IN MARCH 2012 Godsbanen opened as Aarhus’ center of art and cultural production. The purpose of Godsbanen is to bring together a diverse, inter-disciplinary culture producing environment. Godsbanen is thereby promoting the development of a dynamic and vibrant arts and cultural environment locally, nationally and internationally.

At Godsbanen there are three professional art centers for the performing arts, visual arts and literature. There is also a range of facilitators, including a producing theater, a regional venue, a café/restaurant, an open and curated stage (black box), film workshops and a number of well-equipped open workshops for graphic design/printing, laser cutter, textile/screen printing, plaster/clay, wood and metal.

South of the rebuilt and renovated freight buildings is the Institute of (X) in the old railroad buildings. Institute of (X) is a dynamic cluster of alternative entrepreneurial and cultural projects more freely organized, and which gives the whole area color and edge.

WE WANT TO BE DISTURBED! When you stay at Godsbanen please feel free to contact us. We’d love to know you better and to bring you and your abilities into play in the house. Tell us how, when and with what.

CAFÉ/RESTAURANTSpiselauget provides a framework for the community at Godsbanen, where more than 100 contractors reside.

Spiselauget’s core business is to serve both the house’s internal users and townspeople with simple and tasty food. We are inspired by the English term Gastro Pub, which is an abbreviation of Gastronomy and Public House - an open and popular cantina where culture, food and people meet.

Spiselauget is a restaurant for people who love food and wine. We work from the idea that less is more. The ingredients in the dishes should speak for themselves!

The food is rustic and unpretentious with added love and good karma. Seasonal, local produce and chefs team’s creativity defines the menu. Simple, delicious and affordable.

We work from a concept that we call the Sustainable Ecology. We strive to use organic ingredients, as far as common sense goes. In practice this means that we generally use organic produce and also reserve the right to use non-certified products if we can not find an organic alternative that can meet our quality stan-dards.

We believe this makes sense!

PERFORMING ARTS PLATFORMOver the past several years, Performing Arts Center and Danseværket worked to strengthen and develop their fields. With the merger in 2016 there has been a greater focus on the overall network that much more can support several different parameters while being innovative and facilitative for new collaborations.

On the platform, we start with the local performing arts environment and works with national and international perspectives. The platform helps to unify and stimulate the performing arts community in Aarhus and supports the development of the players’ capabilities and competencies.

Performing arts community is in this context defined as free individual players and groups, institutions, organizations and associations in areas such as dance, theater and performance, with a special focus on free agents.

You’ll find us on Brobjergskolen, Frederiks Allé 20B, 2nd floor left, 8000 Aarhus C.

THE SCHOOL OF CREATIVE WRITING is an offer to those who want to try their hand at creative writing. There are no prerequisites to join, just a desire to work with the creative process, which is text production and criticism.

The course creative writing is first and foremost focused on the student’s own production and development as a reader. Students work on writing poetry and fiction, and there are no rules, as to what genre you wish to focus on.

At the School of Creative Writing the students will be part of a constructive criticism culture, where the writer and the reader/critic are taken seriously. The students are helping to create the criticism through their reflections on a given text. They are presented to contemporary Danish literature, that can create per-spective to their texts and readings.

The School of Creative Writing also focuses on collaboration with other schools/educations, including Potemkin and the Art School.

The goal is that through inter artistic networking the students will expand their horizon of what literature is, and in which forms of representation it can be.

Students at the School of Creative Writing, have classes 25 hours per week in Aarhus Litteraturcenter (Aarhus Centre for Literature) at Godsbanen. The course is divided into two modules of 13 and 9 weeks.

LASER CUTTER/MULTI WORKSHOP

OUR 400 W KERN LASER CUTTER can cut and engrave wood, MDF, plywood, cardboard, paper, textiles, acrylic, leather, linoleum etc. and in thin steel and iron plates.

Laser cutting is very precise whether you want to cut straight lines or follow a complex, richly detailed drawing. Therefore, laser cutting is suitable for both to-pics of specific targets, such as furniture parts or architectural models, and fine patterns like jewelry, Christmas decorations, name tags, etc.

To control the laser cutter use a vector-based computer drawing. It can be created in a drawing program such as Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, Inkscape, AutoCad, etc. Ask for help at Godsbanen if you can not draw on the computer.

Materials for laser cutting can be bought either at the workshop, the wood work-shop and metal workshop, or you can bring your own material (call us to ask if it is something we can cut before you buy).

At the laser workshop there’s staff to operate the machine and to give you ad-vice and guidance on the design and materials. It is necessary to reserve time in the workshop. Call 41 85 65 67 for an appointment, or come down and see what we’re doing and get an inspirational talk.
