COLOUR GRAPHICS – THE FACTORY Location – 474/1 A.B. Road, Rajendra
Nagar, Indore
It is a printing firm which was established in 1994 and is into offset printing and packaging
SUGGESTIONS We came out with 3 suggestions
Construction of a shadeSell scrap to different vendorsPut a daily time-table on machines
SUGGESTION 1 The firm produces on average 2.5 tons
of waste paper every month
A fixed vendor purchases the waste paper every 3 months at the rate of 3.5 Rs./kg
And the vendor purchases the wet waste paper due to rain at the rate of 3 Rs./kg
Yearly calculation,1st Quarter, 7500 kgs x 3.5 Rs. = 26,250 Rs.2nd Quarter, 7500 kgs x 3 Rs. = 22,500 Rs.3rd Quarter, 7500 kgs x 3 Rs. = 22,500 Rs.4th Quarter, 7500 kgs x 3.5 Rs. = 26,250 Rs.Total = 97,500 Rs./Year
The paper can be saved from getting wet if a construction of shades is done in the 30x9 area
10 sheets of the standard 3x9 can be used for the purpose
The rate of optimum quality plastic sheets costs around 500 Rs/sheet
Adding the iron rods & labor charge, the overall cost was estimated to be 15,000 by a contractor
So if the shades are constructed costing 15,000, in 4 quarters (i.e. 2 years) the cost of construction would be recovered as,26,250 - 22,500 = 3,75015,000 / 3,750 = 4
So the yearly total of selling the waste paper rises from 97,500 to,30,000 kgs x 3.5 Rs. = 1,05,000 Rs./Year
SUGGESTION 2 Color Graphics should opt for different
vendors rather than the fixed one
We talked with 2 vendors, one of which agreed to buy the paper at the rate of 4 Rs/kg every quarter, which would make the yearly total rise to,30,000 kgs x 4 Rs. = 1,20,000 Rs./Year
SUGGESTION 3 To place a daily time table on each
machine It’ll save around 1 man-hour, thereby
increasing the efficiency
So we can save 1* 6 * 4 = 24 hours monthly per worker
{ 288 hours yearly}
There are 15 workers on different machines who don’t know which task is to be done after completing 1 batch of their task.
So out of these 15 workers, 6 of them are paid Rs. 5000 and 5 of them get Rs. 3000 and remaining 4 get Rs.2000
So for workers with Rs.5000 salary :5000 / 300 =Rs. 17 approx.Therefore, for 24 hours, a worker would get
17 * 24 = Rs.408 and for 6 workers that amount would be Rs.2448 which could be utilized properly which now goes wasted { 2448 * 12 = Rs.29376 yearly }
Similarly for the other workersFor workers of Rs.3000 salary :
3000/300 = Rs.10 per hour Therefore, 10 *24 = 240 *5 = Rs.1200 1200 *12 = Rs.14400 annually
For workers of Rs.2500 salary : 2500/300=Rs.9 approx. per hour Therefore, 9 *24 = 216 *4 = Rs.864 864*12 = Rs.10368 annually
Thus annually, Color Graphics could save Rs.54144 by just putting a time table on each machine which would be prepared by the factory ---- which will just take his 10 minutes daily
If both suggestions are applied the company can make a profit of Rs.22,500 + Rs.54,144 = Rs.76,644 every year
The construction cost of 15,000 will also be recovered in the same year
