedfromserviceimmediatelyandsentbacktothemanufacturerortheirauthorisedserviceagentforservice.AllchemicalsandsolventsshouldbeconsideredharmfulandcareshouldbetakentomaintainandinspecttheseHaulKitsbeforeeachusewherechemicalsarepresent.

13.0 LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY (AUSTRALIA)
