Dear Parents and Carers

I do hope you are all well. The last couple of weeks has been extremely busy here at All

Saints. Plans and organisation are very nearly completed with regards to a possible phased

reopening on 1st June. I will of course share these with you once they have been finalised

and we have received further guidance from our government.

Whilst we continue to go through what will be a huge event in history ourselves, I know that

many of our All Saints families helped to commemorate the very special occasion of Victory

in Europe Day on Friday 8th May. It is important to remember events from the past; events

which have shaped our country. In future years I hope we will look back at the time we

overcame our current situation. The commemorative photos of ‘stay at home’

celebrations sent in by All Saints children were a joy to see. The full-length film of all our VE

Day celebration photos can be found on our school website’s home page.

Home learning has now become part of our everyday normality. I continue to be so proud

of how every household is managing to juggle a working life and the overseeing of children’s

education. The variety and quality of work being sent into teachers has been excellent.

Key Worker children

The children in school this week created some art work inspired by balloon animal artist,

Jeff Koons.

Acorn Home learning

This term, Acorns have been learning about traditional tales in their “Once upon a time topic”.

They have been learning to retell stories using actions and by creating story maps. This

week, the children have been innovating their own stories! Using the story structure of their

favourite traditional tale, they have created story maps and written parts of their new story.

The children were also tasked with drawing/creating a picture or model of their new main

character.

Toby’s new story is about a “magic

shed” with lots of amazing things

hidden inside.

Amelie’s new story has taken her into outer Space!

Can you tell from her story map which traditional

tale her creation is based upon?

Archie S’ new story is called “The Little Black Dog”

and is based on “The Little Red Hen”.

These two stories have both been modelled around “The Enormous Turnip” and both feature

a giant carrot! One is being pulled up by Teddy the rabbit and the other by several

superheroes wanting to make carrot soup!

Grace modelled her new story on “The Three

Billy Goats Gruff”, changing it to a dinosaur

story about “The 3 triceratops”.

Class 3 Home Learning

Class 3 have been very busy with their home learning! Not only have they completed their Maths and English tasks, but they are also learning lots of new skills!

Last week, Class 3 were asked to write a new fable based on ‘The Boy who cried Wolf’ which had new characters but told the same moral. I saw some lovely versions to read.

Our focus last week in maths was angles and the children had to identify right angles and ¼, ½ and ¾ turns before extending their knowledge to acute and obtuse angles.

For Art the children were asked to produce a piece of work showing perspective. Here is a super example!

In RE we have been learning about why Christians celebrate Pentecost and what the symbols of Pentecost represent. This week we are looking at pieces of art that represent Pentecost with the aim of producing our own using the appropriate symbols.

In French the children have been learning the French for animals and colours and have made some pretty strange coloured animals!

Some children have had a go at Miss Daniel’s outdoor challenge and have been bird watching!

There have also been lots of other fun things happening at home such as nature walks and cooking!

Well done Class 3 for all you hard work! Miss O’Donnel and Miss Daniel

Class 4 Home Learning

In class 4, we have been focusing on persuasive writing for the last couple of weeks. The children have designed their own spy gadgets with secret features.

Using persuasive features such as rhetorical questions and slogans, they then went on to create an advert to about their gadget.

This week, the children will be using their ideas to write a letter to Mr Incredible to persuade him to buy their gadget using persuasive openers and powerful language. There has also been lots of other exciting learning that the children have been sharing with us. Here is a small selection of some of the things the children have been up to such as cooking, making bird feeders and learning how to play chess!

Class 6 Home learning Time certainly seems to have flown by again, but as always Year 6 have continued to work hard, both in school and at home. We have continued to explore our topic of Volcanoes, researching our case study of Pompei by extracting key information from photographs to help us to understand how people lived in 79AD whilst also learning more about the geographical reasons that Vesuvius erupted. Year 6 have also used the Volcano topic to inspire our art work, including a Pop Art volcanic picture and a creation of own piece of art work where we could choose the medium we wanted, to re-create our version of the painting ‘Vesuvius in Eruption’ by Turner. In English we have explored figurative language through the use of personification and investigated its use in poetry, before applying the language techniques into our own poems. We have studied ‘The city Jungle’ by Pie Corbett, ‘Windy Nights’ by Robert Louis Stevenson and ‘The Listeners’ by Walter De La Mare. Each poem helped us to ask questions about the image the poet was creating. We have included Olivia, Harry and Theo’s poems for you to enjoy - Some fantastic figurative devices! A delight to read. We are now about to see if we can apply all we have learnt to a poem about Volcanoes. Our use of TEAMs has helped to keep us all to keep in touch and we are looking forward to hopefully being even more connected soon through visual recordings. You can see the tests in the posts section on TEAMs. We wish you all a safe and happy half term holiday - fingers crossed for more sunshine!
