  • In response to Soderstrom Architect’s assessment of Holy Family’s campus facilities, parishioners responded that their priorities are to

address (1) the Parish Office, (2) the Parish hall, and (3) the school HVAC system and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance

issues. Replacing or repairing the school gym was fourth but requires attention for structural safety and ADA considerations.

  • When presented with three layout choices to address the priorities, parishioners overwhelmingly chose an option that situates a new Parish

Office on SE Flavel St. next to Celebration Hall, builds a new gym along SE Knapp St., extends the school building to the north to incorporate

the preschool and kindergarten classrooms, and adds a Parish Hall next to the church.

  • Phase 2

    Phase 3Phase 1a.

    Phase 1b.

    Phase 4

Holy Family’s Master Plan Task Force developed a phasing plan to serve the needs and future funding capability of our Parish:

Phase 1a is a two-story Parish Office building attached to Celebration Hall and the school, with an elevator to solve ADA issues.

Phase 1b renovates the hall for lighting and acoustics while adding glass doors along the south wall and a ramp to the lower school wing.

Phase 2 builds a new gym with a stage, Youth Ministry space, and St. Vincent de Paul pantry.

Phase 3 extends the school to the north, incorporating preschool and kindergarten, adding lab space and a possible day care center.

Phase 4 attaches a Parish Hall to the west side of the church.

  • Phase 1

This view shows the south wall of Celebration Hall with floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening on to a plaza with a possible border wall.

  • The bottom level of the new Parish Office will have an entrance out of the Celebration Hall foyer, an elevator that satisfies ADA require-

ments for both the office and the school, meeting spaces, an adoration chapel, and storage space. The building of a new Parish Office in

this location includes upgrading the school’s HVAC system and adding air conditioning throughout all classrooms.

  • This is a second-floor layout of the new Parish Office building with office space, work room, kitchen area, and secure access to the middle

school wing. A small balcony is outlined over the foyer of Celebration Hall, and the existing staircase is now internal to the offices rather

    than accessible from the foyer.

  • This view shows how the new gym and extended school building would connect. Close-ups and descriptions of these designs follow. Note

that the connection of the gym and school create a secure, enclosed courtyard for the playground.

  • This shows the position of the lower level of the gym building and is described in more detail in an upcoming slide.

  • The new gym features a retractable “pocket” stage for performances, locker rooms (pink), restrooms (blue), and a Youth Center. Both

the gym and its lobby have doors opening to the enclosed and secure playground. Locating the gym on the south side of the building

allows a more “residential” looking design for the north wall which faces our Knapp Street neighbors.

  • The sloping property where the new gym will be built lends itself to a street-level storage pantry for our Holy Family Conference

of St. Vincent de Paul. This lower level of the gym building allows for a lobby area on the Knapp Street side and small restrooms.

The southeast corner would be unexcavated but is available for as-yet unforeseen uses when the design is finalized prior to

    building.

  • The school extension provides a relocated and secure entrance, much-needed office and meeting room space, brings the preschool and

kindergarten classes into the main building, and offers opportunities for science and technology space and possibly a day care program.

  • This birds-eye view shows the location of the new Parish Office and Celebration Hall plaza (green), gymnasium building (blue), school

renovation (orange), and Parish Hall (red). The lines where the current rectory sits (lower right of picture) show lots that could be

considered for development of housing for seniors and people with disabilities.

  • A aerial drawing of the campus from the southeast. The Parish Office and plaza fronting Celebration Hall are green, the new gym building

is blue, the renovated school is orange, and the Parish Hall is red.

  • A view of the Holy Family campus from the northeast showing additional parking in front of the school renovation (in orange).
