CHAPPY CHAT

Hi All, The Easter holidays are almost here and it is a great time to catch up with family and friends. If you are looking for some fun and cheap activities to do over the holidays, why not google Kidspot and take a look at their great Easter activities and craft ideas. Here is an easy recipe for making Hot Cross Buns that you can involve all the family. Even the smallest family member can help mix the dough and the bigger ones can roll a piece of dough into their very own bun. Have a go and enjoy the most delicious Hot Cross buns you have ever tasted. Method: • Put 500 g white bread flour into a bowl and stir in 1/2 tsp salt, 3 tsp mixed spice and 50g sugar. • Rub in 50g of soft butter into the flour, with your fingertips. Stir in 200g mixed dried fruit and a sachet of yeast. • Gently heat 200ml milk till it feels warm only and then add 2 beaten eggs. Pour this into the dry ingredients. • Mix the ingredients to a moist dough, then leave to sit for 5 mins. Take the dough out of the bowl and cut it into 8 equal pieces. • Shape the dough into buns, by rolling in a circular motion on a floured surface. Place them on a baking tray, slightly apart. • Leave in a warm place until they rise half their size again. This will take around 45 mins, depending on how warm the room is. • When the buns have risen, heat the oven to 220C fan 200C/gas • CROSS: Mix 3 tbsp plain flour with 2 tbsp water to make a paste. Put into a plastic bag and cut a nick in one of the corners. Pipe crosses on top of each bun. • Bake the buns for 12-15 mins until golden. Brush all over with honey or golden syrup while still hot. ENJOY! I want to wish you all a happy and safe holiday and hope that you experience the Peace and Love of this wonderful Easter Season. Bye for now Chappy Janelle

What's happening in STEM

Tarnee Eaton - This year in our 9/10 STEM classes w e have been looking at the blender pro-gram. Blender is a program that allows you to sculp t 3D still images or animations. There is lots of work involved to reach the final rendere d animation. The 9/10 class has looked at a number of animations and still images some of these involve planets colliding and ex-ploding, three dimensional texts, and a still scene with a plate of donuts and a cup of coffee. I created a planet exploding into pieces wi th the centre as molten lava, and the background filled with stars.

Lane Bell – This is what I created in Blender. I ma de some 3D text and then buried it in a block of wood. When the animation runs the block of wood is chipped away to reveal the hidden word.

Natarlia Pithouse – I am still working towards comp leting my self chipping wood block animation. Blender is really hard to understand but I am still trying my best.

In YR 9/10 stem, unit one, 2018 we have been making short skits of fun scenes, for example; three dimensional texts being chipped out of wood, text being dissolved, planets exploding and much more. There is a lot of steps to be taken and all steps have to be taken carefully because if one of the steps is missed it doesn’t wo rk. I have been making a piece of text dissolve but I must of missed a step because it doe sn’t look quite right.

Zac Moye – The process of working with Blender is d ifficult but fun and rewarding at the same time. I am currently working on animating a ro botic dog which will take a lot of work.
