After 7 weeks and the first round of assessments, Year 11 students are fully up to speed with their last year of

GCSE study. This is an exciting time for all at Trinity as we work towards our first group of students reaching this

milestone.

Students have been attending revision sessions since the start of the year as part of a range of initiatives designed

to not only ensure that they know everything they should but also that they are fully prepared to sit the exams

next summer. This past week teachers in maths, English and science have led “walking talking mocks” in their sub-

jects which are designed to coach students in exam technique.

For many students, this year will be the first of many which end in formal examinations as they progress to A lev-

els, university and beyond. Whilst for others, these exams are the stepping stone needed for college and appren-

ticeship courses. In either case we are ambitious that the results will reflect the exceptional efforts of the students

and the whole Trinity community.

Other Information

Parental communication

At the start of this school year, we changed our systems to record achievements and behaviour points. As

such, we have been unable to communicate home via e-mail when achievements or detentions have been set.

We are currently working to rectify. Some parents may have been receiving e-mails regarding achievements

such as: “Congratulations (name). You have been awarded Service. Well done.”

This message would relate to an achievement point being awarded under the TELLS headings by a teacher. We

appreciate that at present this message is not as clear as it could be and ask for your patience whilst we im-

prove this. We are working to do so as swiftly as possible.

We are also currently working to reinstate notification of detentions via e-mail but we remind you that in the

meantime, detentions will be written in the student planners.

Two Week October Half Term Term dates are now on our website for next year. Thank you for your feedback regarding the two week Oc-

tober half term. We will be trialling this for another year and will ask for feedback again in November 2018

before making a final decision for future October half terms.

Parent Tours Thank you to those who have expressed interest in having a tour of the school and coffee with Mr Paw-

son. We have had a huge response and will be arranging tours most weeks for this term and next term. Tours

Co-Curricular

Tanzania Expedition Planning Session - 15th November after school in G10

If your child is going on the Tanzania Expedition please ensure they attend this meeting as we will be plan-

ning activities and where they will be staying. If you have any questions please contact Miss Howard. Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme We are looking for parent volunteers to join our D of E team as supervisors. The Duke of Edinburgh’s

Award develops a range of skills within young people, making them more confident and well-rounded indi-

viduals. It also helps students to get into employment and universities as it is a nationally recognised qualifi-

cation and looks great on CVs and personal statements. We are looking to run the D of E ourselves instead

of using an external company, which will make the award a cheaper option for students but we need more

volunteers to be able to do this successfully. To become a supervisor, you will need to attend 3 days of

training run by KCC D of E which will include first aid training. If you already hold a current first aid qualifi-

cation you would only need to attend 2 days training. We have a range of dates for these courses so they

can work around your commitments. You can be involved as much or as little as you like. If you are inter-

ested in becoming a supervisor, please email Miss Howard [email protected].

The Treasure Hunt

Three treasure hunters lost in the mountains meet an old, wise man. He tells them

that if they pass his test he will lead them to the treasure, but if they fail he will

not help them. The men agree.

He tells the men to line up in height order. The man at the back can see the backs

of his two friends, the man in the middle can see the back of the man in front, and

the man in front cannot see anyone. The wise man shows the men five hats. Three

of the hats are black and two of the hats are white. He tells the men that if they

turn around and look behind them they fail the test.

Blindfolds are then placed over each man's eyes and a hat is placed on each man's

head. The two hats left over are hidden. The blindfolds are then removed and the

wise man says to the men that if one of them can guess what colour hat he is

wearing they will pass the test and get the treasure.

The man in the rear who can see both of his friends' hats but not his own says, "I

don't know". The middle man who can see the hat of the man in front, but not his

own says, "I don't know". The front man who cannot see ANYBODY'S hat says "I

know!"

How did he know the colour of his hat and what colour was it?
