    RRPD Historical Preservation Committee

As many of you know we have a ton of history here. We have heard many

stories about Kincaid, Ryle, and Simpson as well as others. But what were thereal details of those stories....wouldn't we like to know!

The Round Rock POA and CPAAA are joining together to help capture some ofour history. There are many photos, memorabilia, articles and stories we needto hang on to and further, display.

We held our first meeting on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at 7 PM in the trainingroom in Bldg. B and got started on capturing some of our history.

This will be the start of gathering information on previous officers, to doing

research as well as facilitating the display of our history across the Department. If you are interested in participating in capturing some of our history, telling thestories, or helping out with any part of this project, please plan to join us.

Timesheets 101(Cant wait to get a cool certificate suitable for framing? Then get those time

    sheets to Sgt. Pierce!)

Keeping track of your volunteer time couldnt be easier.

The Police Department began using volunteer timesheets in July 1999. Tracking volunteer time showsthe City Council and the City of Round Rock how much money is donated through volunteer hours, onboth an individual and group basis. The departments volunteer hours are reported in its quarterlyreport that is presented to the City Council and also posted on the departments web page.

Any time you spend in any volunteer activity for the RRCPAAA and/or RRPD can be recorded on avolunteer time sheet. Examples of activities that can be recorded on your timesheet are:

    Attending monthly meetings

Attending board meetings Attending committee meetings

    Going on COP patrols

Working on a specific project or event, e.g. Public Safety Day, Childrens Health Festival,Warrant round ups, Blue Santa, etc.

Working in the concession stand at Dell Diamond

    Making warrant calls

Going on a ride-along with an RRPD officer

Serving on hiring or promotion boards Attending state or national CPA conventions.

If you have any questions about what you can record on your volunteer timesheet, please ask Sgt.Pierce.

Timesheets are turned in by the 7th of every month to Sgt. David Pierce. Timesheets can be submittedvia email ([email protected]); via fax at 218-3267; in person by dropping off at the PD duringbusiness hours or turned in at monthly meetings. Introducing one of Round Rocks Finest

Officer Paul HernandezWritten by Laura McManus, RRCPAAA

I have not been fortunate to ride out with Officer Hernandez, but did get him to agree to aninterview recently. Officer Paul Hernandez is the youngest of 13 children and is from Elgin,Texas. He is married with 2 children of his own. Officer Hernandez worked as an officer atElgin PD for 8 years before coming to Round Rock in 2002. He took a criminal justice classat Blinn Junior College and went on a ride-a-long as part of that class. Officer Hernandezstated he enjoyed the excitement and the fact that you would always be doing somethingdifferent so, he decided to pursue a career as a police officer. While in Elgin, he drove acruiser with a camcorder that was bungee-corded to the ceiling. He did feel uptown though,as he had a stereo and air conditioning in his vehicle.

I asked Officer Hernandez what he enjoyed doing when hewas not out catching criminals. I play baseball, work outand watch Crossing Jordanand Desperate Housewivesand my favorite cop show is Las Vegas. Not sure if thatcounts as a cop show, but I do see a pattern here..

So, being from Elgin, I had to ask him what his favorite food was. Did he say sausage???NO! He is a fan of chicken and prefers chicken cooked by his family. He said that a lot ofpeople might be surprised to learn that he is from such a big family and is spoiled by them.

Officer Hernandez added I have been thinking about the most exciting or interesting call Ihave had in my law enforcement career but really I cant think of one particular one. I havehad so many I cant really say which one I remember the most. I will, however, say a lot ofthem have drawn a big laugh or made me wonder what the heck people are thinking whenthey do what they do. I asked what the fastest speed he had driven in a police cruiser wasand he said 140+ on pursuit in Elgin. When asked what his goal was, he stated to somedayretire from RRPD and become a chief in a small town. But it was always my dream to workat RRPD so you could say, right now I am Livin the dream!

    Member Spotlight on Ray Thibodaux

I was born on the Laurel Valley Plantation near the town of

Thibodaux, Louisiana in 1939. At the age of 18, I joinedthe United States Air Force in 1957 and served for 12 years.During that time, I was station in French Morocco,Bergstrom Air Force Base, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Udorn,Thailand, and back to Texas. I was discharge at RandolphAir Force Base and moved back to Austin.

My wife, Carolyn, and I have 6 children and 16 grandchildren. After retirement

from IBM in 1996, we chose to move from Austin to Round Rock in 2000, andconsider it one of the best moves we have made. Since moving to Round Rock in2000, we have become active in local community services to include AARP,Round Rock Area Serving Center, and First Baptist Church of Round Rock. Weserve as election workers for Williamson County. I am in my second term on thePlanning and Zoning Commission, and in my leisure time, I work at theUniversity of Texas as a ticket taker for the UT baseball games. To sum it up, ourlives seem to be controlled by a calendar, and thats the way we like it!
